Companies Using Craft CMS

I spent years on crawling infrastructure before we started TechnologyChecker, and Craft CMS is one of the cleaner platforms to count. A domain counts when it sets one of Craft's own cookies, CRAFT_CSRF_TOKEN or CraftSessionId, or sends an X-Powered-By header naming Craft CMS. The rule has nothing else in it. I checked it on 100 random live domains from our October 2026 crawl: 93 loaded, 89 sent the cookie or header on a plain request, and the other 4 loaded Craft's asset paths or its SEOmatic plugin. That gives 22,805 live domains, 17,951 of them matched to a company.

There is one blind spot. A headless Craft build, where Next.js or Nuxt renders the public site and calls Craft's GraphQL API, sets none of those cookies on its public pages. Those sites are missing, so 22,805 is a floor. Redirects cut the other way: 16 of the 93 domains that loaded redirected to another domain, so the account count is lower than the domain count.

Growth has levelled off

The chart reads 19,073 in June, 20,421 in July, 21,841 in August, 22,829 in September and 22,805 in October. Part of that climb is our side: the domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection widens over time. October is flat against September. 1,810 domains dropped Craft since we began tracking it in mid-March 2026, and we can't yet say how many of those were sites shutting down.

Sales signal: treat Craft as a flat pool of about 23,000 domains. Work the installed base and the agencies behind it; new adoption is slow.

Small companies, built by studios

47.97% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 29.4% have 11 to 50. Only 304 have more than 1,000 staff, about 1.8%, against roughly 6.2% on Umbraco's profile. Advertising Services, LinkedIn's label for agencies, holds 2.58% of matched companies, because the studios that build Craft sites often run it on their own. Ranked by LinkedIn following, universities lead: Penn State, the University of Texas at Austin's Dell Medical School, the University of Maryland and KU Leuven. Higher Education isn't in the top ten industries, though, so they are a visible tail on a base of mostly small companies. At large companies Craft is usually one site: FANUC America runs it on its collaborative-robot site, Cargolux on an anniversary microsite.

Sales signal: most Craft sites have an agency behind them. Selling through those agencies reaches more sites than writing to owners one at a time.

Belgium, Switzerland and the built environment

The United States leads with 4,002 matched companies and the United Kingdom has 3,253. Then the map turns European: Belgium 1,736, the Netherlands 1,695, Germany 1,231, Switzerland 1,101 and Norway 721. Belgium has more Craft companies than Germany, and Switzerland nearly as many as Australia (1,160). The industry table has its own cluster. Construction (5.53%), Real Estate (3.68%) and Architecture and Planning (2.79%) add up to 12.0% of matched companies, about one in eight. Geberit, the Swiss sanitary-technology group, sells into that same industry.

Sales signal: for Benelux and Swiss agencies, or anyone selling to architects and property developers, the Craft list is a ready-made segment: one matched company in eight is in construction, real estate or architecture.

Where Craft sites go

Counts are domains since mid-March 2026, and a CMS change is a rebuild, so every row is a replatformed site. WordPress trades almost evenly: 221 domains moved from WordPress to Craft and 239 went the other way, 74 of them in the last 30 days. Webflow is the lopsided one, 62 out against 15 in, about four to one. Squarespace took 20 and gave 14. Statamic, another PHP CMS, took 6 and gave 1. ExpressionEngine only feeds Craft, 10 in and none out, which fits Pixel & Tonic's history: it built the Matrix field for ExpressionEngine before launching Craft 1 on 4 June 2013, per PutYourLightsOn's Craft timeline.

Sales signal: Craft agencies should treat Webflow as the competitor to beat at redesign time. Webflow partners will find their warmest Craft prospects among sites due a rebuild.

A plugin-shaped stack

Percentages are of the 22,840 live Craft domains. SEOmatic, nystudio107's SEO plugin, announces itself on 39.12%, against 0.78% for Yoast SEO, WordPress's plugin. Google Analytics runs on 70.65%, and the privacy-first tools show up too: Plausible on 2.29%, Fathom on 1.47% and Umami on 0.67%. Plausible's share is more than twice its 0.98% on Umbraco's domains. Cookie Control (9.67%) and Cookiebot (9.37%) are the main consent banners. GoDaddy shows on 12.99%, but our GoDaddy rule reads DNS, so that figure means the domain's nameservers or email sit at GoDaddy, not that the site is hosted there.

Sales signal: Craft site owners are used to paying for plugins. A vendor that ships a Craft plugin sells to owners who already buy them.

What it costs

Per Craft's pricing page (checked 10 October 2026), Solo is free for one user, Team is $279 per project for up to five users and Pro is $399 per project with unlimited users. Each paid edition includes a year of updates, then $99 a year, and Team and Pro are free when hosted on Craft Cloud. SEO is marked "With Plugin" on every edition, and SEOmatic lists at $99, then $69 a year.

Sales signal: the licence is a one-off per project, so the recurring spend sits with hosting, plugins and the agency retainer. That is where a Craft site's budget renews.
