Companies Using Ko-fi
We detect Ko-fi on 6,393 domains, fourth in the Donations & Fundraising category at 5.69%. It belongs to the creator half of this table, not the nonprofit half, and the separation is measurable rather than a matter of opinion.
10.13% of Ko-fi domains also carry Patreon. Only 0.09% carry GiveWP and 0.18% carry Donorbox. Creators stack the platforms that pay them; they do not stack nonprofit donation forms.

Which Countries Use Ko-fi the Most?
Among the quarter of Ko-fi domains that match a company record, the United States leads with 442 and the United Kingdom is unusually close at 254, then Canada (62), Germany (61) and the Netherlands (44). Ko-fi is a British product and that shows: the UK-to-US ratio here is far higher than on Patreon, where it is 648 to 3,214.
Share of the 1,606 Ko-fi domains we matched to a company record — 25.1% of the 6,393 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Ko-fi Market Share Among Donations & Fundraising
Ko-fi is fourth in Donations & Fundraising at 5.69%. The ranking puts it below GiveWP and Donorbox, which are nonprofit donation software, and that comparison does not mean much. Its real peers are Patreon (21,307 domains) and Buy Me a Coffee (5,806). We give the rank without a total because our category listing pages at 50 rows.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Ko-fi Customers by Company Size & Age
92.34% of the entities we can size have 10 employees or fewer, the most concentrated in this category alongside Buy Me a Coffee. Only 6.23% have 11 to 50. What that really says is that a company database is the wrong instrument for this base: three quarters of Ko-fi's domains match no company record at all, because they belong to individuals.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
45.99% were founded in the 2010s and 38.81% in the 2020s, so more than eight in ten are under 15 years old. Only 11.13% reach back to the 2000s. Ko-fi's base is young, and younger than Patreon's.
What Industries Use Ko-fi the Most?
Computer Games at 6.68%, Technology and Internet 5.93%, Entertainment Providers 5.39% and Software Development 4.64%. Indie game developers, artists and technical writers, which is a narrower and more specific audience than Patreon's broader media and entertainment mix.
The nonprofit labels that dominate Donorbox in this same category are absent here. That is the two-market split made visible in the industry column: Ko-fi's supporters are paying an individual for their work, Donorbox's are giving to an organisation, and the sites they sit on have almost nothing in common.
Ko-fi Alternatives & Competitors
Patreon (21,307 domains) and Buy Me a Coffee (5,806), and creators run them together rather than choosing: 10.13% of Ko-fi domains also carry Patreon and 1.57% carry Buy Me a Coffee. The nonprofit tools in this category are not alternatives at all, at 0.18% for Donorbox and 0.09% for GiveWP.

Expert Analysis: Ko-fi Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

With over a decade analysing technographic data across 50M+ crawled domains, I have reviewed Ko-fi across 6,393 active domains as of our August 2026 crawl, fourth in its category at 5.69%. It is a good example of a technology where the standard charts are the least interesting thing on the page, and knowing that is the analysis.
1. Three quarters of the base is invisible to a company database
Only 25.1% of Ko-fi domains match a company record, the lowest in this category. Every chart below describes that quarter. The other three quarters belong to individuals: artists, indie developers, technical writers.
So when this page reports that 92.34% of Ko-fi's companies have 10 employees or fewer, the honest reading is not "Ko-fi sells to small companies". It is "the instrument only sees the few Ko-fi users that happen to be registered as an organisation, and even those are tiny". We publish the charts because they are real, but the enrichment rate is the number that should govern how you read them.
2. The overlap figures are the most reliable thing here
Co-occurrence does not need LinkedIn, so it covers the whole base. 10.13% of Ko-fi domains also carry Patreon — the highest overlap between any two technologies in this category — and 1.57% carry Buy Me a Coffee. Against the nonprofit half: 0.18% Donorbox, 0.09% GiveWP.
"When enrichment is thin, stop reading the demographic charts and read the co-occurrence. It covers every domain, and here it separates two markets by two orders of magnitude." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO at TechnologyChecker.io
A hundred-fold difference between a creator's overlap with Patreon and its overlap with GiveWP is not a nuance. Donations & Fundraising is two categories wearing one name, and this pair of numbers is the cleanest proof of it we have.
3. The UK ratio is a genuine home-market signal
Among domains we can place, the United States leads with 442 and the United Kingdom is close behind at 254. On Patreon the equivalent ratio is 3,214 to 648. Ko-fi is a British product, and unlike most home-market claims this one survives the obvious objection, because both numbers come from the same crawl and the same enrichment source.
4. What the site actually looks like
Google Fonts on 58.96%, Google Analytics on 50.48%, RSS on 45.34%, WordPress on 36.09%, Tailwind CSS on 18.47%, Google AdSense on 16.93%. A personal blog or portfolio with a feed, sometimes carrying ads, with a tip button attached. The base is young too: 45.99% founded in the 2010s and 38.81% in the 2020s.
5. Removal, not migration
Of the 589 domains that dropped Ko-fi entirely, 25 now carry Patreon. That is 4.24% against a 10.13% rate among domains that kept it, so a leaver is less than half as likely to be on Patreon as a stayer. We have now run this test across four categories this week and the answer has been the same every time: the destination is not a competitor, it is nothing. A button comes off in a redesign or when someone stops publishing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Ko-fi?
Individuals, mostly, which is why a company database struggles with it: only 25.1% of Ko-fi domains match a company record, the lowest in this category. Among the quarter we can see, the leading industries are Computer Games (6.68%), Technology and Internet (5.93%), Entertainment Providers (5.39%) and Software Development (4.64%). Indie developers, artists and technical writers.
How many customers does Ko-fi have?
We detect 6,393 domains running Ko-fi across our monthly crawl of live business domains. Company data could be matched for 1,606 of them (25.1%), and every company-size, industry and country breakdown on this page describes that matched subset rather than the full detected base. A further 647 domains carried a Ko-fi detection previously and no longer do.
What is Ko-fi's market share?
Ko-fi holds 5.69% of the Donations & Fundraising category, ranking #4. This is a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category — not a share of all websites, and not a share of spending — so it is not directly comparable to figures published on other denominators.
What are the best alternatives to Ko-fi?
The top alternatives to Ko-fi include GiveWP (28% market share), Patreon (18.95% market share), Donorbox (5.84% market share), Buy me a coffee (5.16% market share) — measured as a share of the domains we detect running a platform in this category.
Which countries use Ko-fi the most?
United States leads with 442 matched Ko-fi domains, followed by United Kingdom (254), Canada (62), Germany (61), Netherlands (44). These are counts within the 1,606 domains we could match to a company record, not the full detected base.
What size companies use Ko-fi?
The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 92.34% of the Ko-fi domains we could match to a company record and size — a subset of 1,606 matched companies, not of all 6,393 detected domains. This is followed by 11-50 employees (6.23%) and 51-200 employees (0.97%).
How old are companies that use Ko-fi?
Among the Ko-fi domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, most were founded in the 2020s (38.81%), followed by the 2010s (45.99%). That matched subset is drawn from 1,606 companies and is not representative of all 6,393 detected domains. This suggests Ko-fi is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for Ko-fi?
The ideal Ko-fi customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, Industry: Games, tech and entertainment, Location: US or UK, Founded: 2010s or later, Signal: A link or a widget — based on our analysis of 1,606 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
How many websites use Ko-fi?
We detect Ko-fi on 6,393 active domains as of our August 2026 crawl, fourth in the Donations & Fundraising category at 5.69%. The rule matches either an embedded Ko-fi widget or a link to a ko-fi.com page opening in a new tab, so the count covers both the button and the mention.
Ko-fi vs Patreon?
Patreon is much larger in our data, 21,307 domains against 6,393, and it is built around recurring membership where Ko-fi started with one-off tips. But they are not an either-or: 10.13% of Ko-fi domains also carry Patreon, the highest overlap between any two technologies in this category. Creators run both.
Do creators leave Ko-fi for Patreon?
No. Of the 589 domains that dropped Ko-fi entirely, 25 now carry Patreon. That is 4.24%, against a 10.13% rate among domains that kept Ko-fi, so a leaver is less than half as likely to be on Patreon as a stayer. What we are seeing is buttons being removed, not creators migrating.
Is Ko-fi bigger in the UK?
Relative to its size, clearly. Among domains we can place, the United States leads with 442 and the United Kingdom is close behind at 254. Compare Patreon, where the same ratio is 3,214 to 648. Ko-fi is a British product and its home market shows.
What kinds of sites carry a Ko-fi button?
Personal blogs and portfolios. Google Fonts on 58.96%, Google Analytics 50.48%, RSS on 45.34%, WordPress on 36.09%, Tailwind CSS on 18.47% and Google AdSense on 16.93%. A site with a feed, sometimes carrying ads, with a tip button attached.
Is Ko-fi used by nonprofits?
Almost not at all, and that is the useful answer. 0.09% of Ko-fi domains carry GiveWP and 0.18% carry Donorbox, the two nonprofit tools in the same category. Donations & Fundraising holds two separate markets and Ko-fi is entirely in the creator one.
How old are Ko-fi's users?
45.99% of the entities we can identify were founded in the 2010s and 38.81% in the 2020s, so more than eight in ten are under 15 years old, and younger than Patreon's base.
