Companies Using IPinfo
IPinfo is an IP data API, and our October 2026 crawl finds 43,583 live domains whose pages call it from the visitor's browser, usually to pick a country, a currency or a phone-number format. Below is the list of companies that use IPinfo that way, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes AT&T on its business site, T-Mobile's prepaid store, Atlas Copco, Xero and FICO. It can't include server-side users. IPinfo says it has more than 500,000 users and handles over a billion API requests a day (IPinfo, About), and a call made from a server never reaches a crawler.
IPinfo ranks 4th of the 66 technologies we track in Maps & Geolocation, with 1.78% of the category, behind Google Maps, Leaflet and ipify. A lot of the count arrives inside other software. 39.64% of IPinfo domains run Shopify, and when we traced the call on 24 Shopify stores, every one we could attribute came from a theme or an app, such as MakeProSimp's ToastiBar sales-popup app or the Kalles theme's currency converter, not from code the merchant wrote.

IPinfo Usage Statistics
Our crawl counted 31,349 IPinfo domains in June 2026, 46,806 in July, 48,077 in August, 43,434 in September and 43,583 in October. Don't read the June to July jump as a wave of installs. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time, so the steps say as much about our coverage as about IPinfo. Since we began tracking it in March 2026, 19,190 domains have dropped it. When so much of the base comes through store themes and apps, a store that closes or changes theme takes IPinfo with it. On 12 October about one in 15 of those domains still called IPinfo from another hostname.

Which Countries Use IPinfo the Most?
Which countries use IPinfo the most? The United States, with 4,721 matched companies, then India (2,654), the United Kingdom (1,360), Brazil (785) and Canada (683). India is the outlier. It has about 56 companies here for every 100 American ones; on ipapi.co's profile the figure is about 37 (1,968 to 5,312) and on ip-api's about 11 (1,038 to 9,746). Part of the reason is a WordPress add-on for Contact Form 7 that looks up the visitor's country to preset the phone code. It made the IPinfo call on 7 of the 90 company sites we opened, and four of those were Indian. These counts cover the 19,453 IPinfo domains we matched to a company.
Share of the 19,453 IPinfo domains we matched to a company record — 44.6% of the 43,583 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
IPinfo Market Share Among Maps & Geolocation
What is IPinfo's market share? 1.78% of Maps & Geolocation, 4th of the 66 technologies we track there, on 43,583 domains, based on our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The category puts map libraries and IP lookup APIs in one table, so the two leaders are a different kind of product: Google Maps has 1,908,503 domains and Leaflet 246,886. Among lookup APIs, ipify leads with 66,052. ipapi.co, which our tables file under visitor identification, counted 45,464 in October, about 1,900 more than IPinfo. Mapbox GL JS sits just below IPinfo at 41,355.
Top Competitors by Market Share
IPinfo Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use IPinfo? Mostly small ones. 50.2% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 28.93% have 11 to 50, so 79.13% have 50 or fewer. That's close to ipapi.co (53.86% at 1 to 10) and ip-api (49.25%). 354 companies have more than 1,000 staff. At those, the call usually sits on one property rather than the whole estate: T-Mobile's prepaid store, Four Seasons' online shop, PerkinElmer's shop, a Xero content site.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The largest group of matched companies was founded in the 2010s (42.75%), and the 2020s add 23.39%, so two in three date from 2010 or later. The 2000s hold 15.94%. That's what you'd expect when four in ten domains are Shopify stores. The older end is small but real: 2.99% predate 1960, including Atlas Copco (1873), Greif (1877) and AT&T (1885), all of which made the call when we opened their sites.
What Industries Use IPinfo the Most?
Retail leads at 5.64%, followed by IT Services and IT Consulting (5.01%), Software Development (3.97%) and Real Estate (3.64%), based on our enriched company data. Add Retail Apparel and Fashion (3.01%) and retail reaches 8.65%, which is the Shopify share showing through. No industry reaches 6%, and the ten largest add up to about a third of matched companies, so the rest spread across dozens of sectors.
Retailers using IPinfo include Mr Price, the South African chain, on its group site, and YETI on its German store. Telecom companies on IPinfo include AT&T, whose business site asks IPinfo only for the visitor's country, and T-Mobile on its prepaid store. Universities using IPinfo often call it from a form: the University of Oklahoma's online-degrees site does it through a phone-field plugin, and the University of Maryland Global Campus through a phone-number component on its Asia site.
IPinfo Alternatives & Competitors
Sites that call two lookup services often do it on purpose, as a fallback. 5,314 IPinfo domains also call ipify, 1,548 call ipapi.co and 469 call ip-api. One Shopify app we traced asks IPinfo first, then falls back to ipwho.is and reallyfreegeoip.org. None of these pairs passes our switching tests: of the 7,789 domains ever seen with IPinfo and ipify, 5,314 still run both. ipgeolocation (2,245 domains) and IP2Location.io (2,046) are much smaller in our crawl.
IPinfo Customer Migration
Tech Stack of IPinfo-Powered Websites
Across the 42,472 IPinfo domains in our clean live set, Google Analytics runs on 69.22% and Shopify on 39.64%, with WordPress on 31.35% and Elementor on 15.47%. The app behind many of the Shopify calls shows up in the stack too: MakeProSimp is on 7.06% of IPinfo domains, and across our whole crawl 3,005 of the 5,746 live MakeProSimp domains call IPinfo. Chat widgets are common, with WhatsApp Business Chat on 9.8% and Tawk.to on 2.42%, and CookieYes (3.14%) leads the consent banners.

Expert Analysis: IPinfo Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

IPinfo's homepage pitches it to developers and enterprises. In our October 2026 crawl, the biggest single group of sites calling it is online shops: 39.64% run Shopify. A domain counts here when one of its pages loads a script from ipinfo.io or sends a request there, so each of the 43,583 live domains is a site asking IPinfo, from the visitor's browser, where that visitor is. 19,453 of them match a company. On 12 October I opened the top 50 in a headless browser and watched the network: 41 made the call, and most of the rest blocked automated browsers.
A floor, not a customer count
IPinfo's about page claims more than 500,000 users and over a billion API requests a day. Our number is the slice of that you can see. A fraud tool or a security product calls IPinfo from its servers or loads its downloadable database, and nothing on its public pages changes. Cybersecurity firms such as Fingerprint and GreyNoise lead IPinfo's own customer stories, and that kind of server-side use doesn't register in a crawl. So read this page as a list of websites that ask IPinfo about their visitors, which is a narrower thing than a list of who pays IPinfo.
Sales signal: use this list to find sites doing location lookups in the browser, not to size IPinfo's revenue. If you sell IP data, a site calling a free endpoint from its pages is a prospect for a proper server-side setup.
Where the calls come from
With Shopify that large a share, I took a random sample of 30 IPinfo domains on Shopify and traced each request back to the script that sent it. 24 made the call. On six it was ToastiBar, MakeProSimp's sales-popup app, which asks ipinfo.io for the visitor's location. On seven it was the theme: Kalles on four stores, through its currency converter, Wpbingo on two and Vean Global on one. Six more came from other apps, including a cart-alert app that tries IPinfo first and falls back to two free services. I couldn't attribute five. None of the 19 I could attribute was a merchant's own integration.
The crawl-wide numbers agree. 3,005 of the 5,746 live MakeProSimp domains call IPinfo, and MakeProSimp shows on 7.06% of IPinfo's base. Only one of the 24 stores sent an IPinfo account token. Among the 41 large-company sites that made the call, 15 did.
"Four in ten IPinfo domains are Shopify stores, and in the ones I traced, a theme or an app made the call. The merchant usually never chose IPinfo." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: on a Shopify store, an IPinfo detection tells you about the theme or app, not about a buying decision. For IPinfo's own team, app and theme developers are the accounts that matter, because one app partner moves thousands of domains.
Growth, and what it isn't
The chart reads 31,349 in June 2026, 46,806 in July, 48,077 in August, 43,434 in September and 43,583 in October. Don't read the June step as adoption. The domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites leaving and new ones arriving, and our detection widens over time; both move this line. Since March 2026, 19,190 domains have dropped IPinfo. When a store closes or switches theme the call goes with it, so churn in this base says little about IPinfo's product.
Sales signal: treat the base as roughly flat at about 43,000 domains. The useful timing signal is a store changing theme, which shows up in its stack.
Who the companies are
50.2% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 28.93% have 11 to 50. Two in three were founded in 2010 or later. Retail (5.64%) and Retail Apparel and Fashion (3.01%) together make 8.65%, the largest cluster. The 354 companies with more than 1,000 staff use IPinfo differently. They call it on one property: T-Mobile on its prepaid store, Four Seasons and PerkinElmer on their shops, AT&T on its business site, which asks only for the country. Several call it through a vendor. Experian plc, Alinma Bank, Nahdi and DOF run investor-relations pages built with Euroland's IR tools, and those pages call IPinfo.
Sales signal: at a large company, find the team that owns the property making the call, such as e-commerce, investor relations or the business-sales portal. Central IT may not know the call exists.
The India effect
The United States leads with 4,721 matched companies, but India is second with 2,654, about 56 for every 100 American companies. On ipapi.co's profile that figure is about 37 (1,968 to 5,312), and on ip-api's about 11 (1,038 to 9,746). Part of the gap is a WordPress add-on that gives Contact Form 7 a country-and-phone field. It looks up the visitor's country through IPinfo to preset the dialling code, and it made the call on 7 of the 90 company sites I opened. Four of those were Indian: JK Tech, Nihilent, IMS People and IDS Infotech.
Sales signal: Indian B2B sites with international phone fields are a ready list for anyone selling form, lead-capture or phone-validation tools. They already care where the visitor is.
Two lookup services at once
Plenty of sites call more than one lookup service. 5,314 IPinfo domains also call ipify, 1,548 call ipapi.co and 469 call ip-api. That's redundancy, not switching. Of the 7,789 domains ever seen with IPinfo and ipify, 5,314 still run both, which is why none of these pairs passes our switching tests and this page has no migration table. The cart-alert app above is a typical case: it chains three services so that one failure doesn't break the page.
"Sites that call IPinfo and ipify together aren't halfway through a switch. About two in three of the pairs we've ever seen are still running both." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: a site chaining free lookup services is a candidate for one paid, dependable source. That's an easier conversation than asking them to rip out a competitor.
The stack around it
Google Analytics runs on 69.22% of IPinfo domains, Shopify on 39.64%, WordPress on 31.35% and Elementor on 15.47%. WhatsApp Business Chat (9.8%) and Tawk.to (2.42%) point to sites that want visitors to message or call, which is where knowing the country helps.
Sales signal: the typical IPinfo site is a small store or lead-generation site with a chat widget. Sellers of localisation, currency and phone tools will find more fit here than sellers of enterprise security.
What IPinfo costs
IPinfo's pricing page (checked 12 October 2026) lists IPinfo Lite at $0, with unlimited requests for country and ASN data. Core costs $31 a month, or $26 a month billed annually, with 150,000 requests a month and city-level location. Max costs $196 a month, or $163 billed annually, for 250,000 requests. Enterprise is quoted, and database downloads start at $1,000 a month.
Sales signal: with Lite free and unlimited, many of these 43,583 domains likely pay nothing, and a token in the request shows an account, not a paid plan. Upgrade interest sits with sites that need city-level data or VPN detection.
Key takeaways
1. 43,583 live domains call IPinfo from the browser, 4th of 66 in Maps & Geolocation. Server-side use is invisible to us.
2. Shopify runs on 39.64% of them, and the call usually comes from a theme or an app such as MakeProSimp's ToastiBar.
3. India is unusually strong, with 2,654 matched companies, helped by a Contact Form 7 phone-field add-on.
4. Large companies call it on single properties, sometimes through a vendor's widget.
5. The 5,314-domain overlap with ipify is redundancy, not switching.
How to use this list
Split it by platform first: Shopify rows tell you about apps and themes, and large companies' rows are more often deliberate setups. Our guide to technology detection methods explains why browser-side signals like this one count sites, not contracts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses IPinfo?
Mostly small online stores and business sites that want to know where a visitor is. Our crawl finds 43,583 live domains calling IPinfo from the browser; 39.64% run Shopify, usually through a theme or app, and 50.2% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff. Larger names include AT&T, T-Mobile, Atlas Copco, Four Seasons, Xero, FICO and Experian's investor site.
How many customers does IPinfo have?
IPinfo's about page says it has more than 500,000 users and handles over a billion API requests a day. We can only see calls made from a web page: 43,583 live domains in October 2026, 19,453 of them matched to a company. Calls made from a server, which is how security and fraud tools usually use IP data, never show up in a crawl.
What is IPinfo's market share?
1.78% of Maps & Geolocation, 4th of the 66 technologies we track there, counting 43,583 domains in October 2026. That table mixes map libraries with IP lookup APIs, and Google Maps alone holds 78.04%. Among lookup services, ipify is larger at 66,052 domains, and ipapi.co, which we file under visitor identification, counted 45,464. ip-api follows with 30,987.
What are the best alternatives to IPinfo?
For lookups from the browser, the services we see most are ipify (66,052 domains), ipapi.co (45,464) and ip-api (30,987); ipgeolocation and IP2Location.io are far smaller. MaxMind's GeoIP databases are the usual comparison for server-side use. Many sites don't pick just one: 5,314 IPinfo domains also call ipify, often as a fallback. If you only need country and ASN, IPinfo Lite is free.
Which countries use IPinfo the most?
The United States has the most matched companies, 4,721, then India (2,654), the United Kingdom (1,360), Brazil (785) and Canada (683). India's share is unusually high, about 56 companies for every 100 American ones, against about 37 on ipapi.co's profile (1,968 to 5,312). A WordPress phone-field add-on that calls IPinfo is part of the reason. These counts cover the 19,453 IPinfo domains we matched to a company.
What size companies use IPinfo?
Mostly small ones. 50.2% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 28.93% have 11 to 50, so 79.13% have 50 or fewer. 354 have more than 1,000 staff, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Atlas Copco and Greif. At those companies the call usually sits on one site, such as an online store, an investor page or a business portal.

Yes, it's an established vendor. IPinfo has run since 2013, its founder is still co-CEO, and its about page reports more than 500,000 users. Our crawl finds its API called from 43,583 live domains, including AT&T's business site, Atlas Copco, FICO and Experian's investor site. Whether your own use is lawful, such as storing visitors' IP data, depends on your privacy setup.
Why do Shopify stores call IPinfo?
Because a theme or app does it for them. We traced the call on 24 Shopify stores: MakeProSimp's ToastiBar app made it on six, the Kalles, Wpbingo and Vean Global themes on seven, other apps on six, and five we couldn't attribute. Across our crawl, 3,005 of 5,746 live MakeProSimp domains call IPinfo. Only one of the 24 stores sent an IPinfo account token.
How does TechnologyChecker.io detect IPinfo?
We count a domain when a page on it loads a script from ipinfo.io or sends a request there, which happens in the visitor's browser. That catches sites, themes and plugins that look up a visitor's location client-side. It can't see servers calling IPinfo's API or using its downloadable databases, so the 43,583 domains are a floor for browser use, not a count of IPinfo's customers.
