Companies Using Stape
Stape hosts server-side Google Tag Manager containers, and our October 2026 crawl finds its scripts on 2,778 domains. What we usually see is Stape's Data Tag, a GTM template that loads from stapecdn.com and sends events to a server container: 2,373 of the 2,916 live domains in our cleaned set load it. Below is the list of companies that use Stape, with size, country and industry. It includes Zappos, Armani, Sofitel, Mövenpick, Vivienne Westwood, Thrive Market and the Alzheimer's Association.
Stape works on top of Google's tag manager: 3,012 of the 3,036 live domains we detect before cleaning also run Google Tag Manager. On our category table it ranks 9th of 17 in Tag Management with 0.02%, a share that sets a hosting service against tag managers. Treat 2,778 as a floor. Stape's Custom Loader serves Google's scripts from the site's own domain, and a site that skips the Data Tag leaves us nothing to detect. Stape itself says it has more than 200,000 clients.

Stape Usage Statistics
Three points: 1,944 domains in August 2026, 2,683 in September and 2,778 in October. Don't read that as a growth spurt. Our crawl reached more of the web over those months, the set of domains we crawl turns over every month as dead sites drop out and new ones are added, and our detection of Stape's scripts widened over the same period. The charts below use the 2,916 live domains left on 11 October after removing 120 gambling and for-sale pages. Since we began tracking Stape on 4 August 2026, 670 domains dropped it on at least one hostname; 122 of 671 we rechecked still load it on another.

Which Countries Use Stape the Most?
Which countries use Stape the most? The United States, with 471 matched companies, then the Netherlands (114), Germany (101), Denmark (100) and the United Kingdom (93). Add up the European countries in our top 15 and they hold 703 companies, against 471 American ones. Denmark is the outlier: its 100 companies are about a fifth of the US figure. Brazil (81) is the largest market outside Europe and North America. These counts cover the 1,628 Stape domains we matched to a company.
Share of the 1,628 Stape domains we matched to a company record — 58.6% of the 2,778 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Stape Market Share Among Tag Management
What is Stape's market share? 0.02% of Tag Management, 9th of the 17 tools we track there, on 2,778 domains at TechnologyChecker.io. Google Tag Manager has 97.73% with 11,422,545 domains, about 4,100 times Stape's count. The comparison is lopsided by design. Stape hosts the server side of Google Tag Manager, and 3,012 domains run both today. Its real rivals are other server-side GTM hosts, which our category table doesn't list.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Stape Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Stape? Mostly small ones. 42.53% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, 30.53% have 11 to 50 and 15.65% have 51 to 200, so 73.06% have 50 staff or fewer. Only 40 have more than 1,000, among them Armani, Zappos and Accor's Sofitel and Mövenpick brands. That fits a service whose Pro plan starts at $17 a month billed annually.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
How old are companies that use Stape? The largest group was founded in the 2010s (38.62%), and the 2020s add 19.96%, so 58.58% were founded in 2010 or later. The 2000s hold 14.54%. 7.02% predate 1960, a tail that includes the Danish Red Cross (1876), Prenatal (1947), Weber (1952) and laFeltrinelli (1957).
What Industries Use Stape the Most?
Retail leads at 8.88%, then Advertising Services (3.97%), LinkedIn's label for agencies, Motor Vehicle Manufacturing (3.23%) and Software Development (3.16%), based on our enriched company data. No other industry passes 3.2%. The agency row fits how Stape is sold: agencies set up server-side tracking for clients, and Stape's about page lists 500 partners.
Fashion brands using Stape include Armani, Vivienne Westwood, Ted Baker, TravisMathew and Peek & Cloppenburg. Hotel groups on Stape include Accor's Sofitel and Mövenpick brands and the French holiday-village operator Belambra. Universities and schools using Stape are a cluster of their own: University of the People, Montgomery County Community College, Alliant International University and the French IT school EPSI, all checked in October 2026.
Stape Alternatives & Competitors
Who are Stape's competitors? The tag managers in this table are mostly the wrong comparison. Stape hosts the server container for Google Tag Manager, which runs on 11,422,545 domains, and 3,012 domains run Stape and Google Tag Manager together today. Adobe Experience Platform Launch (70,918 domains) shares 84 domains with Stape and Matomo Tag Manager (28,547) 4. Stape's actual rivals are other ways to run server-side GTM: Google's own cloud, or hosts such as Addingwell, TAGGRS and Tracklution. One learndirect page we checked loads a Stape script beside a TAGGRS endpoint.

Expert Analysis: Stape Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Stape sits awkwardly in Tag Management. It rents out the server half of Google's tag manager rather than competing with it. So before reading anything into its 0.02% share, I wanted to know what our crawl sees on a Stape site. As of our October 2026 crawl the answer is 2,778 domains, 1,628 of them matched to a company, against Stape's own claim of more than 200,000 clients. Most of this analysis is about why those two numbers can both be true.
What we detect
We count a domain when a page loads a script from Stape's addresses: stapecdn.com, cdn.stape.io or its gateway hosts. On the 2,916 domains in our cleaned set, 2,373 load the Data Tag, the open-source GTM template Stape publishes on GitHub, which pulls stapecdn.com/dtag/v9.js and posts events to a server container. 224 load the pixel of Stape's Shopify app, and 163 show only one of Stape's hosted Meta gateways. What we can't see is a site that uses Stape's Custom Loader alone, which serves Google's scripts from the site's own domain. So 2,778 is a floor.
Sales signal: a Stape domain is a site whose marketers already pay for measurement infrastructure. These are buyers who understand data loss, not beginners.
First-party by design
I opened 30 random Stape domains to see where the data goes. 26 showed a Stape script. 18 sent their events to a subdomain of their own, such as s.farpay.io or sst.ferex-solidbase.com. Three used a Stape-hosted address, and five used another company's domain: two shops share one consultant's servers, two use a related company's domain, and one sends to an unrelated domain. At scale, only 231 of the 2,747 domains with a readable Stape request called a stape.io or stape.net container address.
"Most Stape customers we checked hide Stape behind a subdomain of their own. That's the product working as designed, and it's why any count of Stape sites, ours included, is a floor." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: the subdomain name (sst., sgtm., data.) is the tell. If you sell into this group, look for those hostnames on a prospect's site as well as for Stape's own addresses.
Who buys it
42.53% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 73.06% have 50 or fewer; only 40 have more than 1,000. They're young, too: 58.58% were founded in 2010 or later. Retail leads the industries at 8.88%, and Advertising Services, LinkedIn's label for agencies, is second at 3.97%. That matches Stape's own description of an agency channel, with 500 partners on its about page. The large names are mostly fashion and hospitality brands: Armani, Vivienne Westwood, Zappos and Accor's Sofitel and Mövenpick sites.
Sales signal: agencies are the multiplier. One agency that standardises on server-side tracking brings a dozen client sites, so partner programmes will outsell direct prospecting here.
A European base
The United States has 471 matched companies, but the European countries in our top 15 hold 703. The Netherlands (114), Germany (101) and Denmark (100) all rank above the United Kingdom (93). Denmark's figure is about a fifth of the US one. Consent tools fit the same picture: Cookiebot is on 13.55% of Stape domains and Cookie Control on 13.51%. That fits a product sold on recovering data that browsers and consent banners lose.
Sales signal: a European Stape site has already paid to recover lost conversions. Consent and data-protection vendors should treat it as a warm account.
Fleets and leftovers
Before charting anything we removed 120 domains whose titles mark them as gambling or for-sale pages, 79 of them one Indonesian lottery network. After that, 19 obvious slot or betting clones remain, 0.65% of the cleaned set, plus regulated casinos and odds sites that are real businesses. One account stands out: about 90 medical-assistant school sites share one Stape gateway account, which points to a single operator, about 3% of the count.
Sales signal: dedupe by gateway account and by company before counting prospects. Most Stape rows are one company with one site, but networks exist.
Leaving Stape
Since we began tracking Stape on 4 August 2026, 670 domains dropped it on at least one hostname. When we rechecked, 122 of 671 still loaded it on another hostname. Of the 549 that dropped it everywhere, 422 still run Google Tag Manager, so they left Stape's script, not Google's tag manager. Some may have moved their server container to a domain we can't see, others to a different host, and some may have dropped server-side tracking altogether. Our data can't yet tell those apart.
"When a site stops loading Stape, three times in four it keeps Google Tag Manager. The question is whether its server-side tracking moved somewhere else or stopped." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: for a competing sGTM host, the 549 domains that dropped Stape while keeping GTM are the warmest list on this page. Check their subdomains first.
The stack around it
Google Analytics runs on 93.11% of the 2,916 clean live domains, DoubleClick Floodlight on 34.84% and Microsoft Advertising on 25.58%. Pinterest Ads (9.88%), Twitter Ads (5.59%) and Reddit Ads (5.25%) follow. WordPress is on 29.66%, Shopify on 16.74% and Webflow on 4.63%. That's an ad-spend stack: server-side tracking pays for itself through better conversion data for paid media.
Sales signal: pitch on media efficiency. These sites run three or more ad platforms and already care about conversion data quality.
What it costs
Stape's pricing page, checked 14 October 2026, lists a Free plan for up to 10,000 requests a month, Pro at $17 a month billed annually for 500,000 requests, Business at $83 for 5 million and Enterprise at $167 for 20 million; billed monthly, those plans cost $20, $100 and $200. Stape says it was founded in June 2021, passed 100,000 customers in July 2024 and has no outside investors.
Sales signal: request-based pricing means traffic growth turns into plan upgrades. Fast-growing shops on Pro are the accounts most likely to reconsider their host.
Key takeaways
1. 2,778 domains, a floor: sites that hide Stape behind their own domain are invisible.
2. The Data Tag is the signal on 2,373 of 2,916 cleaned domains.
3. Small, young and European-leaning: 73.06% have 50 or fewer staff, and Europe holds 703 matched companies to the US's 471.
4. 3,012 domains run Stape with Google Tag Manager; it's a layer, not a replacement.
5. Of 549 domains that dropped Stape everywhere, 422 kept Google Tag Manager.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Stape?
Mostly small and mid-sized businesses that buy online ads, plus some well-known brands. Our October 2026 crawl finds Stape's scripts on 2,778 domains, and 73.06% of matched companies have 50 or fewer staff. Stape users we checked include Zappos, Armani, Sofitel, Mövenpick, Vivienne Westwood, Thrive Market and the Alzheimer's Association. Agencies, labelled Advertising Services, are 3.97% of matched companies.
How many customers does Stape have?
Stape's about page says it has more than 200,000 clients and 65,000 deployed containers. Our October 2026 crawl sees its scripts on 2,778 domains, 1,628 matched to a company. Part of the gap is visibility: a site that serves Google's tags through its own domain with Stape's Custom Loader, and skips the Data Tag, leaves no Stape address for us to detect.
What is Stape's market share?
0.02% of Tag Management, 9th of the 17 tools we track, on 2,778 domains. The figure isn't like-for-like. Stape hosts the server side of Google Tag Manager rather than replacing it, and 3,012 of the 3,036 domains we detect before cleaning run Google Tag Manager too. We don't yet track the other server-side GTM hosts as a group, so there's no fair share to quote.
What are the best alternatives to Stape?
Running server-side Google Tag Manager on Google's own cloud is the main one, if you're willing to set up and maintain the server yourself. Hosted rivals that come up in searches for Stape alternatives include Addingwell, TAGGRS and Tracklution. In our crawl, Stape sites rarely run another tag manager besides Google's: 84 share a domain with Adobe's and 4 with Matomo's.
Which countries use Stape the most?
The United States, with 471 matched companies, then the Netherlands (114), Germany (101), Denmark (100), the United Kingdom (93) and Brazil (81). Taken together, the European countries in our top 15 hold 703 companies, well above the US figure. These counts cover the 1,628 Stape domains we matched to a company in our October 2026 crawl.
What size companies use Stape?
Mostly small ones. 42.53% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 30.53% have 11 to 50, so 73.06% have 50 or fewer staff. Only 40 have more than 1,000, including Armani, Zappos, Sofitel and Mövenpick. Stape's Free plan covers 10,000 requests a month, and Pro starts at $17 a month billed annually.
How old are companies that use Stape?
Among the Stape domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (38.62%), followed by the 2020s (19.96%). That matched subset is drawn from 1,628 companies and is not representative of all 2,778 detected domains. This suggests Stape is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for Stape?
The ideal Stape customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (42.53%), then 11-50, Location: US, then Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Industry: Retail, agencies, software, fitness, Founded: 2010s (38.62%); 58.58% since 2010, Stack: GA4 with Floodlight and Microsoft Ads — based on our analysis of 1,628 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
What does Stape do?
Stape hosts server-side Google Tag Manager containers and the scripts around them. A site's web container sends events to a server container on Stape, often reached through the site's own subdomain, which forwards them to analytics and ad platforms. Stape also runs hosted gateways for Meta's, TikTok's and Snapchat's conversion APIs, and a Shopify app.
How much does Stape cost?
Stape's pricing page lists a Free plan for up to 10,000 requests a month, Pro at $17 a month billed annually ($20 monthly) for 500,000 requests, Business at $83 ($100) for 5 million and Enterprise at $167 ($200) for 20 million. Custom plans with unlimited requests are quoted, and every paid plan adds features to the one below. Checked 14 October 2026.
Is sGTM free?
The server container comes with Google Tag Manager, but it has to run on a server that someone pays for. On Stape that can start at nothing: its Free plan includes up to 10,000 requests a month with the Custom Loader and a global CDN, per its pricing page on 14 October 2026. How does Stape tracking work?
On the sites we checked, in two steps. Google Tag Manager loads Stape's Data Tag from stapecdn.com, and the tag sends each event to a server container. In a sample of 26 sites running Stape, 18 sent that data to a subdomain of their own, three to a Stape-hosted address and five to another company's domain, such as an agency's or a parent company's server.
Does Stape work with Shopify?
Yes. Stape's Shopify app, Stape Conversion Tracking, is free to install and had a 4.4 rating from 42 reviews when we checked on 14 October 2026; it installs GTM and generates e-commerce events. In our crawl, 224 Stape domains load the app's pixel, and Shopify runs on 16.74% of Stape domains. Ted Baker and SeneGence load Stape through it.
Why can't I see Stape on a website that uses it?
Because Stape is built to look first-party. Its Custom Loader, a free power-up, serves Google's tag scripts from the site's own domain, and the server container usually sits on a subdomain. We count a site only when it loads a script from Stape's own addresses, mostly the Data Tag, so sites using only the loader are missing. Treat our 2,778 domains as a floor.
Is Stape GDPR compliant?
Stape's about page says it obtained ISO, SOC 2, HIPAA and GDPR compliance in January 2024 and has offered EU hosting for server GTM since August 2022. Compliance still depends on setup: its pricing page lists an Anonymizer that deletes or anonymises GA4 data before it reaches the server container. Cookiebot runs on 13.55% of Stape domains in our crawl.
