Companies Using Headless UI
Headless UI is Tailwind Labs' free, open-source set of unstyled, accessible components for React and Vue, and our October 2026 crawl finds it on 14,697 domains. That count leaves out 15,371 matches, more than half the raw total, nearly all of them domain-for-sale landers from the Nameshift marketplace built with a community Svelte port; the How We Counted note at the end of this page has the numbers. Below is the list of companies that use Headless UI, with size, country and industry data for the 9,102 domains we matched to a company.
The Tailwind CSS pairing is close to total: 97.9% of these domains run it, and 63.2% run Next.js. Large organisations use Headless UI on main sites and single-purpose apps alike: MSCI on www.msci.com, DocuSign on trial.docusign.com, Telkom on www.telkom.co.za and Vertex Pharmaceuticals on its clinical-trials finder. On our cleaned count it ranks #17 in UI & CSS Frameworks with a 0.11% share.

Headless UI Usage Statistics
One point: 14,697 live domains in October 2026, counted without the for-sale landers described at the end of this page. We don't chart earlier months because they were counted before that cleaning, and a chart mixing the two would show the landers coming and going rather than Headless UI. Read the figure as a floor. Our rule sees Headless UI only when a component renders an element whose id starts with headlessui-, and a page whose menus and dialogs render nothing at load time isn't counted.

List of Companies Using Headless UI
Our list of companies using Headless UI names 50 of the 9,102 matched companies. We opened every detection URL in a headless browser on 12 October 2026, and 38 rendered at least one element with a headlessui- id. The rest blocked automated browsers, timed out or showed no component on the landing page. We removed two rows, a duplicate of PERSOL APAC under its old name and a Westcon-Comstor site matched to a South African subsidiary, and added CSR and Servus Credit Union, both checked.
Among the brands that use Headless UI, 28 of the 50 were detected on a subdomain. Many websites using Headless UI at larger companies are single-purpose apps: a trial sign-up, a clinical-trials search, a jobs site, a payments page, an appointment booker. Check which surface carries it before you pitch, because the team behind that app may not own the main site.

Which Countries Use Headless UI the Most?
Which countries use Headless UI the most? The United States leads with 2,390 matched domains, 4.7 times the United Kingdom's 509. Behind them, five countries sit within 93 domains of each other: Germany (434), Australia (382), Canada (353), France (343) and India (341). English-speaking countries (the US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand) hold 3,823 of the 9,102 matched companies, so most of this base is spread across Europe, Asia and Latin America, with the Netherlands (298) and Brazil (225) next.
Share of the 9,102 Headless UI domains we matched to a company record — 61.9% of the 14,697 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
Headless UI Market Share Among UI & CSS Frameworks
What is Headless UI's market share? On the cleaned count, 0.11% of UI & CSS Frameworks, #17 of 85 technologies we track there, counting domains at TechnologyChecker.io. Our category table still uses the raw figure, which includes the Nameshift landers, and shows it at #11 with 0.22%. The libraries above it are far bigger: Tailwind CSS has 3,243,962 domains (24.19%), about 221 times Headless UI's count, and Radix UI has 647,067 (4.82%). A share this small fits a library that only renders inside React or Vue apps and adds behaviour to Tailwind rather than replacing it.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Headless UI Customers by Company Size & Age
Is Headless UI only used by startups? Mostly small companies, yes. 61.02% of matched companies have 1-10 employees and 85.10% have 50 or fewer, based on 8,778 companies with a size band. 174 companies have more than 1,000 staff, and in our list they tend to use it on one product: DocuSign on its trial sign-up, Vertex Pharmaceuticals on clinicaltrials.vrtx.com, Polaris on adventures.polaris.com.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
39.14% of matched companies with a founding year date from the 2020s and 35.62% from the 2010s, so 74.76% were founded in 2010 or later. That fits a library first published to npm in September 2020. The older tail is small but real: 199 companies (3.61%) predate 1960, among them NSF (founded 1944), whose www.nsf.org menus render Headless UI popovers, and BESIX (1909).
What Industries Use Headless UI the Most?
Software Development leads at 11.43%, followed by Technology, Information and Internet (6.94%) and IT Services and IT Consulting (6.83%). Those three make up 25.20% of matched companies, based on our enriched company data. Financial Services is fourth at 4.67%, ahead of Real Estate (2.66%) and Retail (2.46%), and our company list has several of them: the insurers Kemper and RIMAC Seguros, the wealth firm Osaic and Hero FinCorp's payments site.
Software companies using Headless UI (969) are the group most likely to have picked the library themselves. Financial services companies on Headless UI (396) include MSCI, Osaic and Hero FinCorp's payments site, and some get it inside a hosted booking app: Servus Credit Union's appointments.servus.ca loads one from a scheduling vendor. Real estate firms using Headless UI (226) include Metro Brokers, the Atlanta brokerage on www.metrobrokers.com.
Headless UI Alternatives & Competitors
Most of this table works alongside Headless UI rather than against it. Tailwind CSS (24.19%) runs on 97.9% of Headless UI domains, because Headless UI is built to be styled with it. Radix UI (4.82%) is the closest functional alternative, unstyled accessible primitives for React, and it appears on 12.8% of Headless UI domains. shadcn/ui (4.04%), styled components originally built on Radix, appears on 8.4%. Material UI (1.09%) and Chakra UI (0.18%) ship styled components, a different choice. Other headless options outside this table include Adobe's React Aria and Base UI, from the creators of Radix, Material UI and Floating UI.

How We Counted Headless UI Sites
A domain counts here if a page on it renders a button or div whose id starts with headlessui-, the prefix Headless UI gives its components. React builds create those ids in the browser, so the rule runs on rendered pages, and a page whose menus and dialogs render nothing is missed. Every figure on this page is a floor for that reason.
Before computing anything, we removed 15,371 domains of the 30,068 that matched, 51.1% of the raw count. 15,296 are SvelteKit sites. The rule also matches svelte-headlessui, an unofficial community port that keeps the same ids, and nearly every SvelteKit match is a domain-for-sale lander from the Nameshift marketplace: an app loaded from buy.nameshift.com, usually with an empty page title, so the title filter that catches most for-sale pages never saw it. All 22 SvelteKit matches we sampled before publication were Nameshift landers, on .nl, .be, .de, .se and .ch domains, and four more we opened on 12 October loaded the same Nameshift app. 6,482 of the 15,296 did carry a for-sale or gambling title. A further 75 domains were removed for for-sale or gambling titles alone. Taking out every SvelteKit match also drops any genuine Svelte site using the port, but that port isn't Tailwind Labs' library, so those don't belong in this count either.
Every chart and table on this page uses the remaining 14,697. Our UI & CSS Frameworks category table hasn't had this correction and still counts the raw figure, which puts Headless UI at #11 with 0.22%; on the cleaned count it is #17 with 0.11%. We chart only October 2026 because the earlier monthly totals were counted before the cleaning.
Expert Analysis: Headless UI Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Headless UI is a useful developer signal, but only after cleaning. As of our October 2026 crawl, TechnologyChecker.io detects Headless UI on 14,697 domains, and 9,102 of them match a company record, a 61.9% match rate. Once the junk is out, a Headless UI hit is a fairly reliable marker of a team that writes its own React or Vue front end with Tailwind CSS. Getting to that point meant removing more than half the raw matches.
What the signal catches
Our rule looks for button and div elements whose id starts with headlessui-, the prefix Tailwind Labs' library, published under the MIT license on GitHub, assigns when a component renders (our post on technology detection methods explains how DOM signals like this are matched). It's a precise marker with one blind spot: a community Svelte port reuses the same ids. That port is what 15,296 SvelteKit matches were running, and nearly all of them were domain-for-sale landers from the Nameshift marketplace, served from buy.nameshift.com, usually with no page title. With those and 75 other for-sale or gambling pages removed, the raw 30,068 becomes 14,697. The count is still a floor, because a page whose menus are closed may render no id at all.
"More than half of what matched Headless UI was one marketplace's for-sale pages built with a Svelte port. Clean that out and the signal gets sharp: it marks teams that build their own React or Vue front end on Tailwind." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO and Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: Use Headless UI as a filter for in-house front-end teams. Unlike a website-builder signal, a headlessui- id means somebody wrote React or Vue code and chose Tailwind's component layer, which is the audience for design-system, accessibility-testing and front-end hiring offers.
Growth trajectory
We publish one clean point, October 2026. Earlier monthly totals were counted before we removed the Nameshift landers, so charting them would show that fleet growing rather than Headless UI. The cleaned count will build a series from here, and even then counts are not a like-for-like series over time: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time.
Sales Signal: Treat the October list as a snapshot to prospect from, not a trend line. If your offer depends on recent adoption, wait for the series and check first-detection dates rather than reading a new domain as a new build.
The companies behind the domains
The matched base is small and young: 61.02% of companies with a size band have 1-10 employees, and 74.76% of those with a founding year date from 2010 or later. Software Development (11.43%), Technology, Information and Internet (6.94%) and IT Services (6.83%) make up 25.20%, with Financial Services next at 4.67%. The United States leads with 2,390 matched domains, and English-speaking countries hold 3,823 of the 9,102, so most of the base is outside them.
The enterprise tail is 174 companies above 1,000 staff, and it uses Headless UI on specific surfaces. I opened all 50 detection URLs in our list on 12 October: 38 rendered a headlessui- element, and 28 of the 50 sit on a subdomain. MSCI uses it on its main site; DocuSign on trial.docusign.com; Vertex Pharmaceuticals on its clinical-trials finder; the International Rescue Committee on its Airbel Impact Lab site. Some rows came with a vendor's app: Servus Credit Union's appointments.servus.ca is a hosted booking page whose Headless UI was chosen by the scheduling vendor, not the credit union.
Sales Signal: At a large company, sell to the team behind the detected app. A trial sign-up or a clinical-trials finder built on Headless UI belongs to a product or marketing engineering group with its own release cycle, and a hosted booking page belongs to its vendor.
Why this profile has no migration table
Headless UI doesn't compete for an exclusive slot. It is built to be styled with Tailwind CSS, which runs on 97.9% of its domains, and it often runs next to other component libraries. Of the 2,690 domains we've seen running Headless UI and Radix UI together, 1,892 still run both; for shadcn/ui it is 1,246 of 1,790. Those are teams adding one library to another, so a "switched to Radix" row would mislead.
"Component libraries pile up inside one codebase. Seven in ten sites that ever ran Headless UI next to Radix still run both, which tells you these are additions, not replacements." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO and Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales Signal: Don't pitch a "migration off Headless UI". The better opening is consolidation: a codebase carrying Headless UI alongside Radix UI or shadcn/ui has two component layers to maintain, and that's a real conversation for design-system tools and agencies.
Reading the stack
Next.js runs on 63.20% of Headless UI domains and React Router on 9.81%, so this is mostly a React base. Vue.js shows on 19.52% and Nuxt.js on 8.07%, which is the Vue build of Headless UI. Vercel hosts 33.79%, Amazon Web Services 16.12% and Netlify 7.11%. Radix UI (12.8%), Framer Motion (11.3%) and shadcn/ui (8.4%) round out the component layer. WordPress appears on only 5.32%, while Sanity (4.38%) and Storyblok (1.28%) mark headless-CMS sites.
The Vue side deserves a closer look. npm shows @headlessui/vue's latest release, 1.7.23, on 9 September 2024, while @headlessui/react reached 2.2.10 on 7 April 2026. Up to a fifth of this base runs a package that hasn't shipped in over two years.
Sales Signal: For Vue tooling vendors and agencies, Headless UI plus Vue.js or Nuxt.js is a short, specific list of teams on a slow-moving dependency. For hosting and developer-tool vendors, the Vercel and Next.js overlap is the natural integration angle.
How to use this list
Filter Headless UI with Next.js or Nuxt.js to pick the framework you serve, then add a company size of 11-200 employees to get past solo builders; the 11-50 and 51-200 bands hold 32.52% of matched companies. Read the detection URL last: a main-domain hit suggests a company-wide front end, a subdomain hit one product team.
A workable opener: "I saw [surface] is built with Headless UI and Tailwind, which usually means your team owns its own component layer. Here is how [product] helps teams keep that layer consistent and accessible."

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses Headless UI?
Mostly small software and digital businesses that build with React or Vue and Tailwind CSS. We count 14,697 domains after removing for-sale landers, and 61.02% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff. Larger users include MSCI on its main site, DocuSign on its trial sign-up, Telkom in South Africa, Vertex Pharmaceuticals' clinical-trials finder and the International Rescue Committee's Airbel lab.
How many customers does Headless UI have?
Headless UI is free, so it has users rather than customers. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 14,697 live domains, 9,102 matched to a company, after removing 15,371 matches: 15,296 SvelteKit sites, nearly all Nameshift domain-for-sale landers built with a community Svelte port, and 75 other for-sale or gambling pages. Treat 14,697 as a floor.
What is Headless UI's market share?
0.11% of UI & CSS Frameworks on our cleaned count, #17 of 85 technologies, measured by domains. Our category table still uses the raw figure, which includes the for-sale landers, and puts it at #11 with 0.22%. Tailwind CSS, at 3,243,962 domains, is about 221 times larger, and it runs on 97.9% of Headless UI domains, so the two are partners more than rivals.
What are the best alternatives to Headless UI?
Radix UI is the closest: unstyled, accessible React primitives, on 647,067 domains in our data and alongside Headless UI on 12.8% of its domains. shadcn/ui offers styled components originally built on Radix. Adobe's React Aria and Base UI, from the creators of Radix, Material UI and Floating UI, are other headless choices. For ready-styled components, Material UI and Chakra UI are common.
Which countries use Headless UI the most?
The United States leads with 2,390 matched domains, followed by the United Kingdom (509), Germany (434), Australia (382), Canada (353), France (343) and India (341). These counts cover the 9,102 domains we matched to a company. English-speaking countries hold 3,823 of them in total, and the Netherlands (298), Brazil (225) and New Zealand (189) come next.
What size companies use Headless UI?
Small ones, mostly. 61.02% of matched companies with a size band have 1 to 10 employees, 24.08% have 11 to 50 and 8.44% have 51 to 200. Only 174 companies have more than 1,000 staff, and they usually run Headless UI on one product or campaign site, such as DocuSign's trial sign-up, rather than across every web property they own.
How old are companies that use Headless UI?
Among the Headless UI domains we could match to a company with a known founding date, the largest group was founded in the 2020s (39.14%), followed by the 2010s (35.62%). That matched subset is drawn from 9,102 companies and is not representative of all 14,697 detected domains. This suggests Headless UI is most popular among relatively young companies.
What is the ideal customer profile for Headless UI?
The ideal Headless UI customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (61.02%), Location: US, UK, Germany or Australia, Founded: 2010 or later (74.76%), Industry: Software and IT services, Front-end Stack: Tailwind CSS + Next.js — based on our analysis of 9,102 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.
What is meant by headless UI?
A headless UI component handles behaviour and accessibility, such as keyboard navigation, focus management and ARIA attributes, but ships no styling, so you supply the look. Headless UI, from Tailwind Labs, is one library of that kind: its site describes completely unstyled, fully accessible UI components designed to integrate with Tailwind CSS. Headless CMS and headless commerce are unrelated ideas.
What are the key differences between shadcn/ui and Headless UI?
Headless UI is an npm package of unstyled components from Tailwind Labs, for React and Vue, that you style yourself. shadcn/ui is a set of styled React components whose source you copy into your project, originally built on Radix UI and styled with Tailwind CSS. They overlap less than you might expect: shadcn/ui appears on 8.4% of Headless UI domains in our crawl.
Is Headless UI free?
Yes. Tailwind Labs publishes the Headless UI repository on GitHub under the MIT license, so @headlessui/react and @headlessui/vue can go into commercial projects at no cost, and the library itself has no paid tier. Across the 14,697 domains where TechnologyChecker.io detects Headless UI, the usual companion is Tailwind CSS, another free Tailwind Labs project, on 97.9% of them.
Should I use Headless UI or Radix UI?
Decide by framework and component needs. Headless UI covers React and Vue with a compact set: menus, dialogs, popovers, tabs, listboxes, comboboxes and form controls. Radix Primitives are React-only, with a separate community Vue port. Many teams use both: of 2,690 domains we've seen running the pair, 1,892 still run both, which looks like addition rather than switching.
Does Headless UI work with Vue?
Yes, through @headlessui/vue, though the Vue package has moved more slowly. npm shows its latest release, 1.7.23, on 9 September 2024, while @headlessui/react reached 2.2.10 on 7 April 2026. Vue.js runs on 19.52% of the domains where we detect Headless UI and Nuxt.js on 8.07%, so roughly a fifth of this base is a Vue build.
Is there a Svelte version of Headless UI?
Not from Tailwind Labs. A community project, svelte-headlessui, calls itself an unofficial, complete Svelte port that isn't affiliated with Tailwind Labs. Its components use the same headlessui- ids, so our rule matches them, and nearly all those matches were domain-for-sale landers on the Nameshift marketplace. That's why we removed 15,296 SvelteKit sites from the count.
Do you need Tailwind CSS to use Headless UI?
No. The components are unstyled, so any CSS approach works. In practice almost everyone pairs them: 97.9% of the 14,697 domains where we detect Headless UI also run Tailwind CSS, which leaves roughly 300 domains without it. Tailwind Labs makes both, and Headless UI's own site says the components are designed to integrate with Tailwind CSS.
How does TechnologyChecker.io detect Headless UI?
We look for button and div elements whose id starts with headlessui-, which Headless UI assigns to its components when they render. React builds create those ids in the browser, so we check rendered pages. A page whose dropdowns and dialogs render no such element won't be counted, so read 14,697 as a floor of domains with a Headless UI component.
Is Headless UI still maintained?
Yes, on the React side. @headlessui/react 2.2.10 shipped on 7 April 2026, according to npm, and the GitHub repository's latest push was on 13 April 2026. The Vue package hasn't had a release since 1.7.23 in September 2024, and headlessui.com still links its Vue documentation to the v1 docs. For Vue projects, that slower pace is worth weighing.
