Companies Using Shift Digital Tag Manager
Shift Digital Tag Manager is the tracking container that Shift Digital, a Birmingham, Michigan company, runs for automakers' dealer programs, and our October 2026 crawl finds it on 9,468 domains. Nearly all are car and powersports dealer websites. The script address names the program rather than the dealer: of the 6,284 domains where we could read it, 1,521 load General Motors' US container and 902 Stellantis's. So this list of companies that use Shift Digital Tag Manager is a list of dealers enrolled in automaker programs, such as Longo Toyota, Capitol Chevrolet, Rallye BMW and Orlando Harley-Davidson, plus brand sites run by Mitsubishi and Mazda.
The buyer is usually the automaker; the dealer's site is where the tag runs. Dealer.com's support site has a Shift Digital enrollment and cancellation form that asks for a dealer code and whether to add or remove tags. On our category table Shift Digital ranks 7th of 17 in Tag Management with 0.08%, but it doesn't compete with Google Tag Manager for the same job: 9,555 domains run both today.

Shift Digital Tag Manager Usage Statistics
Three points: 5,792 domains in August 2026, 8,749 in September and 9,468 in October. That isn't a wave of new dealers. Our crawl reached more of the web over those months, the set of domains we crawl turns over every month as dead sites drop out and new ones arrive, and our detection widened in August. Since we began tracking it on 4 August 2026, 2,198 domains dropped the tag on at least one hostname, but 1,011 of 2,199 we rechecked (45.98%) still load it on another hostname.

Which Countries Use Shift Digital Tag Manager the Most?
Which countries use Shift Digital Tag Manager the most? Two: the United States, with 5,787 matched companies, and Canada, with 1,384, together 7,171 of the 7,203 we place in a country. No other country reaches 20. The container names say the same thing: separate Canadian programs for GM, Stellantis, Toyota, Kia, Mazda, Volkswagen and Nissan sit beside the US ones. These counts cover the 7,235 domains we matched to a company.
Share of the 7,235 Shift Digital Tag Manager domains we matched to a company record — 76.4% of the 9,468 we detect. Top 12 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Shift Digital Tag Manager Market Share Among Tag Management
What is Shift Digital Tag Manager's market share? 0.08% of Tag Management, 7th of the 17 tag managers we track, on 9,468 domains at TechnologyChecker.io. Google Tag Manager leads with 97.73% and 11,422,545 domains. The comparison isn't like-for-like: Shift Digital's container is a program tag that sits beside a dealer's own tag manager, and 9,555 domains run both today. Inside the car-dealer market it's a common sight; outside it, we barely see it.

Shift Digital Tag Manager Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Shift Digital Tag Manager? Dealerships: 42.61% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, 36.51% have 11 to 50 and 18.49% have 51 to 200, so 97.61% have 200 staff or fewer. These are dealership headcounts as LinkedIn lists them. Only 26 matched companies have more than 1,000 employees, including automakers' own brand sites.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
How old are companies that use Shift Digital Tag Manager? Older than most tech pages show. The 2010s are the largest decade at 19.23%, but 48.47% were founded before 1990, and 14.76% before 1960. Only 4.48% date from the 2020s. That's the profile of franchised dealerships, many of them family businesses that have held a brand for decades.
What Industries Use Shift Digital Tag Manager the Most?
Retail leads at 44.49%, then Motor Vehicle Manufacturing (29.8%), Automotive (9.5%) and Retail Motor Vehicles (5.27%), based on our enriched company data. Those four labels together cover 89.06% of matched companies, and they describe the same business: LinkedIn files dealerships under several headings, and dealers matched to an automaker's page land in Motor Vehicle Manufacturing. Individual and Family Services (4.55%) is the one label we can't tie to dealers.
Chevrolet dealers using Shift Digital Tag Manager include Capitol Chevrolet in Austin, Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix, Van Chevrolet in Scottsdale and Findlay Chevrolet in Las Vegas. Toyota dealers on Shift Digital include Longo Toyota, Jim Norton Toyota and Don McGill Toyota. Powersports dealers using Shift Digital are a group of their own: Polaris's program accounts for 492 domains where we could read the container, and Orlando Harley-Davidson loads Harley-Davidson's.
Shift Digital Tag Manager Alternatives & Competitors
Who are Shift Digital Tag Manager's competitors? The tag managers in this table do a different job. 9,555 domains run Shift Digital and Google Tag Manager together today, and 4,940 also run Adobe Experience Platform Launch. Tealium shares 756 domains and Matomo Tag Manager 5. A dealer doesn't pick Shift Digital over Google Tag Manager; the automaker picks Shift Digital to run its program, and the dealer keeps whatever else it uses.

Expert Analysis: Shift Digital Tag Manager Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Shift Digital Tag Manager is the one tag manager on our Tag Management table that a customer rarely chooses for itself. As of our October 2026 crawl it runs on 9,468 domains, 7,235 matched to a company, and nearly every one is a car or powersports dealer. I wanted to know who the buyer is, because for a sales team that changes everything. The script address answers it.
One container per automaker program
Shift Digital's loader carries a container name. On the 6,284 domains where we could read it, the name is a program, not a dealer: GMUS on 1,521 domains (24.2%), STELLANTIS on 902, POLARIS on 492, TOYOTA on 341, GMCA on 312, NISSANUS on 252, and 38 names in all. Grouped by maker, GM covers about 1,833 domains and Stellantis about 1,120. Dealers aren't anonymous inside a program: a second Shift Digital script, conduit, uses a key per site, with 2,732 keys across 3,117 domains.
"Shift Digital's customer is the automaker. The dealer is where the tag lives, and one General Motors container covers about a quarter of the sites we could read." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: if you sell to automakers, this page is a map of which brands run dealer programs through Shift Digital. If you sell to dealers, the tag tells you which program a store is in, not what it chose to buy.
How the tag gets there
Shift Digital describes its work as technology, program management and support services for national brands and OEMs and their local retailers. The dealer side is visible in the plumbing. Dealer.com's support site carries a Shift Digital enrollment and cancellation form asking for a dealer code and whether to add or remove tags. Some dealer sites load it from an oem_tagging folder on the site itself, as Toyota of Melbourne's does. The brands run it on their own sites too: Mitsubishi on mitsubishicars.com and Mazda on mazdausa.com.
Sales signal: website providers are the install channel. A vendor that wants into this stack partners with the website platforms and the program manager, not with 9,000 individual stores.
Who the dealers are
97.61% of matched companies with a known size have 200 or fewer employees, and 42.61% list 1 to 10 on LinkedIn. They're established: 48.47% were founded before 1990. Retail, Motor Vehicle Manufacturing, Automotive and Retail Motor Vehicles together cover 89.06% of matched companies. Dealer groups show up as clusters: 34 domains match AutoNation's LinkedIn page, Fred Haas has two stores in our top 50, and one Tennessee powersports dealer's title appears on 16 domains.
Sales signal: dedupe by dealer group and by page title before you count accounts. A rooftop count is closer to the real market than a domain count.
Two countries, many brands
The United States has 5,787 matched companies and Canada 1,384; nothing else reaches 20. Canada's count is high for its size because automakers run separate Canadian programs, GMCA, STELLANTISCA, TOYOTACA, KIACA, MAZDACA, VWCA and Nissan Canada's NCI among them. Powersports is the surprise: Polaris's container is the third largest, and Harley-Davidson, BMW Motorrad and Yamaha programs add more.
Sales signal: powersports dealers are a reachable, under-served group inside this list. Filter on Polaris and Harley-Davidson containers for a clean prospect set.
Bot walls and what we can see
Dealer sites are heavily defended. 333 domains (3.48%) showed our crawler only a bot wall, mostly "405 Not allowed" or "Blocked!", and another 1,373 (14.35%) left no page title at all; in a sample of 16 of those, 11 put up an Akamai or Cloudflare wall. We still detect the tag on these domains, but it limited our checks: we could confirm the script on only 29 of the 50 companies in the table.
Sales signal: expect automated prospecting tools to fail on these sites too. Use the domain list and company data rather than live page scraping.
Leaving, and staying
Since we began tracking it on 4 August 2026, 2,198 domains dropped the tag on at least one hostname, but 1,011 of 2,199 we rechecked still load it on another. Google Tag Manager runs beside it on 9,555 domains, out of 10,747 ever seen with both, and Adobe Experience Platform Launch on 4,940. No corridor passed our switching tests.
"When a dealer site drops Shift Digital's tag, look for a program or website change before you assume a tag-manager decision." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: a dropped Shift Digital tag is a trigger worth checking. It can mark a website-platform change, which is when a dealer reopens its vendor list.
The stack around it
Across the 9,565 clean live domains, Google Analytics runs on 99.8% and Adobe Analytics on 54.67%. Dealer software is everywhere: ComplyAuto on 23.23%, Kelley Blue Book on 14.88%, Edmunds on 13.44% and CarNow on 12.15%. Media is programmatic, with DoubleClick Floodlight on 54.02%, The Trade Desk on 38.26% and Microsoft Advertising on 36.5%.
Sales signal: these sites already run three or more ad platforms. Media and attribution vendors should approach the program level first, then the dealer groups.
What it costs
Shift Digital doesn't publish prices. Its website sells program management, retailer training and field consulting, provider certification and compliance reviews to brands, which suggests the container is one part of a larger program contract rather than a product with a list price. For a dealer, the cost question goes to the automaker's program team.
Sales signal: pricing power sits with the automaker. Vendors pitching a rival program technology need a brand-level sponsor; a dealer can't swap this tag on its own.
Key takeaways
1. 9,468 domains, almost all franchised car and powersports dealers in the US and Canada.
2. The container names an automaker program; GM's US container alone covers 24.2% of readable domains.
3. Website platforms install it on enrollment, so dealers rarely choose it themselves.
4. Heavy bot protection: 3.48% of domains show a wall to our crawler and 14.35% leave no title.
5. It runs beside Google Tag Manager on 9,555 domains; nothing suggests one replaces the other.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Shift Digital Tag Manager?
Car and powersports dealers enrolled in automaker programs. Our October 2026 crawl finds the tag on 9,468 domains, 7,171 of the matched companies are in the US or Canada, and the scripts name programs such as GM, Stellantis, Toyota, Polaris and Nissan. Dealers we checked include Longo Toyota, Capitol Chevrolet and Rallye BMW; Mitsubishi and Mazda run it on their own brand sites.
How many customers does Shift Digital Tag Manager have?
Two answers. Our October 2026 crawl finds its container on 9,468 domains, mostly dealer websites, 7,235 matched to a company. But the script address names an automaker program, not a dealer, and we counted 38 container names, led by GM's US container on 1,521 domains and Stellantis's on 902. Shift Digital's paying customers are mostly those brands.
What is Shift Digital Tag Manager's market share?
0.08% of Tag Management, 7th of the 17 tag managers we track, on 9,468 domains. The figure isn't like-for-like, because Shift Digital's container is an automaker program tag that runs beside a dealer's own tag manager: 9,555 domains run it with Google Tag Manager today. Within car-dealer websites it's common; outside that market we barely see it.
What are the best alternatives to Shift Digital Tag Manager?
For a dealer there usually isn't one, because the tag comes with the automaker's program. Dealers already run a general tag manager next to it: Google Tag Manager on 9,555 of these domains, Adobe Experience Platform Launch on 4,940 and Tealium on 756. For an automaker the real choice is which company runs its dealer program, and that decision sits outside our data.
Which countries use Shift Digital Tag Manager the most?
The United States, with 5,787 matched companies, and Canada, with 1,384, together 7,171 of the 7,203 we place in a country. No other country reaches 20. Canada's share is large for its size because automakers run separate Canadian programs: we found Canadian containers for GM, Stellantis, Toyota, Kia, Mazda, Volkswagen and Nissan in our October 2026 crawl.
What size companies use Shift Digital Tag Manager?
Dealerships, so mostly small and mid-sized businesses. 42.61% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, 36.51% have 11 to 50 and 18.49% have 51 to 200. Only 26 have more than 1,000, including automakers' own sites. Retail and motor-vehicle labels cover 89.06% of matched companies, so this is a dealer base, not a mix of industries.
How old are companies that use Shift Digital Tag Manager?
Among the Shift Digital Tag Manager domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2010s (19.23%), followed by the 2000s (15.94%). That matched subset is drawn from 7,235 companies and is not representative of all 9,468 detected domains. This suggests Shift Digital Tag Manager is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for Shift Digital Tag Manager?
The ideal Shift Digital Tag Manager customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (42.61%), then 11-50, Location: United States, then Canada, Industry: Franchised car and powersports dealers, Founded: 48.47% before 1990; 2010s largest decade, Program: GM, Stellantis, Toyota, Polaris, Nissan — based on our analysis of 7,235 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
What are Shift Digital apps?
In our crawl, shiftdigitalapps.io is the host Shift Digital serves its dealer-program scripts from. The common files are sd.js, which loads an automaker's container such as GMUS or STELLANTIS, and sda.js, its analytics script. Of the 6,284 domains where we could read the address, the container name was a program, not a dealer. A separate conduit script uses a key per site.
Which car brands use Shift Digital?
Grouping the containers we could read on 6,284 domains, GM leads with about 1,833 (US and Canada), then Stellantis about 1,120, Toyota and Lexus about 549, Polaris 492 and Nissan and Infiniti about 397. Kia, Harley-Davidson, Mazda, Volkswagen, Subaru, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, Genesis, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Maserati and Ferrari programs also appear. A domain can load more than one.
Why does a dealer website load Shift Digital's tag?
Because the dealer is in an automaker program that Shift Digital runs. Shift Digital says it serves national brands and OEMs and their local retailers. Website providers add the tag when a dealer enrolls: Dealer.com's support site has a Shift Digital enrollment and cancellation form asking for the dealer code and whether to add or remove tags.
Does Shift Digital replace Google Tag Manager?
No. On dealer sites they run together: 9,555 domains load both today, out of 10,747 ever seen with both. Google Tag Manager is the dealer's or website vendor's own container, while Shift Digital's carries the automaker program's tracking. None of the overlaps between Shift Digital and other tag managers passed our switching tests, because most sites still run both.
Do powersports dealers use Shift Digital Tag Manager?
Yes. Polaris's container is the third largest we found, on 492 domains, and Harley-Davidson's two containers cover 295 more, with BMW Motorrad on 44 and Yamaha on 17. Powersports dealer titles are among the most common on these domains; one Tennessee powersports dealer's title appears on 16 of them. Orlando Harley-Davidson is one we verified.
How much does Shift Digital Tag Manager cost?
Shift Digital doesn't publish prices. Its website describes technology, program management and support services sold to national brands and OEMs for their retailer networks, so the container comes as part of an automaker program rather than as a product a dealer buys alone. Ask the automaker's dealer program team for the dealer-side cost, if any.
How do I remove the Shift Digital tag from my dealer website?
Through your website provider and your automaker program, since the tag is tied to enrollment. Dealer.com, for example, takes Shift Digital requests through a support form with options for enrollment, cancellation, tagging issues and adding or removing tags. Removing it without leaving the program may break the automaker's reporting, so check program rules first.
