Biggest Movers
Expert Insight: Loyalty & Rewards Software Market Share & Momentum
Smile holds close to two fifths of this table, and the second-largest row isn't a loyalty program at all.
Smile runs on about 48,800 of the roughly 126,000 domains where we detect a loyalty or rewards tool, about 39%. The Appstle row in second place, about 17%, matches Appstle's subscriptions app rather than a loyalty program; set it aside and Smile holds close to half of what's left, with Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals and LoyaltyLion a long way behind. Most of the top rows are Shopify apps, and the category is shrinking over the latest 30 days, with Smile taking most of the loss.
One loyalty leader, and a subscriptions app in second
Smile about 39%, Appstle 17%, Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals 7.7%, LoyaltyLion 4.9%, BON Loyalty 3.5%, Rise.ai 3.4%. The Appstle row is matched on subscription-admin.appstle.com, the script of Appstle's subscriptions app, so it counts stores selling subscriptions, not stores running a points program. Without it Smile holds close to half the category. The table also mixes in neighbours: Swym and Wishlist Hero are wishlist apps, Premio Coupon X is a coupon popup and Rise.ai sells gift cards and store credit.
Nothing grows over 30 days, and the 90-day gains are new detections
The largest 30-day gain on the movers card is Marsello at about 260 domains; after it nobody adds more than a handful, and Flocktory is held off the card because we only began detecting it inside the window. Over 90 days Joy added about 3,400 and Premio Coupon X about 1,700, but each netted most of its footprint in that window, which is our detection set growing rather than adoption. Swym added about 970 over 90 days and Appstle about 850, while the established loyalty apps, Smile, Yotpo, LoyaltyLion and BON Loyalty, are flat to down on both windows.
About 11% turnover, and Smile carries most of the loss
About 11% of the category's domains dropped out of detection in 30 days, nearly twice the rate in reviews. Smile lost about 6,300 domains against 1,200 added, roughly 13% of its base, and its net loss of about 5,000 is close to 70% of the category's. Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals lost about 12% of its base in the same month, while LoyaltyLion, BON Loyalty and Appstle each lost under 5%. Dropped means the script stopped appearing in our crawl; for a Shopify app that is an uninstall or a closed store, and closures are common at this end of the market.
Smile is falling on both windows while the field stands still
Smile is down about 5,000 domains over 30 days and about 4,200 over 90, the only large row moving clearly in one direction. Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals is down about 1,000 on both windows, all of it in the latest month. Most of the rest move by a few hundred domains or less, and the bigger 90-day gains are new detections, so there is no evidence yet of where Smile's lost stores went. Two blind spots: Growave, a Shopify loyalty suite, is filed under marketing automation, and a program run inside a POS or a mobile app leaves nothing on the storefront for us to see.

Loyalty & Rewards
FAQ.
What is Loyalty & Rewards software?
Loyalty & Rewards covers the tools a site can load or configure to handle this part of its stack. We detect one of the 51 loyalty & rewards tools in this category on 126,342 live sites. A detection means we found the technology on the site, which is not the same as a paid account.
What are the most popular loyalty & rewards platforms?
Across 126,342 detected sites, the most widely found loyalty & rewards tools are: Smile (38.63% share, 48,800 sites), Appstle (16.97% share, 21,436 sites), Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals (7.71% share, 9,741 sites). Others we see regularly include LoyaltyLion and BON Loyalty.
Which loyalty & rewards tool has the largest market share?
Smile is the most widely detected loyalty & rewards tool at 38.63% share, on 48,800 sites. The largest share of those sites belongs to Retail companies, and to businesses in the 1-10 employee band.
Which industries use loyalty & rewards software the most?
The industries with the most detected sites in this category are Retail, Retail Apparel and Fashion, Personal Care Product Manufacturing, Food and Beverage Services, Manufacturing. Industry mix follows where these tools get installed, so a category carried by website builders or agency templates will lean toward the verticals those platforms serve rather than the vendor's target buyer.
Which countries have the highest adoption of loyalty & rewards tools?
We detect the most loyalty & rewards sites in United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France. Country here is the company's registered location in our enriched data rather than where the site is served from, so read it as a ranking of markets rather than a measure of any single one.
How do I choose the right loyalty & rewards platform?
Start from your own size, industry and primary use case rather than from share. Smile, Appstle and Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals are the three we detect most often in this category, which tells you what is common, not what fits you. Compare their integrations, pricing tiers and support commitments against the workflow you actually run, and check each vendor's own documentation for current capabilities.
How many companies use loyalty & rewards software?
TechnologyChecker.io detects loyalty & rewards tools on 126,342 live sites. That is a count of sites carrying the technology, not a count of paying customers, and a site running two tools in this category is counted under each. We crawl 2 billion+ URLs across 29.9M live business domains each sweep.
What is the source of this data?
TechnologyChecker.io's web crawling and technology detection platform. We've logged 2.12 billion total detections over 20+ years, covering 40,000+ technologies across the 29.9M live business domains we successfully crawl each sweep. Detection methods include JavaScript analysis, HTTP headers, HTML patterns, DNS records, and certificate transparency logs.

Ask.
Common questions about loyalty & rewards software, answered with real data.
What is loyalty program software?
Loyalty software runs points, tiers, referral rewards and VIP programs for online stores, usually as an app that adds a rewards widget and an account panel to the storefront. Smile, Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals, LoyaltyLion and BON Loyalty are typical examples. We detect a loyalty or rewards tool on about 126,000 live websites across 51 tools, and most of the top rows are Shopify apps.
Which loyalty program software has the largest market share?
Smile, formerly Sweet Tooth. It runs on about 48,800 of the roughly 126,000 live websites where we detect a loyalty or rewards tool, about 39% of the category. The second row, Appstle at about 17%, is Appstle's subscriptions app rather than a loyalty program, so the next real loyalty vendors are Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals at about 7.7% and LoyaltyLion at about 4.9%.
How much does Smile.io cost?
At the time of writing Smile has a free plan for up to 200 orders a month, then Essential at $15 a month, Standard at $79 and Growth at $199, each with a monthly order allowance, plus Smile Plus at $999 a month on annual billing. Pricing scales with order volume, so a store's monthly orders, not its customer count, decide the plan.
What's the difference between Smile and Yotpo Loyalty?
Both run points and referral programs for online stores. Smile is far larger in our crawl, on about 48,800 domains to Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals' 9,700, and sells loyalty on its own with a free entry plan. Yotpo Loyalty, formerly Swell Rewards, is part of Yotpo's wider suite alongside its reviews product, which suits stores already buying from Yotpo. Both lost domains over the latest 30 days.
Smile vs LoyaltyLion: which is bigger?
Smile, by a wide margin. It runs on about 48,800 domains against LoyaltyLion's 6,200, nearly eight times as many in our crawl. LoyaltyLion supports Shopify, Magento and BigCommerce, while Smile's free plan makes it the usual first loyalty app for small Shopify stores. LoyaltyLion has been steadier recently, losing about 5% of its base in the latest month against roughly 13% for Smile.
Is Appstle a loyalty program?
Not in our data. Appstle makes several Shopify apps, and the Appstle row in our loyalty table is matched on the script of Appstle's subscriptions app. Its roughly 21,400 domains are stores selling subscriptions or subscribe-and-save products, not stores running an Appstle points program. That row is about 17% of the category, so read the loyalty ranking with it set aside.
Which loyalty apps are growing?
Few, over the latest 30 days: Marsello leads with about 260 net domains and nothing else adds more than a handful. Over 90 days Joy added about 3,400 and Premio Coupon X about 1,700, but most of each arrived as first detections inside that window rather than adoption. The established apps, Smile, Yotpo, LoyaltyLion and BON Loyalty, are flat to down on both windows.
Is Smile.io losing customers?
It's losing domains in our crawl. Smile lost about 5,000 net over the latest 30 days and about 4,200 over 90, with roughly 13% of its base dropping in a month, the largest decline in the category. Dropped means the script stopped appearing, which for a Shopify app is an uninstall or a closed store, and we have no switching data showing where those stores went. It still holds about 39% of the category.
Does a small store need loyalty software?
Usually not until repeat purchases matter. A points or referral program pays off when customers buy more than once, so it suits consumables, fashion and subscriptions better than one-off purchases. Small Shopify stores can start free: Smile's free plan covers up to 200 orders a month. Below that volume, a welcome discount and a post-purchase email are simpler to run and measure.
