Companies Using Smartlook

I'm David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io, and I maintain the detection rules behind this page. Smartlook's vendor has published an end date for it. Cisco, which bought Smartlook in 2023, stopped selling new subscriptions on May 31, 2026 and will decommission the platform on September 30, 2027. Our September 29, 2026 crawl still finds it on 19,202 websites, 11,511 of them matched to a company record.

A product with an end date

The timeline is on smartlook.com, where Smartlook's old pricing address now redirects. End of Sale was May 31, 2026. Renewals and expansions stopped on August 31, 2026, so each paid plan runs to the end of its current term, and all paid subscriptions end by August 31, 2027, the last day of support. After that, accounts fall back to a free plan until September 30, 2027, when the platform is switched off and remaining data deleted. Smartlook's features continue in Digital Experience Analytics inside Splunk Observability Cloud, but subscriptions don't move over automatically and historical data isn't migrated.

Sales Signal: This is a replacement list with a deadline. A paid account loses its plan at its next renewal date, and the last ones run out on August 31, 2027. Any site that wants to keep recording has to pick a new tool by September 30, 2027, and our data doesn't show a rush yet.

Who has left so far

3,386 domains dropped Smartlook since we began tracking it in March 2026. Counting a domain as gone only when Smartlook has left every host on it (2,927 domains), that's a 13.3% drop rate, level with LogRocket's 13.4% on the same basis, and LogRocket has no end date. The usage chart even rises, from 16,568 in June to 19,202 in September, but that's our crawl: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month and our detection widens, and only 8.54% of today's Smartlook domains were first seen in August or September. The detection holds up. In a random browser sample, 27 of 30 pages loaded Smartlook's recorder, and in a sample of 200 domains 7.6% redirected to another Smartlook domain, so read the 19,202 as websites rather than companies.

The exits don't point anywhere yet. Of the domains that dropped Smartlook, 612 run Microsoft Clarity now, about the number you'd expect given how many already ran both, and 77.0% of sites that ever ran the two still do. The outlier is Amplitude: 104 leavers run it now, 92 of them in the last 30 days, but 46.3% of sites that ever ran both still do, above the 40% our switching test allows.

Sales Signal: No rival owns the Smartlook base yet. The 3,237 sites already running Microsoft Clarity next to Smartlook are the easiest to lose to a free tool; the other 83% have no Clarity to fall back on.

A Czech product with a Brazilian second market

Smartlook came out of Brno. Smartsupp, a Brno live-chat company, launched it in 2016 as a free product, and it became a company of its own in 2020, per a 2021 Brno Expat Centre interview with founder Petr Janošík. The base still shows it. Czechia has 954 matched companies, third after the United States (2,097) and Brazil (1,434), and 1,686 Smartlook domains end in .cz. Smartsupp itself runs on 522 Smartlook sites (2.74%), and Shoptet, the Czech store builder Smartlook documents an integration for, on 373 (1.96%). Brazil has 1,617 .br domains, and RD Station, a Brazilian marketing platform, runs on 248 of the sites. Poland (385) and Hungary (180) make the top 15 too.

Store builders spread it as well. Besides Shoptet, smaller local platforms carry Smartlook sites: Tray, KingHost and Nuvemshop in Brazil, UNAS and ShopRenter in Hungary. No single platform accounts for more than 5.3% of the base, so this is merchants switching on an integration one shop at a time, not a platform bundling Smartlook for everyone.

Sales Signal: A replacement pitch here needs Portuguese and Czech as well as English, and a Shoptet or WordPress install path will matter more than a feature table.

Customer profile

56.37% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 27.87% have 11 to 50. Only 143 have more than 1,000 staff. 46.14% were founded in the 2010s and 16.02% in the 2020s, close to Hotjar's 17.16%. Retail leads the industries at only 5.66%, with Advertising Services (5.42%) next. The larger names lean toward universities and retailers: Purdue University's library, Toronto Metropolitan University's continuing-education site, Tecmilenio and Universidad del Rosario, then Pingo Doce, Falabella and Calgary Co-op.

Sales Signal: A university running Smartlook on a library or continuing-education site will need procurement to replace it, which usually takes months. Reach those accounts first.

The stack around it

WordPress runs on 39.23% of the 19,017 live Smartlook domains and Elementor on 14.99%. WooCommerce (9.27%) leads Shopify (6.60%). Google Analytics is on 89.65% and HubSpot on 7.20%. Smartlook also sold events and funnels, which is why product analytics tools turn up in its comparisons; Mixpanel runs on 179 Smartlook sites.
