Companies Using Babel

Our October 2026 crawl finds Babel's polyfill on 379,086 live domains. Babel is a free, MIT-licensed JavaScript compiler, and our rule reads _babelPolyfill, the flag that @babel/polyfill sets when it loads. Babel deprecated that package in version 7.4.0, so this is a count of sites still shipping it, a floor for Babel's footprint rather than every site compiled with Babel. Below is the list of companies that use Babel this way, including Bank of America's homeloanhelp site, Bosch's product-security portal and Novo Nordisk's main site.

Most of the count arrives inside platforms. Weebly runs on 30.86% of Babel domains, and in a random sample, Weebly's own site script set the flag on 20 of the 42 pages where we found it. The Shopify stores in that sample got it from a Shopify-hosted script called shopify-xr, and Shopify runs on 12.62% of the base. Gambling apps on numeric domain names, which bundle it themselves, are at least 3.8% of the count (13,810 domains). Babel ranks #2 in Developer Tooling with a 20.68% share, behind Webpack.

Babel Usage Statistics

Our current crawl counts 305,348 Babel polyfill domains in June 2026 and 379,086 in October 2026. More than half of that change is one step, 37,808 domains into July, followed by rises of 6,218, 10,087 and 19,625. Counts are not a like-for-like series over time: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. The July step reflects changes on our side, both the domains we cover and the signals we detect Babel with, rather than new adoption of a package Babel deprecated in version 7.4.0.

Exits are mostly real. 91,566 domains have dropped the polyfill on at least one hostname since we began tracking it in March 2026. When we rechecked on 13 October, 8,814 of 91,673 such domains (9.6%) still ran it on another hostname.

List of Companies Using Babel

Our list of companies using Babel covers 211,242 organisations matched to domains carrying the polyfill. Every size, industry and country figure on this page describes that set.

Among the named brands that use Babel, 37 of 50 were detected on a subdomain, and 10 of those are careers sites. Five of them, jobs.ericsson.com, careers.elcompanies.com, jobs.worley.com, jobs.amdocs.com and careers.micron.com, load the polyfill from the same bundle file, so a careers-site vendor put it there. When you review websites using Babel at a large company, check which surface carries it before you assume the company's own developers chose it.

Which Countries Use Babel the Most?

Which countries use Babel the most? The United States leads with 84,316 of 211,242 matched companies (39.91%), well ahead of the United Kingdom (17,131) and Germany (9,349). Australia (8,415) and Canada (8,339) are close behind. English-speaking countries account for 55.96% of matched companies, a tilt that follows small-business site builders more than where JavaScript developers work, based on our enriched company data.

Babel Market Share Among Developer Tooling

What is Babel's market share? Babel holds 20.68% of the Developer Tooling category and ranks #2, behind Webpack (699,804 domains, 38.18%) and ahead of Turbopack (345,255, 18.84%), based on our crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The rows aren't like for like. Babel compiles JavaScript while the others bundle it, and one site can show both. Our Babel figure is also a floor, because it only sees the deprecated polyfill.

Babel Customers by Company Size & Age

Is Babel only used by small businesses? By count, mostly. 69.03% of matched companies have 1-10 employees and 88.35% have 50 or fewer, out of 189,045 with a size band. Above 1,000 employees there are still 3,121 companies, and in our named list most of them load the polyfill from their own bundles: Bank of America on homeloanhelp.bankofamerica.com, Bosch on psirt.bosch.com and Novo Nordisk on its main site.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

Of the 86,836 matched companies with a founding year, 42.38% were founded in the 2010s, 18.84% in the 2000s and only 12.83% in the 2020s. That's an older base than the Gutenberg plugin's, where 33.14% date from the 2020s, and it fits a polyfill Babel deprecated in version 7.4.0: sites built more recently rarely ship it.

What Industries Use Babel the Most?

Retail leads at 5.06%, followed by Construction (3.81%) and Medical Practices (2.91%). The ten industries charted add up to 28.79% and Software Development is 2.03%, so the polyfill sits mainly with local and small businesses, based on our enriched company data.

Retail8,561 (5.06%)
Construction6,445 (3.81%)
Medical Practices4,920 (2.91%)
Business Consulting and Services4,879 (2.89%)
Real Estate4,842 (2.86%)
Individual and Family Services4,312 (2.55%)

Medical practices using Babel (2.91%) and real estate companies using Babel (2.86%) sit near the top, beside Individual and Family Services (2.55%) and Hospitality (2.38%). In our random sample most small sites got the polyfill from a site builder or a widget, so for these businesses it says more about the platform than about their developers. Banks and insurers using Babel look different: Bank of America and Deutsche Bank carry it in their own site code, Progressive on its account login and Nationwide on its agency locator.

Babel Alternatives & Competitors

Read this table as neighbours in the build chain rather than rivals. Webpack (38.18%) bundles modules and often runs Babel inside it through a loader, and 48,233 domains run Babel's polyfill and Webpack output today. Turbopack (18.84%) is mostly Next.js builds, and Vite (5.2%) and Parcel (2.08%) are bundlers too. Babel's like-for-like alternatives are other JavaScript compilers, such as TypeScript's own compiler, SWC and esbuild.

Expert Analysis: Babel Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Mehmet Suleyman
Mehmet SuleymanCEO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

Babel does its work before code ships, so almost none of its use shows up on a live page. What a browser can see is the runtime polyfill Babel used to provide, and that is what I counted. As of our October 2026 crawl, TechnologyChecker.io finds it on 379,086 live domains, with 211,242 organisations matched to a company record. Read every number below as a count of sites still shipping an old polyfill, not of teams using Babel today.

What the signal catches

Our rule checks for _babelPolyfill, a global flag set when @babel/polyfill (or babel-polyfill before it) loads. Babel's documentation says the package has been deprecated since Babel 7.4.0 in favour of core-js/stable, and babeljs.io now announces Babel 8.0.0. The code still out there is old. On the 73 company pages where we confirmed the flag in a browser, every one reported core-js 2.x, and 44 reported 2.6.12. Our core-js rule reads the same flag, which is why core-js shows on 100% of these domains.

Who put the polyfill on the page

We took a random sample of 50 live Babel domains and traced the script that set the flag on the 42 pages carrying it. 20 got it from Weebly's own site script, served from editmysite.com. Four Shopify stores got it from shopify-xr, a script Shopify hosts on the store's own domain. Two WordPress sites loaded it through WordPress's bundled wp-polyfill file at version 7.4.4, two BaseKit sites through the builder's runtime, and five through third-party widgets such as a newsletter form and a review badge. Only three served it from their own site's files. The other six were gambling apps on numeric domain names.

The full base shows the same carriers. Weebly runs on 30.86% of the domains in our stack analysis, WordPress on 21.93%, Shopify on 12.62%, BaseKit on 2.86% and Strikingly on 2.17%. Duda, a suspected carrier, covers only 4,056 domains (1.1%). The gambling cluster is harder to size: domains with numeric names or the template title "Welcome" add up to 13,810 (3.8%), and a 400-domain title sample put all gambling apps at 25 (6.25%).

Sales Signal: Remove the platform carriers before you prospect. A Weebly or Shopify domain tells you the platform shipped an old polyfill; it says nothing about the owner's developers.

Growth trajectory

Our current crawl counts 305,348 domains in June 2026, 343,156 in July, 349,374 in August, 359,461 in September and 379,086 in October. Counts are not a like-for-like series over time: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. The 37,808-domain step into July reflects changes on our side, both the domains we cover and the signals we detect Babel with, rather than a surge in adoption. Nobody is adopting a package deprecated at 7.4.0.

Exits are easier to read. 91,566 domains have dropped the polyfill on at least one hostname since we began tracking it in March 2026, and when we rechecked on 13 October only 8,814 of 91,673 (9.6%) still ran it on another hostname. A site loses this flag when it rebuilds, changes platform or dies.

"Babel's real footprint is invisible to a crawler. What we can count is the polyfill it stopped recommending, and a third of that sits inside one site builder's runtime." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: Treat this as a legacy base that shrinks one rebuild at a time. The 91,566 exits mark sites that changed something; a fresh rebuild is a good moment to sell hosting, analytics or agency work.

The companies behind the domains

69.03% of matched companies with a size band have 1-10 employees and 88.35% have 50 or fewer. Founding years lean older than on the Gutenberg plugin's page: 42.38% in the 2010s and only 12.83% in the 2020s, against 33.14% from the 2020s there. There are 3,121 companies above 1,000 staff, and the named list behaves differently from the random sample. Most large companies load the polyfill from their own bundles: Bank of America's homeloanhelp site, Bosch's PSIRT portal, Novo Nordisk's main site, Deutsche Bank's corporates site and Randstad's theme script. Careers sites are the exception. 37 of the 50 named detections are subdomains, ten are careers sites, and five of those load the identical bundle file. Babel publishes no customer list, so there was nothing vendor-side to cross-check.

Sales Signal: At an enterprise, a polyfill in the company's own bundle points to a web team maintaining an older front end, a fair opening for modernisation or performance work. A careers-site hit points to the HR technology vendor instead.

Industry and geographic concentration

Retail leads at 5.06%, Construction follows at 3.81% and Medical Practices at 2.91%. Software Development, the industry you'd expect for a developer tool, is 2.03%. The United States has 84,316 matched companies, 39.91% of the base, and the United Kingdom 17,131. Germany (9,349), Australia (8,415) and Canada (8,339) are bunched behind. English-speaking countries account for 55.96%, against 46.87% on the Gutenberg plugin's page, which fits the weight of US small-business builders.

Sales Signal: For local-services software, filter Babel plus Weebly plus the US or UK. That isolates small businesses on an older builder whose sites haven't been rebuilt.

Why there is no migration table

We tested switching corridors and published none. A polyfill doesn't get swapped for a rival product; it disappears when a site is rebuilt. The overlaps confirm it. Webpack runs today on 48,233 of the 56,675 domains where we've seen both, Parcel on 3,313 of 4,443, Turbopack on 1,293 of 2,435 and Vite on 276 of 588. Those are tools in the same build chain.

"There's no migration away from a polyfill. It leaves with the old build, usually when a platform ships a new runtime or the owner rebuilds the site." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales Signal: If you sell build tooling, your buyers are platform vendors such as Weebly and the careers-site providers, not the hundreds of thousands of domains they serve.

Technology ecosystem

Across the 364,858 domains in our stack analysis, jQuery runs on 82.07%, Lodash on 56.42%, Underscore.js on 54.2% and FancyBox on 37.96%. Mustache (32.17%) and Snowplow Analytics (29.26%) ride with Weebly, on 99.7% and 89.3% of its Babel domains. React (8.34%) and Vue.js (8.2%) are thin, and Google Analytics is on 63.94%.

Sales Signal: This is a jQuery-era list. Pitch site rebuilds, performance audits and platform moves; modern framework tooling has little to work with here.

Key takeaways

  1. 379,086 live domains still ship Babel's deprecated polyfill; modern Babel builds aren't counted.

Sales applications

For targeting, filter Babel on TechnologyChecker.io, remove Weebly, Shopify and WordPress sites, and keep companies with 200+ employees; what remains are teams maintaining their own older front end. For outreach to them, be specific: "Your site still ships @babel/polyfill, which Babel deprecated at 7.4.0. We cut legacy polyfills without a redesign." For competitive work, track the platforms: when Weebly or a careers vendor updates its runtime, thousands of domains will drop off this list together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Babel?

Mostly small sites on site builders. 69.03% of matched companies have 1-10 employees, and Weebly runs on 30.86% of Babel polyfill domains. Larger names carry it in their own bundles: Bank of America on homeloanhelp.bankofamerica.com, Bosch on psirt.bosch.com and Novo Nordisk on its main site. Retail is the largest industry, at 5.06% of matched companies in our data.

How many customers does Babel have?

None in the paying sense, because Babel is free and MIT-licensed. Our October 2026 crawl finds its polyfill on 379,086 live domains, and 211,242 organisations match a company record. That's a floor, since our rule only sees the deprecated @babel/polyfill. Since March 2026, 91,566 domains have dropped it on a hostname, and 9.6% of those still run it elsewhere.

What is Babel's market share?

Babel holds 20.68% of the Developer Tooling category on TechnologyChecker.io and ranks #2, behind Webpack at 38.18% and ahead of Turbopack at 18.84%. The table mixes a compiler with bundlers, and our Babel figure counts only sites shipping the deprecated polyfill, so modern Babel builds are missing. Read the share as a footprint of older builds; Babel's full reach is larger.

What are the best alternatives to Babel?

For compiling, the usual alternatives are TypeScript's own compiler, SWC and esbuild. For polyfills, Babel itself recommends importing core-js/stable directly instead of @babel/polyfill. Our category table puts Babel beside bundlers instead: Webpack (38.18%), Turbopack (18.84%), Vite (5.2%) and Parcel (2.08%). Those work with Babel more than against it; 48,233 domains run Babel's polyfill and Webpack output together.

Which countries use Babel the most?

The United States leads with 84,316 matched companies, 39.91% of the 211,242 we matched. The United Kingdom (17,131), Germany (9,349), Australia (8,415) and Canada (8,339) follow. English-speaking countries make up 55.96% of the matched base, a stronger tilt than a developer tool's audience would suggest, because so much of the count comes through small-business site builders.

What size companies use Babel?

Mostly small ones. 69.03% of matched companies with a size band have 1-10 employees and 88.35% have 50 or fewer. There are 3,121 companies above 1,000 employees. Among the large companies we named, most load the polyfill from their own site bundles, though careers sites often get it from a careers-site vendor's shared script, so check the surface first.

How old are companies that use Babel?

Established more often than new. Of the 86,836 matched companies with a founding year, 42.38% were founded in the 2010s and 18.84% in the 2000s, while only 12.83% date from the 2020s. That fits a deprecated polyfill: sites built recently rarely ship it, so the base leans toward businesses whose websites date from the last decade.

What is the ideal customer profile for Babel?

A typical Babel polyfill site belongs to a 1-10 person business (69.03%) founded in the 2010s (42.38%), based in the US or UK, in retail, construction or medical practice, and built on Weebly, WordPress or Shopify. For enterprise prospecting, filter for companies loading it from their own domain: those teams have a front-end codebase that still ships a legacy polyfill.

What is Babel used for?

Babel compiles modern JavaScript into code older browsers can run. Its polyfill package went further and added missing built-ins such as Promise and WeakMap at runtime, but Babel deprecated it in version 7.4.0 in favour of core-js/stable. Our 379,086-domain count measures sites that still ship that polyfill, not every site compiled with Babel, which leaves no trace we can read.

Is Babel a compiler or transpiler?

Both words fit. Babel's own homepage calls it a JavaScript compiler, and because it turns one version of JavaScript into another rather than into machine code, many developers call it a transpiler. For our data the label doesn't matter: we detect the polyfill Babel used to ship, which still runs in the browser on 379,086 live domains in our October 2026 crawl.

Who owns Babel?

No company owns Babel. It's an open-source project under the MIT License, which names Sebastian McKenzie and other contributors as copyright holders, and its website says a small group of volunteers maintains it with community funding. For buyers that matters: there's no vendor relationship behind the 379,086 domains we detect, only code that developers and site builders shipped.

What is webpack vs Babel?

Webpack is a bundler: it combines a site's modules and assets into the files a browser loads. Babel is a compiler that rewrites JavaScript syntax, and it often runs inside Webpack through a loader. They work together, and our data shows it: 48,233 domains run Babel's polyfill and Webpack output today, out of 56,675 where our crawl has seen both.

Is @babel/polyfill deprecated?

Yes. Babel's documentation says that as of Babel 7.4.0 the package is deprecated in favour of including core-js/stable directly, with a separate regenerator runtime for older setups. Sites still shipping it run an old core-js too: all 73 company pages where we confirmed the polyfill in a browser reported core-js 2.x, and 44 of them version 2.6.12.

Is Babel still used?

Yes, though our count can't show it. babeljs.io announces Babel 8.0.0, so the project still ships major versions. What we measure is the deprecated polyfill, which still runs on 379,086 live domains in our October 2026 crawl, while current Babel builds leave no flag for us to read. Our number shows old Babel output that is still live, not how many teams compile with Babel today.

How does TechnologyChecker.io detect Babel?

We load each page in a browser and check for the global flag _babelPolyfill, which @babel/polyfill sets when it runs. Modern Babel builds don't set it, so they aren't counted. The flag doesn't say who shipped it: of 42 pages carrying it in a random sample, Weebly's site script set it on 20, Shopify's shopify-xr script on 4 and gambling apps on 6.
