Companies Using Turbopack

Turbopack is the Rust bundler built into Next.js, and our October 2026 crawl finds its production bundles on 345,255 live domains. Almost every one is a Next.js site: when we checked on 8 October, 344,118 of 344,784 Turbopack domains also ran Next.js. Below is the list of companies that use Turbopack, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes IBM's developer portal, Visa's US site, Penn State and TUI Group.

What moved is the share. In June, 24.9% of the Next.js domains we track carried a Turbopack build (135,563 of 544,460). By October it was 38.21% (345,255 of 903,683). Next.js 16 made Turbopack its default bundler in October 2025, so teams pick it up when they upgrade. It ranks 3rd in Developer Tooling with 18.84% of the category, behind Webpack and Babel.

Turbopack Usage Statistics

Turbopack reads 135,563 domains in June 2026, 205,575 in July, 241,375 in August, 313,749 in September and 345,255 in October. Some of that climb is ours. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection widens over time. Next.js grew on the same crawl, from 544,460 domains to 903,683, so the fairer test is the share: Turbopack went from 24.9% of Next.js domains in June to 38.21% in October. Coverage changes would move both lines; they don't explain Turbopack gaining on Next.js. Since we began tracking it in March 2026, 21,640 domains have had Turbopack drop off at least one hostname, about 2,700 of which still run it on another.

List of Companies Using Turbopack

Who uses Turbopack? This list of companies that use Turbopack names 50 of the 191,577 matched companies, ranked by LinkedIn following. We opened every row in October 2026: 40 showed a Turbopack chunk in the page source or in a browser, and the other 10 sat behind bot walls, didn't load or served us a different regional page. At large companies the Turbopack customer is usually one web team, such as PwC's alumni network, United Airlines' MileagePlus car-rental deals or Mercedes-Benz's museum ticket shop.

Turbopack Market Share Among Developer Tooling

What is Turbopack's market share? 18.84% of Developer Tooling, 3rd in the category, on 345,255 domains in our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. Webpack leads with 699,804 domains (38.18%) and Babel has 379,086 (20.68%). A site can show more than one of these tools, so the shares measure presence rather than splitting one market. Turbopack is 33,831 domains behind Babel, close enough for the order to change on a monthly refresh. Vite (5.2%) and parcel (2.08%) are well below it.

Turbopack Customers by Company Size & Age

What size companies use Turbopack? Mostly small ones. 61.63% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 24.21% have 11 to 50. At the other end, 3,048 companies have more than 1,000 staff (1,940 with 1,001 to 5,000, 430 with 5,001 to 10,000 and 678 above that), and at those the Turbopack build is usually one team's site: SAP's and Uber's careers sites, IBM's developer portal, NVIDIA's build.nvidia.com. Visa, Takeda and Burlington run it on their main sites.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

40.6% of matched companies were founded in the 2020s and 36.77% in the 2010s, so 77.37% date from 2010 or later. That fits a bundler that only became the Next.js default in late 2025: young companies start on the newest release. Only 2.28% predate 1960, a tail that includes Takeda (1781), Penn State (1855) and IBM (1911).

What Industries Use Turbopack the Most?

Software Development leads at 9.36%, then IT Services and IT Consulting (8.11%) and Technology, Information and Internet (6.71%), based on our enriched company data. Those three add up to 24.18%. The rest is spread thin: Financial Services 3.28%, Business Consulting 3.09%, Advertising Services (LinkedIn's label for agencies) 3.09%, Real Estate 2.71%. About three in four matched companies sit outside the three tech labels, so the web team behind a Turbopack site often works at a bank, an agency or a property firm.

Turbopack Alternatives & Competitors

Webpack and Babel lead this table, and on Turbopack's own sites they're mostly what came before. 5,797 domains that now carry a Turbopack build dropped the Webpack runtime since March 2026, against 341 that went back. Vite, on 95,246 domains (5.2%), is the alternative that means leaving Next.js, since Next.js doesn't build with it. 431 domains swapped a Vite build for Turbopack and 61 went the other way. parcel (2.08%) appears in 154 switches to Turbopack and 14 away.

Turbopack Customer Migration

Since March 2026, 5,797 Turbopack domains dropped Webpack, 1,818 of them in the last 30 days. Almost all are Next.js projects changing a build setting, usually while upgrading to Next.js 16: same framework, same team. 999 of those domains still serve a Webpack build on another hostname. The 341 going back are most likely teams using the --webpack flag, or a redeploy we caught on the older build. The Babel rows (1,140 in, 79 out) follow from the same flip, because Turbopack builds don't ship Babel's helpers. Vite's 431 is the one row that implies a rebuild, from a Vite app to Next.js.

Expert Analysis: Turbopack Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

I'm David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io, and I maintain the detection rules behind this page. Our Turbopack rule is short. It looks for the global that Turbopack's production bundles register in the browser, so it sees what a site shipped to production, not how its developers run their dev server. Our October 2026 crawl finds that global on 345,255 live domains, 191,577 of them matched to a company record. When we checked on 8 October, 344,118 of 344,784 Turbopack domains also ran Next.js. So read every number below as Next.js sites that build with Turbopack.

Measured against Next.js

The raw line climbs fast: 135,563 domains in June, 205,575 in July, 241,375 in August, 313,749 in September and 345,255 in October. Some of that is our side. The domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection widens over time. Next.js's own count grew on the same crawl, from 544,460 to 903,683, and that gives a fair yardstick. Turbopack's share of Next.js domains went from 24.9% in June to 38.21% in October, and it rose in every month in between. Changes in coverage lift both lines. They don't explain one line gaining on the other.

The timing fits the release history. Next.js 15.5 put Turbopack production builds into beta in August 2025, and Next.js 16, released on 21 October 2025, made Turbopack the default bundler for development and production. A team gets it by upgrading and changing nothing else.

"Turbopack arrives with a Next.js upgrade, and upgrades happen across thousands of sites a month. That's why its share of Next.js sites went from about a quarter to 38% in four months." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: a Turbopack detection tells you a Next.js site was built on a recent release, most likely version 16. The other 61.79% of Next.js domains don't show a Turbopack build. Most are on an older release or have kept Webpack, and that is the list for upgrade and migration work.

Who the customers are

61.63% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 24.21% have 11 to 50. 40.6% were founded in the 2020s, which is what you'd expect when new companies start on the newest framework release. The top of the list is broad, though: 3,048 companies have more than 1,000 staff. At those, the Turbopack build usually belongs to one site and one team. SAP and Uber run it on their careers sites, IBM on developer.ibm.com, NVIDIA on build.nvidia.com, PwC on its alumni network and Mercedes-Benz on its museum ticket shop. Visa's US site, Takeda, TUI Group and Burlington run it on their main domains, and so does the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on www.va.gov.

Sales signal: at a large account, find the team that owns the Next.js property. A careers site or a developer portal has a different owner, budget and agency from the corporate homepage.

Where they are and what they do

The United States leads with 46,734 matched companies, then India (16,552), the United Kingdom (10,767), Brazil (9,552) and Germany (7,859). It's the same order as our Next.js profile, India in second place included. By industry, Software Development (9.36%), IT Services and IT Consulting (8.11%) and Technology, Information and Internet (6.71%) add up to 24.18%. The rest is spread thin: Financial Services 3.28%, Business Consulting 3.09%, Advertising Services 3.09% and Real Estate 2.71%. Advertising Services is LinkedIn's label for agencies, and it's as large here as Business Consulting.

Sales signal: India and Brazil hold 26,104 matched companies between them, more than the United Kingdom and Germany combined (18,626). A Next.js services pitch aimed at Indian or Brazilian companies reaches a bigger slice of this list than one aimed at Germany.

The Webpack "migration" is a build flag

Our switching table says 5,797 domains dropped Webpack and kept Turbopack since March 2026, 1,818 of them in the last 30 days and 4,649 in the last 90. Webpack and Turbopack are both bundlers inside the same Next.js project, so this is a build setting changing, and Next.js 16 changes it by default. 999 of those domains still serve a Webpack build on another hostname, so the move often happens one site at a time. The reverse flow is small: 341 domains dropped Turbopack and run Webpack, which is what the --webpack flag does, or a redeploy we caught on the older build. The Babel rows (1,140 in, 79 out) are a side effect, because Turbopack builds don't ship Babel's helper code.

The one row that implies a rebuild is Vite. 431 domains dropped a Vite build and now run Turbopack, and 61 went the other way. That's a change of framework rather than a setting, and it runs about seven to one toward Next.js. It's also small next to Vite's 95,246 domains.

"Webpack to Turbopack is the biggest flow in this table and the least interesting one commercially. Nobody chose a new vendor. A Next.js team ran an upgrade." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: a domain that moved in the last 30 days has just been through an upgrade, which is a good moment for a performance audit or a hosting review. Turbopack doesn't run webpack plugins, so a vendor whose Next.js integration is a webpack plugin should check how its customers build now.

The stack: Tailwind nearly everywhere, Vercel on half

The percentages here are of the 348,542 live Turbopack domains in our clean set. Tailwind CSS is on 84.73%, Radix UI on 29.44% and shadcn/ui on 18.46%. Hosting is split. Vercel serves 49.91%, Amazon Web Services 10.9%, Netlify 2.69%, Firebase 2.43% and Supabase 2.09%. Google Analytics runs on 41.39%, Vercel Analytics on 14.38% and Cloudflare Browser Insights on 12.22%. Few of these sites show a CMS: Sanity, the largest, is on 3.8%, just ahead of WordPress at 3.57%.

Sales signal: half this list hosts somewhere other than Vercel, a ready audience for other hosts and for CDN vendors. For component and design-system vendors, the Radix UI and shadcn/ui shares show who has already standardised and who hasn't.

What it costs

Nothing directly. Turbopack lives in the Next.js repository, which is released under the MIT licence, and Vercel, which makes both, sells hosting rather than the bundler. The money around a Turbopack site goes to hosting, analytics and whoever builds it.

Sales signal: with no licence fee there's no renewal date to work around. The buying moments are a framework upgrade and a hosting review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Turbopack?

Teams running Next.js, almost without exception: 344,118 of 344,784 Turbopack domains also ran Next.js when we checked on 8 October 2026. Our October crawl finds Turbopack on 345,255 live domains. 61.63% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff and 3,048 have more than 1,000, including IBM, SAP, Uber, Visa and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

How many customers does Turbopack have?

Turbopack has no paying customers as such, because it ships free inside Next.js. Our October 2026 crawl finds Turbopack production builds on 345,255 live domains, and 191,577 of them match a company record, so count them as domains rather than companies. Since March 2026, 21,640 domains have had it drop off at least one hostname, about 2,700 of which still run it elsewhere.

What is Turbopack's market share?

18.84% of Developer Tooling, 3rd in the category, on 345,255 domains in our October 2026 crawl. Webpack leads with 38.18% (699,804 domains) and Babel follows with 20.68% (379,086). Vite has 5.2%. A site can show more than one of these tools, so read the shares as presence. Turbopack is 33,831 domains behind Babel, so the order can change.

What are the best alternatives to Turbopack?

Inside Next.js the only alternative is Webpack, which you get back with the --webpack flag. 341 Turbopack domains did that since March 2026, against 5,797 that moved off Webpack. Outside Next.js, Vite is the main choice, on 95,246 domains in our crawl, but picking it means leaving Next.js, because Next.js doesn't build with Vite. parcel has 38,176 domains.

Which countries use Turbopack the most?

The United States, with 46,734 matched companies, then India (16,552), the United Kingdom (10,767), Brazil (9,552), Germany (7,859), Canada (5,996) and Australia (5,919). That's the same order as on our Next.js profile, with India second. These counts cover the 191,577 Turbopack domains we matched to a company in our October 2026 crawl, so they describe companies with a LinkedIn record.

What size companies use Turbopack?

Mostly small ones. 61.63% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 24.21% have 11 to 50, so 85.84% have 50 staff or fewer. 3,048 have more than 1,000, and at those the Turbopack build usually belongs to one site, such as SAP's careers site, IBM's developer portal or Mercedes-Benz's museum ticket shop.

How old are companies that use Turbopack?

Young. 40.6% of matched companies with a known founding year were founded in the 2020s and 36.77% in the 2010s, so 77.37% date from 2010 or later. Only 2.28% predate 1960. New companies tend to start on the newest Next.js release, and Turbopack has been its default bundler since Next.js 16 shipped in October 2025.

What is the ideal customer profile for Turbopack?

The ideal Turbopack customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (61.63%), Location: United States, then India, UK and Brazil, Founded: 2020s (40.6%), then 2010s, Industry: Software, IT services and internet, Site stack: Next.js and Tailwind CSS, half on Vercel — based on our analysis of 191,577 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What is Turbopack used for?

Turbopack bundles the JavaScript, TypeScript and CSS of a Next.js app, for the dev server and, since Next.js 16, for production builds. Next.js's documentation describes it as an incremental bundler written in Rust and built into Next.js. On the live web it shows up as the production bundles of Next.js sites: 345,255 domains in our October 2026 crawl.

What are the key differences between Webpack and Turbopack?

Turbopack is written in Rust, is built into Next.js and has been its default bundler since version 16. Webpack is a general-purpose bundler with a large plugin system. Next.js's docs say Turbopack supports webpack loaders but not webpack plugins, and may order CSS differently. In our crawl, 5,797 Turbopack domains dropped Webpack since March 2026, and 341 went back.

Is Turbopack production ready?

Next.js says it is. Turbopack production builds went into beta in Next.js 15.5 in August 2025, and Next.js 16, released on 21 October 2025, made them stable and the default. Our October 2026 crawl finds Turbopack production bundles on 345,255 live domains, including Visa's US site, www.va.gov and Burlington's online store.

How do I disable Turbopack in Next.js 16?

Run next dev --webpack and next build --webpack. Next.js's Turbopack documentation gives that flag as the opt-out, for example for apps that depend on webpack plugins, which Turbopack doesn't support. Few sites take it. Since March 2026, 341 domains in our crawl dropped Turbopack and now serve a Webpack build, against 5,797 that went the other way.

Is Webpack still relevant in 2026?

By count, yes. Webpack is still the largest tool in our Developer Tooling table, on 699,804 domains (38.18%) in October 2026, about twice Turbopack's 345,255. Inside Next.js it's losing ground: 5,797 Turbopack domains dropped Webpack since March 2026, against 341 moving back, and Next.js 16 builds with Turbopack unless you pass the --webpack flag.

Is Turbopack free?

Yes. Turbopack lives in the Next.js repository, which is released under the MIT licence, so there's no Turbopack bill. The costs sit around it, in hosting and analytics. Vercel, which makes both Next.js and Turbopack, hosts 49.91% of live Turbopack domains in our crawl, Amazon Web Services 10.9%, and Vercel Analytics runs on 14.38%.

Can Turbopack be used outside Next.js?

Next.js's documentation describes Turbopack as built into Next.js and doesn't document a standalone release, and our crawl matches that. When we checked on 8 October 2026, 344,118 of 344,784 Turbopack domains also ran Next.js, 99.81%. We haven't examined the remaining 666 one by one, so treat Turbopack as a Next.js signal.
