Companies Using LaunchDarkly

Our crawl finds LaunchDarkly on 37,315 domains. That is 97.1% of the feature flag category, which sounds like total dominance and needs immediate qualification: the category holds only four tracked technologies and 38,428 domains in total. LaunchDarkly is not beating a crowded field, it is the only commercial option we can reliably detect.

We matched 27,002 domains to company records, a 72.4% match rate. The names are not the startups you might expect from a developer tool: Burger King, Subway, CVS, Sanofi, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Mayo Clinic, Sherwin-Williams and Edward Jones.

It is also the most American technology in this wave, with the United States at 80.62% of enriched domains and Australia a distant second on 7.97%.

LaunchDarkly Usage Statistics

LaunchDarkly appears in our history from February 2015 on two domains and stays tiny for years: six domains by January 2019, 1,176 by January 2022. Adoption only becomes meaningful from 2022 onward, reaching 6,131 by April 2025 in our long-run feed. The current live crawl records 37,315. Read the step between those two figures as a change in measurement coverage rather than a single year of growth, because the two numbers come from different systems and our newer crawl detects this technology far more thoroughly.

List of Companies Using LaunchDarkly

Our verified list of companies using LaunchDarkly on TechnologyChecker.io covers 27,002 domains matched to company records, out of 37,315 where we detect the platform. That is a 72.4% match rate. One caveat on data quality: 29.5% of active domains have been seen only once by our crawler, the highest rate in this wave, so a portion of the tail is intermittent rather than settled.

There are 37,315 companies and websites using LaunchDarkly, sign up to download the entire LaunchDarkly dataset.

Organisations running LaunchDarkly include Burger King, Subway, Sanofi, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Ascension, CVS, Sherwin-Williams, Mayo Clinic, Edward Jones and Coldwell Banker. Detection combines a DNS verification record set during account setup with runtime SDK signals on the page, so an entry means the domain is genuinely wired into a LaunchDarkly account.

Which Countries Use LaunchDarkly the Most?

Which countries use LaunchDarkly? The United States accounts for 80.62% of enriched domains, the highest national concentration in this wave. Australia is second on 7.97%, then Canada (3.39%), the United Kingdom (1.61%) and the Netherlands (0.96%). Developer tooling sold through US enterprise sales motions tends to look like this, with adoption following the vendor's own sales coverage rather than the distribution of software teams worldwide.

LaunchDarkly Market Share Among Feature Flags

What is LaunchDarkly's market share? It holds 97.1% of the feature flag category and ranks #1 of 4. Treat that number with care. The category contains just four detectable technologies totalling 38,428 domains, and its nearest rivals are FlagSmith (548 domains) and Beamer (543). Most feature flagging is built in-house or handled inside platforms we classify elsewhere, so this share describes a narrow slice rather than the whole practice.

LaunchDarkly Customers by Company Size & Age

47.69% of LaunchDarkly domains belong to companies with ten staff or fewer and 30.09% to companies with 11 to 50, from 27,002 enriched companies. That looks odd for a product associated with large engineering organisations, and the explanation is in the domains: enterprises run flags on campaign, brand and regional sites whose registered company record is a small subsidiary rather than the parent.

What Industries Use LaunchDarkly the Most?

Retail leads on 13.44%, then Motor Vehicle Manufacturing (8.56%), Real Estate (6.96%) and Hospitality (4.44%). Software development does not lead the list, which is the surprise. Feature flags started as an engineering practice and this distribution shows them arriving in consumer-facing businesses that release continuously, where turning a feature off quickly protects revenue rather than uptime.

Real Estate1,528 (6.96%)
Hospitality975 (4.44%)
Medical Practices959 (4.37%)

The company list makes the pattern concrete. Burger King, Subway, CVS, Sherwin-Williams, Coldwell Banker and Edward Jones are not software firms, they are large consumer brands with continuous release cycles on customer-facing properties. 16.23% of these companies were founded before 1960. Progressive delivery has moved well past its original audience of technology companies.

LaunchDarkly Alternatives & Competitors

There is barely a category here to compete in. LaunchDarkly holds 97.1% against FlagSmith on 1.43% (548 domains), Beamer on 1.41% and LaunchNotes on 0.06%. The real competition does not appear in this table at all: most teams either build their own flag system or use the capability bundled inside a deployment platform or experimentation tool, neither of which leaves a signature we can attribute here.

Expert Analysis: LaunchDarkly Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Emre Elbeyoglu
Emre ElbeyogluGrowth & AI Advisor, TechnologyChecker

LaunchDarkly holds 97.1% of its category. I want to spend most of this piece explaining why that number is true, technically meaningless as a measure of dominance, and still worth publishing.

What a 97% share actually describes

Our feature flag category contains four technologies. LaunchDarkly is on 37,315 domains. FlagSmith is on 548, Beamer on 543, LaunchNotes on 22. Total category size: 38,428 domains.

For comparison, the CMS category we measured for the Elementor profile holds 14.9 million domains across fifty tracked platforms. Email and webmail holds 8.27 million. Feature flags is roughly two tenths of one percent the size of either, and it is not because nobody uses feature flags.

It is because most feature flagging is invisible to any crawler. Teams build their own toggle systems, or use flags bundled inside a deployment platform, or evaluate them entirely server-side where no signature reaches the page. What we can detect is the subset that runs a commercial SDK in the browser or verifies a domain through DNS. LaunchDarkly dominates that subset almost completely, and that is a genuinely interesting fact about commercial feature flagging. It is not a fact about feature flagging.

A market share is only as meaningful as the denominator underneath it. Ours counts the tools that leave a trace, and in this category most of the practice leaves none.

We publish the 97.1% because it is what our data says, and we publish the category size next to it so nobody quotes the first number without the second.

The customer list is the real story

Here is what I did not expect. The largest organisations running LaunchDarkly are Burger King, Subway, Sanofi, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Ascension, CVS, Sherwin-Williams, Mayo Clinic, Edward Jones and Coldwell Banker.

Two software companies in that list, and eight consumer brands, hospitals, banks and a paint manufacturer.

The industry distribution confirms it rather than contradicting it. Retail leads on 13.44%, then motor vehicle manufacturing on 8.56%, real estate on 6.96% and hospitality on 4.44%. Software development does not top the list. And 16.23% of these companies were founded before 1960.

Feature flags began as an engineering discipline for shipping safely. This data shows the practice landing somewhere else entirely: large consumer-facing businesses that release continuously to a public audience, where the ability to switch a broken checkout or a mispriced promotion off in seconds protects revenue directly. That is a commercial control, not an engineering one, and it explains why the buyer looks like a retailer rather than a startup.

Reading the size distribution correctly

47.69% of LaunchDarkly domains belong to companies with ten employees or fewer. Taken at face value that says LaunchDarkly is a small-business tool, which contradicts everything above.

It is an artifact of the unit. We measure domains, and enterprises operate dozens of them: campaign microsites, regional storefronts, brand properties, franchise pages. Each resolves to whichever company record the registration points at, which is frequently a small subsidiary rather than the parent that signed the contract. The same effect showed up on the Venmo profile, where household-name brands appeared through their merchandise storefronts.

The lesson generalises: a size distribution built from domains measures the size of the entities that register domains, not the size of the entities that buy software. For a product sold top-down into enterprises, those two populations diverge sharply.

The most technically modern base in this wave

One number genuinely separates LaunchDarkly from the other five technologies we profiled this month. core-js appears on 90.96% of its domains, Google Tag Manager on 84.52%, Google Analytics on 82.32%, React on 27.89%.

Compare that with Font Awesome, where jQuery leads on 40.6% and the picture is of the conventional web. LaunchDarkly's domains run current build tooling, which is exactly what you would expect from teams doing progressive delivery. It is a useful cross-check: when a tool's co-occurrence profile matches the engineering practice it claims to support, the detection is probably measuring the right thing.

Where I would be cautious

29.5% of active LaunchDarkly domains have been seen only once by our crawler. The corpus norm is nearer 10 to 20%, and this is the highest rate in the wave. Part of that is inherent to the detection: an SDK that loads conditionally, or a flag evaluated server-side on most requests, will not register on every crawl of the site.

Publish the single-sighting rate alongside the count. A detection that appears once and vanishes is a weaker claim than one confirmed on every sweep, and readers deserve to know which they are looking at.

So I would treat the core of this dataset, the enterprise domains with DNS verification records, as solid, and the long tail of single-sighted small domains as provisional. We report both at TechnologyChecker.io rather than folding them into one confident-looking total.

My summary: LaunchDarkly is the clear commercial leader in browser-detectable feature flagging, its customer base is far more mainstream and far more American than its category suggests, and the 97.1% share is a statement about a small measurable slice rather than about the practice as a whole. Read the 37,315 and the 38,428 together, and the page tells you something true.

A note for anyone benchmarking against this page

If you are sizing the feature flag market, do not use our 38,428 domain figure as the denominator. It measures browser-detectable commercial tooling, which is a real thing worth measuring and a small fraction of the practice.

The useful version of this data is the identified customer list rather than the share. 27,002 companies with industry, headcount, country and founding year attached, weighted toward US retail, automotive and healthcare brands, is a segment you can act on. The 97.1% is a headline that needs its denominator printed beside it every time it is quoted, which is why we have printed it here twice.

One further caveat on the DNS signal. A verification record persists until somebody removes it, so it outlives the account that created it. That makes it excellent evidence of a relationship having existed and weaker evidence that the relationship is current, which is another reason to read the runtime signals and the DNS signal together rather than treating either as the whole answer.

Which countries use LaunchDarkly the most?

United States leads with 21,489 LaunchDarkly customers, followed by Australia (2,125), Canada (903), United Kingdom (429), Netherlands (255), based on our enriched company data at TechnologyChecker.io.

What size companies use LaunchDarkly?

The most common company size is 1-10 employees, representing 47.69% of LaunchDarkly customers, based on our analysis of 27,002 enriched companies. This is followed by 11-50 employees (30.09%) and 51-200 employees (13.85%).

How old are companies that use LaunchDarkly?

The majority of LaunchDarkly customers were founded in the 2010s (28.33%), followed by the Pre-1960 (16.23%), based on our analysis of 27,002 enriched companies. This suggests LaunchDarkly is most popular among relatively young companies.

What is the ideal customer profile for LaunchDarkly?

The ideal LaunchDarkly customer is: Company Size: 1-50 employees, Location: United States, Industry: Retail, automotive, real estate, Founded: 2010-2019, Stack: Modern JavaScript — based on our analysis of 27,002 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

How many companies use LaunchDarkly?

Our crawl detects LaunchDarkly on 37,315 domains as of August 2026, and we matched 27,002 of them to company records for a 72.4% match rate. Detection combines a DNS verification record created during account setup with runtime SDK signals in the page, so a listed domain is genuinely connected to an account.

Is LaunchDarkly really 97% of the feature flag market?

It is 97.1% of the feature flag category we track, but that category is small and the figure needs context. It contains only four detectable technologies and 38,428 domains in total, with FlagSmith on 548 domains and Beamer on 543. Most feature flagging is built in-house and leaves no detectable signature at all.

What kind of companies use LaunchDarkly?

Large consumer brands more than software firms. Retail leads the industry mix on 13.44%, then motor vehicle manufacturing on 8.56%, real estate 6.96% and hospitality 4.44%. Burger King, Subway, CVS, Sherwin-Williams and Edward Jones all appear, which is not the audience most people associate with a developer tool. Only two of the ten largest detected organisations are software companies.

Why do small companies dominate the LaunchDarkly size data?

Because the unit of detection is a domain, not a corporation. 47.69% of domains map to companies with ten staff or fewer, but enterprises frequently run flags on campaign, brand and regional sites whose registered company record is a small subsidiary rather than the parent organisation that actually holds the contract.

How does TechnologyChecker.io detect LaunchDarkly?

Through four signals. There is a DNS TXT verification record set when a domain is added to an account, a stylesheet or link reference to a LaunchDarkly host, a JavaScript global exposed by the client SDK, and matching script sources. The DNS record is the strongest of these because it implies an actual account relationship.

How reliable is the LaunchDarkly detection count?

Reasonably, with one caveat we publish openly. 29.5% of active LaunchDarkly domains have been seen only once by our crawler, the highest single-sighting rate in this wave, against a corpus norm nearer 10 to 20%. The core of the dataset is solid, but expect some churn in the long tail of small domains.

What do LaunchDarkly customers have in common technically?

They run modern JavaScript. core-js appears on 90.96% of sampled domains, Google Tag Manager on 84.52%, Google Analytics on 82.32% and React on 27.89%. Those co-occurrence rates are far higher than the other technologies in this wave produce, indicating current build tooling rather than inherited themes or templates. Compare that with Font Awesome, where jQuery leads on 40.6% and the stack looks a generation older.

What are the alternatives to LaunchDarkly?

In our data, almost nothing at comparable scale. FlagSmith appears on 548 domains and Beamer on 543, against LaunchDarkly's 37,315. The genuine alternatives are invisible to detection: teams building their own flag systems, or using flagging bundled inside a deployment platform or an experimentation tool we classify in another category.

When did LaunchDarkly adoption take off?

Later than the company's founding suggests. Our history records two domains in February 2015 and only six by January 2019. Growth becomes meaningful from 2022, reaching 1,176 domains that January and 6,131 by April 2025 in our long-run feed. The current live crawl, a different measurement system, records 37,315. Read the step between those two figures as changed coverage, not one year of growth.

Do old companies use LaunchDarkly?

More than you would expect for a developer tool. 16.23% of enriched LaunchDarkly customers were founded before 1960, alongside 15.26% founded in the 2000s and 28.33% in the 2010s. Progressive delivery has clearly spread beyond technology companies into established consumer brands with continuous release cycles. The largest detected organisations include Burger King, Subway, CVS, Sherwin-Williams and Mayo Clinic, none of which are technology firms.

Why is there no switching data on this page?

Because there is nothing meaningful to report. LaunchDarkly's category rivals are so small, at 548 and 543 domains against its 37,315, that no in-category switching flow reached a volume we would publish. Rather than present a table built on a handful of domains, we leave the section out entirely. A table built on a handful of domains would imply a precision the underlying data cannot support.

How many companies have dropped LaunchDarkly?

We have observed 6,613 domains stop showing LaunchDarkly signals since our crawler began covering it in April 2026. Some of that is genuine churn and some reflects the intermittent detection noted above, since a domain whose SDK loads conditionally may not register on every crawl of the site. Against 37,315 active domains, that is churn observed across a few months rather than a lifetime total.

Can I get a list of companies using LaunchDarkly?

Yes. This page ranks the largest by audience size, and TechnologyChecker.io holds the full set of 37,315 detected domains with company records attached to 27,002 of them. Those rows carry industry, headcount band, country and founding year, which is enough to filter down to a specific enterprise segment. The DNS-verified subset is the most reliable segment to filter on.
