Our live crawl finds VWO's SmartCode on 47,565 domains, and 21,958 of them match a company record. That count is domains rather than customers, and the companies using VWO behind it include HCLTech, Upwork and Schneider Electric. Several large brands that use VWO run it on a single property, such as careers.homedepot.com and partner.expediagroup.com. This list of companies using VWO breaks the base down by size, country, industry and tech stack.

VWO holds an 8.3% share of the A/B Testing & Experimentation category. Among tools that actually run experiments it sits second by footprint, 2,117 domains ahead of Optimizely (45,448). Most websites using VWO belong to small teams: 37.23% of matched companies employ ten people or fewer. The top companies using VWO include ICICI Bank, Pizza Hut and Emerson, and other companies using VWO span banking, retail and healthcare. Data analysed September 23, 2026.

VWO Usage Statistics

Our live crawl detected VWO on 47,565 active domains in September 2026, up from 37,770 in June. Read the line as a trend rather than a same-domain comparison: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time.

The early rise was mostly coverage and the recent one mostly adoption. Of the 17,004 domains that first showed VWO in May, 16,600 were new to our crawl within three days. By September only 351 of 2,245 additions were domains new to us, so recent SmartCode sightings are tags appearing on sites we already watch.

List of Companies Using VWO

Our list of companies using VWO on TechnologyChecker.io is sorted by size, so the largest brands that use VWO come first: HCLTech, Genpact, Schneider Electric, Emerson and ICICI Bank among them. Check the detection column before you read anything into a logo, because plenty of websites using VWO are careers pages, partner portals and campaign microsites rather than the flagship property. The script URL adds one more thing. Of the 2,882 domains that expose an account id we count 1,825 distinct accounts, about 1.58 domains each, so these distributions are close to buyer-shaped.

Which Countries Use VWO the Most?

Which countries use VWO the most? The United States leads with 9,763 of the 21,169 matched companies (46.12%), followed by the United Kingdom (2,324, 10.98%) and the Netherlands (1,700, 8.03%). The Dutch share is the odd one out, sitting above Canada (3.69%), Australia (3.49%) and Germany (2.82%). It isn't one hosting fleet dressed up as a market: the 658 Dutch domains we observed directly load the SmartCode from VWO's own script host with no shared platform underneath, based on our enriched company data.

VWO Market Share Among A/B Testing & Experimentation

What is VWO's market share? VWO holds 8.3% of the A/B Testing & Experimentation category and ranks #3 of 33 tracked technologies, based on our crawl of roughly 29.9 million live domains at TechnologyChecker.io. Among the tools that actually run experiments the order is Statsig (62,557 domains), then VWO at 47,565, then Optimizely at 45,448. That puts VWO 2,117 domains ahead of Optimizely, the better-known brand of the two, which is the single most surprising number on this page.

VWO Customers by Company Size & Age

Is VWO only for small businesses? No, but small teams are the bulk of it. 37.23% of matched VWO companies employ ten people or fewer and another 28.52% have 11 to 50, so 83.36% of the 20,846 companies with a size on record sit at 200 staff or under. The enterprise slice is thin and real at the same time: 1,276 companies (6.12%) employ more than 1,000, a group that includes Schneider Electric, IQVIA and Genpact, all live detections in our crawl.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

VWO's customer base is one of the youngest we profile. The 2010s are the largest founding decade at 37.91% of the 13,225 companies with a founding year on record in our data, with the 2000s at 20.38% and the 2020s at 10.52%. Only 7.85% were founded before 1960. Experimentation is a digital-native purchase, and this chart says so more plainly than any other on the page.

What Industries Use VWO the Most?

Software Development is the largest industry at 7.08% of the 19,816 companies with an industry on record, with Retail close behind at 6.42% and Financial Services at 4.28%. No industry reaches 8%, so VWO is horizontal by any reasonable test. One grouping is worth pulling out: Financial Services and Insurance together reach 7.25%, which is regulated, high-value traffic where a single conversion point pays for the tool, based on our enriched company data at TechnologyChecker.io.

Software companies using VWO form its largest vertical at 7.08%, with Upwork running the SmartCode on upwork.com and SAS on video.sas.com. Retail brands using VWO account for 6.42% and include Home Depot on careers.homedepot.com, Circle K on ca.circlek.com and Magazine Luiza on meuespaco.magazineluiza.com.br. Insurance companies on VWO make up 2.97%, among them Farmers Insurance and HDFC Life on onlineinsurance.hdfclife.com, based on our enriched company data.

VWO Alternatives & Competitors

VWO's category table mixes live rivals with one product that no longer exists. Statsig (62,557 domains) is the largest experimentation tool we detect, and Optimizely (45,448) is the closest by footprint, 2,117 domains behind VWO. Google Optimize (21,477) is the exception: Google discontinued it on 30 September 2023, so those detections are abandoned tags nobody has cleaned up rather than a competing install base. Convert (14,281) and Intelligems (7,431) close out the table, based on our market share data across roughly 29.9 million crawled domains.

Tech Stack of VWO-Powered Websites

VWO is a container deployment almost everywhere. Google Tag Manager runs on 93.65% of the 46,986 VWO domains live in our crawl, and Google Analytics on 83.54%, which is what you'd expect from a script whose job is to fire before the page paints and report against an analytics goal.

The consent layer matters more than it looks. OneTrust (14.71%), Cookie Control (8.62%), Cookiebot (8.48%) and CookieYes (4.53%) put roughly a third of the base behind a managed consent tool, and a test script that only fires after consent samples a different visitor population than one firing on page load. WordPress carries 29.02% of the base, Drupal 4.16% and Webflow 3.5%.

VWO Customer Reviews with Pros and Cons

What do G2 reviewers say about VWO? The praise is about getting started: ease of use (180 mentions), responsive support (146), an intuitive interface (138) and easy setup (111). The complaints are about hitting the ceiling: limited features (50), missing features (47), reporting and integration limits (45), then a steep learning curve and slow performance at 34 each. Put that next to our size table, where only 6.12% of matched companies employ more than 1,000 people, and the shape fits. VWO wins the first experiment and gets questioned around the hundredth.

Expert Analysis: VWO Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Sophie Clarke
Sophie ClarkeProduct Marketing Manager, TechnologyChecker

Seven years reading technology adoption data for go-to-market teams, and VWO is one of the clearer install bases I've seen. As of our September 2026 crawl we detect its SmartCode on 47,565 domains and match 21,958 of them to a company record.

Growth trajectory

The chart runs from 37,770 domains in June 2026 to 47,565 in September. That is not a 26% adoption surge. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones coming in, and our detection signals widen over time.

What changed underneath is the useful part. Of the 17,004 domains that first showed VWO in May, 16,600 were new to our crawl within three days. By September only 351 of 2,245 new sightings were domains new to us, so recent growth is the SmartCode landing on sites we already watch.

Sales Signal: This market is expanding on adoption, not on our index catching up. Late-2026 additions just bought experimentation software, so they have a budget line, an owner and no incumbent habits. Good timing for session replay and CRO services.

"Every experimentation vendor claims growth. The number I trust is what share of new detections are domains we already knew about, and for VWO that went from 2.4% in May to 84.4% in September." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io

Customer profile

37.23% of matched VWO companies have ten employees or fewer and 83.36% sit at 200 or under. The age data agrees: 37.91% founded in the 2010s, only 7.85% before 1960. Experimentation is bought by companies that grew up measuring things.

The enterprise tail is thin at 6.12% over 1,000 staff, but it isn't decorative. HCLTech, Genpact, Schneider Electric and ICICI Bank all carry live SmartCode. Read the detection host before the logo, though. Home Depot's sits on careers.homedepot.com, Expedia's on partner.expediagroup.com.

The script URL settles a question that usually needs hedging. VWO's SmartCode carries an account id, and across the 2,882 domains exposing one we count 1,825 distinct accounts, about 1.58 domains each. These distributions are close to buyer-shaped.

Sales Signal: Two plays. In the 11-to-200 band VWO is the primary testing tool and the buyer is a growth lead you can reach directly. For enterprise detections on a single subdomain, pitch consolidation: one department pays for testing, the rest of the estate has none.

Industry and geographic concentration

No industry clears 8%. Software Development leads at 7.08%, Retail follows at 6.42%, and Financial Services (4.28%) plus Insurance (2.97%) make 7.25% of regulated, high-value traffic. VWO is horizontal, as any tool that tests conversion pages would be.

Geography is more interesting. The US takes 46.12% and the UK 10.98%, but the Netherlands sits third at 8.03%, well clear of Canada (3.69%) and Australia (3.49%) on a far smaller domestic market. It isn't one hosting fleet either: the 658 Dutch domains we observed load the SmartCode from VWO's own script host, no shared platform underneath.

Sales Signal: The Dutch cluster is 1,700 real companies and the market least likely to be on your prospect list already. Brazil (2.98%) is the other one worth working: Itau Unibanco, Natura, Claro and Magazine Luiza all run VWO.

Why there is no migration table

Most profiles here carry a migration section. VWO's doesn't. We took 8,824 domains that dropped VWO and asked what they run now: Statsig appears on 1.43% of leavers against 1.02% of stayers, a 1.4x lift, and Convert on 1.48% against 1.1%, so 1.35x. Our publication gate is 2x.

Two candidates ran the wrong way. Optimizely is on 0.66% of leavers and 3.32% of stayers, Google Optimize 0.63% against 2.29%. Both are more common among companies that kept VWO, the signature of tools that stack rather than replace. We also left out 108 domains where Google Optimize disappeared, since Google shut it down on 30 September 2023.

Sales Signal: Don't buy a leaver list expecting a migration. The 10,037 domains that dropped VWO since we began tracking in March 2026 are mostly programmes that went quiet, and 50.8% of those rows were seen only once. We tested consent gating as the explanation and it failed: consent managers are less common among leavers (24.95%) than stayers (35.36%). Treat it as dormant CRO budget.

"The absence of a migration table is the finding. Experimentation tools don't replace each other, they pile up and then go quiet together. A churned VWO domain is a company that stopped testing." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io

Technology ecosystem

Google Tag Manager is on 93.65% of the 46,986 live VWO domains, with Google Analytics at 83.54%. The pairing is structural: the SmartCode must fire before the page renders, and a container is how a marketing team ships that without a release cycle.

The consent layer is the number sales teams skip. OneTrust (14.71%), Cookie Control (8.62%), Cookiebot (8.48%) and CookieYes (4.53%) put roughly a third of the base behind a managed consent tool, a sampling problem inside the customer's own results. WordPress carries 29.02%, and Adobe's stack stays thin.

Sales Signal: The 5.87% on an Adobe tag manager are the enterprise slice, with budget and a competing vendor already in place. The consent overlap is the sharper wedge: helping a testing team reason about consented versus unconsented traffic is a named problem with a third of this base behind it.

G2 review signals

The pro list and the con list describe two stages of one relationship. Pros: ease of use (180 mentions), responsive support (146), intuitive interface (138), easy setup (111), analytics integration (92). Cons: limited features (50), missing features (47), reporting and integration limits (45), learning curve (34), slow performance (34).

That is 667 positive mentions against 210 negative, roughly 3:1, and every pro is about starting while every con is about scaling. Our data explains where the split lands. Only 6.12% of matched companies employ more than 1,000 people, so most reviewers never reach the reporting limits. The 1,276 large companies do.

Sales Signal: Selling against VWO, the opening is the ceiling, not the entry. Target the 51-200 and 201-1,000 bands, where a team has outgrown the visual editor but still ships through a tag manager.

Key takeaways

1. VWO is second by footprint among live experimentation platforms, at 47,565 domains against Statsig's 62,557 and Optimizely's 45,448.

2. Growth turned real in the second half of 2026. 97.6% of May's additions were domains new to our crawl; by September, 15.6%.

3. The base is digital-native and small. 37.23% under ten staff, 37.91% founded in the 2010s, 7.85% before 1960.

4. There is no migration corridor. Nothing cleared our 2x gate against 8,824 leavers.

5. The stack is a Google stack. 93.65% Google Tag Manager, 83.54% Google Analytics, a third behind a managed consent tool.

6. The vulnerability is the ceiling. G2 pros are about setup, cons about limits, and the 6.12% above 1,000 staff is where limits bite.

Sales applications

Outreach template. "I noticed [Company] runs VWO on [detection host]. Teams your size, and 46% of VWO's base sits between 11 and 200 staff, hit the same reporting wall past their first dozen tests. Worth 15 minutes?" Name the actual subdomain; it reaches whoever owns it.

Targeting strategy. Filter our VWO list on TechnologyChecker.io for 51 to 1,000 employees plus Google Tag Manager, then exclude anyone on an Adobe tag manager. What's left has a testing habit, no enterprise vendor, and enough traffic for the reporting complaints to be real.

Competitive angle. Skip the churn list. Those 10,037 dropped domains are dormant programmes, not buyers in market. Target the Dutch cluster instead.

It all comes from one place: 47,565 VWO domains and 21,958 enriched companies in our September 2026 crawl, filterable on TechnologyChecker.io.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses VWO?

We detect VWO on 47,565 domains, including HCLTech, Air Force, Icici Bank Ltd. A detection means the technology is present on that domain, which for large organisations is often a single storefront or subdomain rather than a company-wide deployment. Among domains we matched to a company with a resolved industry, the most common is Software Development (7.08%).

How many customers does VWO have?

We detect 47,565 domains running VWO across our monthly crawl of live business domains. Company data could be matched for 21,958 of them (46.2%), and every company-size, industry and country breakdown on this page describes that matched subset rather than the full detected base. A further 10,037 domains carried a VWO detection previously and no longer do.

What is VWO's market share?

VWO holds 8.3% of the A/B Testing & Experimentation category, ranking #3. This is a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category — not a share of all websites, and not a share of spending — so it is not directly comparable to figures published on other denominators.

What are the best alternatives to VWO?

The top alternatives to VWO include Statsig (10.91% market share), Optimizely (7.93% market share), Google Optimize (3.75% market share), Convert (2.49% market share) — measured as a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category.

Which countries use VWO the most?

United States leads with 9,763 matched VWO domains, followed by United Kingdom (2,324), Netherlands (1,700), Canada (781), Australia (739). These are counts within the 21,958 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.

What size companies use VWO?

The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 37.23% of the VWO domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 21,958 matched companies, not of all 47,565 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (28.52%) and 51-200 employees (17.61%).

How old are companies that use VWO?

Among the VWO domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (37.91%), followed by the 2000s (20.38%). That matched subset is drawn from 21,958 companies and is not representative of all 47,565 detected domains. This suggests VWO is most popular among relatively young companies.

What is the ideal customer profile for VWO?

The ideal VWO customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, Location: US, UK, or Netherlands, Founded: 2010-2019, Industry: Software, retail, financial services, Stack: Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics — based on our analysis of 21,958 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What is VWO used for?

VWO is an experimentation platform. Teams use it to run A/B and multivariate tests, split URL tests, and personalisation rules on live web pages, then measure which variant converts better. The product also bundles heatmaps, session recordings and on-site surveys. Our crawl at TechnologyChecker.io finds its SmartCode on 47,565 domains, most of them deployed through a tag manager.

How does VWO work?

You add a small JavaScript snippet, the SmartCode, to every page you want to test. It loads from VWO's own script host before the page paints, applies whichever variant a visitor is assigned, and reports the outcome back. That pre-render requirement is why 93.65% of VWO domains in our data also run Google Tag Manager.

What are the benefits of using VWO?

The benefits reviewers actually name are speed to first test and support quality. On G2, ease of use draws 180 mentions, responsive support 146, an intuitive interface 138 and easy setup 111. In practice a marketing team can ship a test without a developer. The trade-off arrives later, in reporting and integration limits.

Are VWO and Wingify the same?

Not quite. Wingify is the company; VWO is the product it builds and sells. The G2 listing our review data comes from is filed under wingify-vwo-testing, which is VWO Testing, one part of the wider VWO platform. If you see both names on a contract or an invoice, they refer to the same vendor.

How much does VWO cost?

VWO publishes a free Starter tier and paid plans that scale with tracked traffic rather than seats. We don't quote figures here, because the numbers circulating in search results come from third parties and go stale quickly. Check vwo.com for current pricing. What our data can tell you is scale: 47,565 domains run the SmartCode today.

Is VWO better than Google Optimize?

The comparison no longer holds. Google discontinued Optimize and Optimize 360 on 30 September 2023, so it isn't a live alternative to anything. We still detect Optimize tags on 21,477 domains, but those are leftovers nobody has removed rather than running installs. VWO is in active development, and our crawl shows its footprint growing through 2026.

Does VWO or Optimizely have more websites?

VWO, by a small margin. Our September 2026 crawl detects VWO on 47,565 domains and Optimizely on 45,448, so VWO carries 2,117 more. Optimizely is the better-known brand and sells a broader digital experience suite, which is why the footprint gap surprises people. On raw domain count the two are close rivals.

Who are Optimizely's main competitors?

By detected footprint in our A/B testing category at TechnologyChecker.io, Optimizely's closest rivals are VWO (47,565 domains) and Statsig (62,557). Convert (14,281) and Intelligems (7,431) sit further back, and Intelligems skews heavily toward ecommerce price testing. Google Optimize still shows 21,477 domains, but Google shut it down in September 2023.

How can you tell if a site runs VWO?

Open the page source or the network tab and look for a script loading from dev.visualwebsiteoptimizer.com. You can also check the browser console for the VWO, __vwo or _vwo_code globals. The script URL carries an account id in its query string, which is how we count distinct VWO accounts rather than only domains.

Why do so many VWO sites run Google Tag Manager?

Because the SmartCode has to execute before the page renders, or visitors see the original content flash before the variant loads. A tag manager lets a marketing team deploy that snippet site-wide without waiting on a release. In our data 93.65% of live VWO domains also run Google Tag Manager, the highest overlap on this page.

Do VWO customers also run a consent tool?

About a third do. OneTrust appears on 14.71% of VWO domains, Cookie Control on 8.62%, Cookiebot on 8.48% and CookieYes on 4.53%. That matters more than it sounds. An experimentation script that only fires once consent is granted samples a different visitor population than one firing on page load, which can skew a test result.

Do companies that drop VWO move to a competitor?

Usually not. We checked 8,824 domains that dropped VWO against what they run now, and no rival cleared our 2x publication gate. Statsig reached 1.4x and Convert 1.35x. Optimizely and Google Optimize were actually more common among the domains that kept VWO. A dropped SmartCode normally means the testing programme stopped.

Why is the Netherlands so high in VWO's country data?

The Netherlands ranks third with 1,700 companies, 8.03% of the matched base, ahead of both Canada and Australia. We checked whether one hosting platform was inflating the number, and it isn't: the 658 Dutch domains we observed directly load the SmartCode from VWO's own script host with no shared platform underneath. It's a real cluster.
