Sezzle Usage Statistics

Sezzle's real adoption starts in October 2017, when our detection history picks up 3 domains and then 6 within two months. The flat single-domain line before that is an artifact of the archive rather than genuine usage, since Sezzle was founded in 2016. Note also that the chart splices two measurement systems, our long-run history to July 2025 and our own live crawl from June 2026, so the move from 6,854 to 7,535 across the gap is a coverage change. Inside the live crawl Sezzle has gone from 7,535 to 8,681 domains.

List of Companies Using Sezzle

Our verified list of companies using Sezzle on TechnologyChecker.io covers 2,821 merchants matched to company records, out of 8,681 domains where we detect Sezzle. That is a 32.4% match rate, the lowest of the three major BNPL providers. The reason is structural: Sezzle's base is heavily weighted toward small independent Shopify stores, and those often have no company profile to match against.

Here are the most recognisable stores that accept Sezzle in our current crawl, ranked by audience size. David's Bridal, Sportsman's Warehouse, Mastermind Toys, Laura Canada, Confluence Outdoor and TCL all carry it on live storefronts. The Canadian names in that list are not a coincidence, and they reflect the 34.61% Canadian share of Sezzle's enriched merchant base.

Which Countries Use Sezzle the Most?

Which countries use Sezzle the most? The United States leads with 1,681 enriched merchants (60.66%), but Canada at 34.61% is the number that stands out. Sezzle Customers by Company Size & Age

What size businesses use Sezzle? Small ones. 72.04% of Sezzle merchants employ 1 to 10 people and 21.18% employ 11 to 50, based on our analysis of 2,821 enriched companies. That places Sezzle between Afterpay (76.47% micro) and Affirm (58.07%). Only 0.11% fall in the 1,001 to 5,000 band, so recognisable names like David's Bridal and Sportsman's Warehouse are genuine outliers.

What Industries Use Sezzle the Most?

Retail dominates at 26.08%, the highest single-vertical concentration of the three major BNPL providers. Apparel is the anchor beneath it: Retail Apparel and Fashion takes 13.93% and a legacy 'Apparel & Fashion' label adds another 3.05%, so clothing accounts for roughly one Sezzle merchant in six. Wellness and Fitness Services (6.05%) and Sporting Goods (3.39%) fill out the rest.

Retail companies using Sezzle make up 470 enriched merchants, and fashion runs through the named examples: David's Bridal in bridalwear, Laura Canada and Tristan in Canadian womenswear, Dress Up in US boutique apparel. LinkedIn carries two overlapping taxonomies for clothing and for wellness, so we report both labels rather than silently merging them. Combined, apparel is close to 17% of the base.

Sezzle Alternatives & Competitors

Sezzle and Affirm are separated by 842 storefronts, or 0.72 percentage points, so third place here is close to a tie. Both sit an order of magnitude below Afterpay's 68.33%. Where they differ is shape: Sezzle is a Shopify-native apparel play across the US and Canada, while Affirm spans more platforms and sells into vehicles, furniture and electronics.

Expert Analysis: Sezzle Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Emma Davies
Emma DaviesData Analyst, TechnologyChecker

Sezzle is the BNPL provider I find most useful to analyse, not because it is the biggest, but because it is the most concentrated. When 93% of a technology's install base sits on one ecommerce platform and a third of its merchants sit in one secondary country, the data stops being a market overview and starts being a precise description of a niche.

A Shopify product in all but name

Our co-occurrence data puts Shopify on 93.09% of Sezzle storefronts. For context, Affirm sits at 63.05% and Afterpay at 43.75%. I have looked at a lot of technology overlaps and figures above 90% usually mean one of two things: either the product is distributed primarily through that platform's app store, or its integration effort has gone almost entirely in one direction.

The supporting numbers point the same way. Shop Pay appears on 78.37% of Sezzle stores and Klaviyo on 42.93%, the highest marketing-tool attachment of the three providers, with Judge.me reviews on 25.24%. That is a recognisable Shopify merchant stack, repeated across thousands of stores.

At 93.09% Shopify, Sezzle is less a payments company with a Shopify integration than a Shopify-ecosystem product that happens to do payments.

The practical consequence is that Sezzle's addressable market is bounded by Shopify's. It cannot grow much beyond that base without building somewhere else first, and Afterpay's more even spread across Shopify and Square Online shows what the alternative looks like.

The Canadian anomaly

34.61% of Sezzle's enriched merchants are Canadian. Affirm's Canadian share is 7.98%. Afterpay's is 6.63%. Sezzle is roughly four to five times more Canadian-weighted than either competitor, and that is not a rounding artifact on a small sample, it is 959 of 2,821 matched companies.

The named merchants corroborate it. Laura Canada and Tristan are Canadian womenswear chains. Mastermind Toys is a Canadian specialty retailer. These are not US brands with a Canadian subdomain; they are domestic businesses.

If you are building a prospect list of Canadian ecommerce, Sezzle detection is the single sharpest BNPL filter available. A Canadian Shopify apparel store is close to Sezzle's modal customer, and no other provider in this category gives you that targeting for free.

Apparel, twice over

Retail leads the industry mix at 26.08%, which is the highest single-vertical concentration of the three major providers. Beneath it, Retail Apparel and Fashion takes 13.93% and a legacy 'Apparel & Fashion' label adds 3.05%. LinkedIn carries both taxonomies, and we report them separately rather than merging them quietly, but they describe the same businesses. Clothing is therefore close to 17% of Sezzle's merchant base.

The same duplication affects wellness, where 'Wellness and Fitness Services' at 6.05% and 'Health, Wellness & Fitness' at 1.72% overlap. Anyone reading these charts should combine those pairs mentally. We have left them as the source records them because silently merging categories is how distributions quietly stop being reproducible.

The weakest enrichment, and why that is informative

We match 2,821 of 8,681 Sezzle domains to company records, a 32.4% rate. Afterpay reaches 42.8% and Affirm 45.9%. My read is that this is not a data-quality problem so much as a finding: match rate tracks how established a business is, because very small owner-operated stores frequently have no company profile at all.

Sezzle having the lowest match rate, the second-highest micro-merchant share at 72.04%, and the tightest Shopify concentration are three measurements of the same underlying fact. Its customer is a small independent Shopify store. Every distribution on this page should be read as describing the matched third, and the unmatched two thirds are almost certainly smaller still.

Sezzle's 32.4% enrichment rate is the lowest in the category, and it is a finding rather than a flaw: its merchants are too small to have company records.

Third place is a tie

Sezzle's 7.45% share against Affirm's 8.17% is a gap of 842 storefronts. Treating one as second and the other as third overstates a difference that could close in a quarter. The real distance is between both of them and Afterpay at 68.33%.

On switching, our crawler has watched since 16 March 2026. Sezzle lost 44 merchants to Afterpay and won 33 back, and gained 29 from Affirm while losing 11. ResolvePay sent 23. So Sezzle is net negative against the leader and net positive against Affirm, which fits the positioning: it competes with Affirm for the same small-basket merchant and does not really compete with Afterpay's scale.

One caveat I would apply to all of it. Five months is a short observation window, and 952 domains dropped Sezzle in that period without our detecting a replacement, a much larger flow than any competitive switch. Cost is the likely reason at 6.1% plus 30 cents, plus a $15 monthly charge on merchants under $300 of volume, which is a meaningful burden for exactly the micro-merchants that make up most of this base.

Reading the chart, and one honest correction

The usage history on this page needs two caveats, and I would rather put them up front than let someone quote a number that doesn't mean what they think. First, the flat single-domain line running from 2012 to late 2017 is an archive artifact. Sezzle was founded in 2016, so it cannot have had merchants in 2012. Real adoption begins in October 2017, when we pick up 3 domains, then 6 within two months.

Second, the series splices two measurement systems at the 2025-07 to 2026-06 gap. Everything before comes from our long-run detection history and everything after from our own live crawl, so the move from 6,854 to 7,535 is a coverage change rather than growth. The like-for-like segment is June 2026 onward, where Sezzle went from 7,535 to 8,681 domains.

If I had to summarise Sezzle in one line for a sales team, it would be this: a Canadian or US Shopify apparel store with fewer than ten employees. That is a narrower description than we can write for any other provider in this category, and narrow is usually what makes technographic data worth paying for.

Do merchants use Sezzle alongside Afterpay?

Some do, more than in any other pairing we measured. 8.87% of Sezzle merchants also run Afterpay and 2.27% run Affirm. Those are still small shares, and by comparison 78.26% run Apple Pay. Instalment providers behave close to winner-take-one per storefront, unlike card wallets which merchants routinely stack together. Sezzle merchants multi-home more than any other pairing we measured.

Why do merchants leave Sezzle?

Our data shows 952 domains dropping Sezzle since we began watching in March 2026. Of the attributable moves, 44 went to Afterpay and 11 to Affirm. Cost is a plausible driver at 6.1% plus 30 cents, along with the $15 monthly fee that applies to merchants processing under $300 in a 30-day window.

Is Sezzle bigger in Canada than the US?

No, but it is unusually strong there. The United States holds 60.66% of Sezzle's enriched merchants against Canada's 34.61%. What makes that notable is the comparison: Canada accounts for just 7.98% of Affirm's base and 6.63% of Afterpay's, so Sezzle is roughly four to five times more Canadian-weighted than either rival.

Is Sezzle still growing?

Yes, on our like-for-like measurement. Sezzle went from 7,535 active domains in June 2026 to 8,681 by August 2026. Read the earlier chart carefully: the step between July 2025 and June 2026 reflects a change in our crawl coverage rather than adoption, and the flat line before October 2017 is an archive artifact.

What is the difference between Sezzle and Afterpay?

Scale and platform. Afterpay runs on 79,610 storefronts to Sezzle's 8,681, roughly nine times larger. Sezzle is far more concentrated: 93.09% of its stores are Shopify against Afterpay's 43.75%, and 34.61% of its merchants are Canadian against Afterpay's 6.63%. Afterpay also carries a substantial Australian and UK base that Sezzle lacks.
