Companies Using ShareThis

I came to ShareThis expecting a share-button page and found a data business with share buttons attached. Our October 2026 crawl finds the ShareThis script on 116,747 live domains. After removing 17,422 copied spam pages and for-sale or gambling pages, 99,325 remain, 55,253 of them matched to a company. Before you prospect them, know that the buttons are paid for with visitor data.

Free buttons, paid data

ShareThis gives the buttons away; its share-buttons page says they've been free since 2007. It makes money from the data. Its data page cites 3 million websites, 1.5 billion users and 18 billion monthly events, and the company now calls itself ShareThis, a Predactiv company. You can see the trade in a browser. On three of five ShareThis pages I loaded, the script called ID-sync addresses for data partners: Lotame's crwdcntrl.net on all three, plus Clickagy, LinkedIn and company-target.com on some, each passing a ShareThis user ID.

Sales signal: a ShareThis site has accepted a third-party data script for free buttons. Consent, privacy and page-speed tools have an easy opening line there, and so does any share-button vendor that doesn't sell data.

One reading, not a trend line

The usage chart has one point, 1 October 2026, because the earlier monthly totals include the copied pages. I wouldn't read those totals as adoption anyway: the domains we crawl turn over every month, dead sites out and newly found ones in, and our detection widens over time. Exits are real, though. 38,722 domains dropped ShareThis on at least one hostname since March 2026 (counted before cleaning), and in a 12 October recheck 3,405 of 38,704 such domains still ran it on another hostname.

Sales signal: about 38,700 exits in seven months is a lot of sites rebuilding or cleaning up. The live base is large and old, so pitch replacement and cleanup.

The copies we took out

Start with what isn't on this list. 14,513 domains carried a copy of one Indonesian retailer's homepage, put up on expired domains by gambling spam sites, with the retailer's ShareThis buttons, Klevu search and Branch SDK still inside. 9,234 of them got past our for-sale and gambling title filter, and 4,091 of those still matched a LinkedIn company record. They're gone from every chart here. Outside them, the install paths are ordinary. ShareThis's own WordPress plugin lists 10,000+ active installs on WordPress.org. Two other plugins, Simple Share Buttons Adder (40,000+) and Social Media Feather (10,000+), list ShareThis as a contributor and load ShareThis's st_insights.js script under one shared publisher ID each; in our script logs those IDs sit on 1,308 and 775 sites. Shopify stores add the buttons through an app.

Sales signal: if you buy a ShareThis list elsewhere, drop domains that run both Klevu and Branch first. And a site on Simple Share Buttons Adder never signed up with ShareThis at all; its owner chose a plugin.

Customer profile

63.79% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 staff and only 9.52% were founded in the 2020s, against 24.65% on Elementor's profile. Large organisations carry ShareThis on side sites. 25 of the 50 named companies run it on a subdomain: the State Department on stories.state.gov, General Mills on its privacy pages, Western Union on its investor site, Foundever and Peraton on careers sites. Universities are the biggest named cluster, from NYU Abu Dhabi to NTU Singapore.

Sales signal: at a big organisation, the buyer is whoever runs that one site, often a communications or recruitment team, not central IT.

Industry and geography

No industry reaches 4%: Real Estate leads at 3.98%, then Retail (3.41%) and Construction (3.12%), and the top ten add up to 27.7%. The US has 19,025 matched companies, more than the next six countries combined (15,719). Brazil (1,931), Spain (1,905), Argentina (936) and Mexico (510) give the list a Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking tail.

Sales signal: segment by site type. Listings, blogs and news pages carry share buttons in every sector.

Switching: a dead rival and a live one

No ShareThis pair passes our switching tests, and one rival in the table no longer exists. AddThis still shows 72,261 domains, but Oracle announced on 1 April 2023 that it would end the service on 31 May 2023 (Wikipedia), and addthis.com now redirects to Oracle. 1,815 domains still carry both AddThis and ShareThis code. AddToAny, the live rival, runs next to ShareThis on 1,285 domains. Twitter's widgets sit beside it on 3,340 of the 4,732 domains ever seen with both.

Sales signal: AddThis leftovers mark sites nobody has audited in years, a good list for agencies selling rebuilds or performance work.

The stack around it

Google Tag Manager (66.11%) and Google Analytics (69.68%) are near-universal, WordPress runs on 52.2%, and publisher ad tags such as AdSense (7.8%) and 33Across (6.97%) are common. Consent tools are rare for a base running a data-collecting script: CookieYes is on 3.92%, Funding Choices on 3.2% and OneTrust on 1.15%, and the six most common consent managers together reach at most 12.73% (3.92 + 3.2 + 1.91 + 1.35 + 1.2 + 1.15).

Sales signal: most ShareThis sites show none of the common consent managers, while their visitors' IDs go to ShareThis's partners. That's the clearest cross-sell on this page for consent vendors.

What ShareThis says, and what we see

ShareThis cites 3 million websites; we find its script live on 99,325 domains, about one in 30 of that figure. Both can be true. ShareThis doesn't say how it counts, and a network figure can include every domain that has ever sent it data, while ours counts the script live on a page we crawled this month, with copied pages removed.

Sales signal: size the market from the live count.
