Companies Using ipgeolocation
ipgeolocation.io sells IP geolocation, time zone and security lookups. Our October 2026 crawl finds 1,539 live domains whose own pages call its API from the visitor's browser, usually to tailor the page to the visitor's country. Below is the list of companies that use ipgeolocation that way, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes Leidos, the law firm DWF, the Canadian retailer Giant Tiger, Charlotte Russe and Pan Pacific Hotels Group. Lookups made from a server never reach a crawler, so server-side customers can't appear here.
The 1,539 leaves out 531 domains where the call came from another vendor's widget under that vendor's key, most of them (343) sites running Writesonic's Botsonic chatbot, which looks each visitor up under Writesonic's key. On the cleaned count, ipgeolocation ranks 19th of the 66 technologies we track in Maps & Geolocation, with 0.06%. WordPress runs on 28.78% of the remaining domains and Shopify on 21.77%.

ipgeolocation Usage Statistics
Our October 2026 crawl counts 1,539 ipgeolocation domains after removing widget-carried calls, and the chart has a single October point because the cleaned count starts with this crawl. Turnover underneath it is high. Since tracking began on 16 March 2026, 1,059 domains have dropped ipgeolocation from at least one hostname, and only 80 of them still run it on another. The set of domains we crawl also turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection signals widen over time, so future monthly points will move for both reasons.

Which Countries Use ipgeolocation the Most?
Which countries use ipgeolocation the most? The United States, with 244 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (82), Australia (48), and Canada and India (37 each). The four English-speaking markets hold 411. Brazil (34) and the Netherlands (26) follow. ipgeolocation.io is built in Lahore, yet Pakistan isn't in our top 15, and India has about 15 companies here for every 100 American ones, against about 56 on IPinfo's profile.
Share of the 845 ipgeolocation domains we matched to a company record — 54.9% of the 1,539 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.
ipgeolocation Market Share Among Maps & Geolocation
What is ipgeolocation's market share? 0.06% of Maps & Geolocation, 19th of the 66 technologies we track there, on 1,539 domains after our cleaning, based on our live crawl at TechnologyChecker.io. The table mixes map libraries with lookup APIs, so Google Maps leads with 1,908,503 domains. Among browser-side IP lookups, ipify (66,052) and IPinfo (43,583) are about 43 and 28 times larger, and IP2Location.io (2,046) and ipstack (1,806) are larger too. Our category table still shows ipgeolocation before the cleaning, at 2,245 domains and 14th.
Top Competitors by Market Share
ipgeolocation Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use ipgeolocation? Mostly small ones. 42.49% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 30.75% have 11 to 50, so 73.24% have 50 or fewer. That's less tilted to the smallest band than IPinfo's profile (50.2% at 1 to 10). 23 companies have more than 1,000 staff, among them Leidos, DWF, Giant Tiger, Charlotte Russe and Multi-Color Corporation, all of which made the call when we opened their sites.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The largest group of matched companies was founded in the 2010s (40.99%), and the 2020s add 20.58%, so 61.57% date from 2010 or later. The 2000s hold 18.35%. The older end is thin, at 5.32% before 1960, but it's there in our list: the Jewish National Fund (1901), Multi-Color Corporation (1916) and the Swiss components maker Schurter (1933) all made the call when we checked.
What Industries Use ipgeolocation the Most?
Software Development leads at 6.08%, then IT Services and IT Consulting (4.94%), Retail (4.82%) and Advertising Services (4.44%), based on our enriched company data. Add Technology, Information and Internet (4.18%) and the tech group reaches 15.2%; Retail with Retail Apparel and Fashion (3.17%) reaches 7.99%. The ten largest industries add up to only 37.77%, so the buyer is whoever builds the website, in almost any sector.
Retailers using ipgeolocation include Giant Tiger, whose Shopify theme makes the call, Charlotte Russe, which makes it from a store-inventory script, and Skin Laundry on its online store. Hotel groups on ipgeolocation include Pan Pacific Hotels Group and Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Professional services firms using ipgeolocation include the law firm DWF and the Australian patent attorneys FB Rice.
ipgeolocation Alternatives & Competitors
Sites that call two lookup services often do it on purpose, as a fallback or for different fields. On the cleaned set, 99 ipgeolocation domains also call ipify today and 25 call IPinfo. Neither pair passes our switching tests, because most domains ever seen with both still run both. IP2Location.io, on 2,046 domains, is the closest of the three in size. The rival figures in this table haven't been through the widget cleaning applied to ipgeolocation's own count.

How We Counted ipgeolocation Sites
A domain counts here when one of its pages calls api.ipgeolocation.io from the visitor's browser, on any endpoint: the main lookup, the free getip call, time zone or astronomy. Lookups made from a server never reach us, so the count is a floor for ipgeolocation's use and says nothing about its server-side customers.
Our crawl found the call on 2,075 live domains. We removed 5 whose titles mark them as for-sale or gambling landers, then 531 where the call comes from another vendor's software under that vendor's key: Writesonic's Botsonic chatbot (343 domains), Cytrio's consent banner, which calls the keyless getip endpoint (120), the Langwill (formerly eTranslate) translation app for Shopify, which uses one key across unrelated stores (55), and an ad-management script on a network of content sites (13). We opened 24 sites carrying Botsonic: 21 made the call, every one under the same Writesonic key, and three didn't load. In a random sample of 22 domains before the cleaning, 16 made the call while we watched, and 12 of those 16 did it from their own code. Every chart and table on this page uses the remaining 1,539.
Two limits remain. We matched carriers through the scripts our crawl logged in the last 60 days, which covered 1,886 of the 2,075 domains, so a widget we didn't identify, or one on a domain without logs, can still be inside the count. And 48 of the 1,354 cleaned domains with a page title (3.5%) carry gambling words such as casino or pokies. Our Maps & Geolocation category table hasn't had this correction and lists ipgeolocation at 2,245 domains, 14th with 0.09%, which is why the two pages disagree.
Expert Analysis: ipgeolocation Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

I went into ipgeolocation expecting a developer's tool and found a good part of it working inside other vendors' products. Our October 2026 crawl found the browser call on 2,075 live domains. After removing landers and the domains where another vendor's widget makes the call, 1,539 remain, 845 of them matched to a company. That cleaned base is what this analysis covers, and the How We Counted section below lists what came out.
What we took out
Writesonic's Botsonic chatbot was the big one: 343 domains. We opened 24 sites carrying it, and 21 made the call, every one under the same ipgeolocation key, Writesonic's; three didn't load. Writesonic appears on the customer logo wall on ipgeolocation.io's home page, so this is one real customer that would otherwise have shown up as hundreds. Cytrio's consent banner (120 domains), the Langwill translation app for Shopify (55) and an ad-management script (13) came out for the same reason, 531 domains in all.
"About a quarter of the raw count was other vendors' widgets making the call. Size this market by accounts before you size it by domains." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: if you sell an IP lookup, Writesonic, Cytrio and Langwill are three accounts worth more than the 531 domains they carry. If you prospect the 1,539, you're looking at sites where someone on the team wrote or installed the call.
One reading, heavy churn
The cleaned count starts with this crawl, so the chart has one October point and no trend to read. Churn is the bigger number. Since 16 March 2026, 1,059 domains have dropped ipgeolocation from at least one hostname, and only 80 of them still run it on another hostname. A call that lives in a theme or a widget goes when the theme or widget goes. Future points will also move because the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection signals widen over time.
Sales signal: for a rival lookup API, the churned domains are the better list. They needed geolocation once and may have moved it to a server or another provider.
Who wires it in
Among companies that call it themselves, the integrations we saw were small. 17 of the 61 candidate sites that made the call in our first check loaded ipgeolocation.io's own jQuery SDK from jsDelivr: DWF, Multi-Color Corporation and Ceragon Networks among them, and Leidos's homepage did the same on our re-check. Others put it in a Shopify theme (Giant Tiger) or a store-inventory script (Charlotte Russe), and Royal Holiday uses the Astronomy API for sunrise and sunset times. The companies are small too: 42.49% of matched companies have 1 to 10 employees and 30.75% have 11 to 50, with 23 above 1,000 staff. The logo wall lists Virtusa and FreshPrints, and both are in our list; Fresh Prints made the call when we opened it, while Virtusa's site blocked our browser.
Sales signal: the buyer is a developer or a web agency, and the trigger is a country redirect, a currency switch or a stock check. Every key we saw was readable in the browser's request, so key security is a fair opening.
Industries and countries
Software Development (6.08%) and IT Services (4.94%) lead, Retail (4.82%) and Advertising Services (4.44%) follow, and the ten largest industries add up to only 37.77%. The United States has 244 matched companies, the United Kingdom 82, Australia 48, Canada and India 37 each. ipgeolocation.io is built in Lahore by JFreaks Software Solutions, according to its about page, but Pakistan isn't in our top 15, and India has about 15 companies per 100 American ones against about 56 on IPinfo's profile.
Sales signal: treat it as a horizontal, English-speaking list. Filter by stack before industry.
Running beside ipify and IPinfo
On the cleaned set, 99 ipgeolocation domains also call ipify today and 25 call IPinfo. Neither pair passes our switching tests, because most domains ever seen with both still run both. ipify (66,052 domains) and IPinfo (43,583) are far larger, though their figures haven't had the widget cleaning applied here.
"In our data, sites stack lookup APIs rather than swap one for another. The ones calling ipgeolocation from their own code are the ones that chose it." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: a site calling two lookups makes two requests per visitor where one would do, which makes consolidation an easy first pitch.
The stack around it
Across the 1,539 domains in our clean live set, Google Analytics runs on 81.48%, WordPress on 28.78% and Shopify on 21.77%. Next.js (10.92%), ASP.NET (3.64%) and Amazon Web Services (16.37%) point to custom builds, which fits the many sites calling ipgeolocation from their own code. Firebase is on 4.68% and Vercel on 4.55%.
Sales signal: Next.js and AWS sites have the easiest path to moving the lookup server-side, so talk to them about latency and key security rather than price.
What it costs
The pricing page (13 October 2026) lists a Free plan of 1,000 credits a day, then Starter at $19 a month for 150,000 credits, Plus at $49 for 500,000, Pro at $79 for 1 million, Business at $129 for 2 million and Premium at $249 for 5 million. The home page says commercial use requires a paid plan. Requests can be authorised by API key or by request origin, and the free getip endpoint needs neither. The about page dates the idea to late 2017 and the first public API release to May 2018.
Sales signal: a commercial site calling from the browser with a visible key may be on the Free plan against its terms. That's an upgrade conversation for ipgeolocation.io and an opening for anyone with a better offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses ipgeolocation?
Mostly small companies, plus a real enterprise tail. Our October 2026 crawl finds 1,539 live domains calling the ipgeolocation.io API from their own pages. Software Development (6.08%) and IT Services (4.94%) lead the industries. Named users that made the call when we opened their sites include Leidos, DWF, Giant Tiger, Charlotte Russe and Fresh Prints, which ipgeolocation.io also lists as a customer.
How many customers does ipgeolocation have?
ipgeolocation.io's about page says more than 700,000 developers trust it, a sign-up figure rather than a site count. Our October 2026 crawl finds 1,539 live domains calling its API from their own pages, 845 matched to a company. We left out 531 more where the call came from another vendor's widget, such as Writesonic's chatbot, under that vendor's key.
What is ipgeolocation's market share?
0.06% of Maps & Geolocation, 19th of the 66 technologies we track there, on 1,539 domains after we removed widget-carried calls. Map libraries dominate the table, led by Google Maps on 1,908,503. Among browser-side IP lookups, ipify (66,052 domains) and IPinfo (43,583) are much bigger, and IP2Location.io (2,046) and ipstack (1,806) are larger too. Before the cleaning, ipgeolocation was 14th.
What are the best alternatives to ipgeolocation?
The lookup APIs sites call from the browser most often in our crawl are ipify, on 66,052 domains, and IPinfo, on 43,583; IP2Location.io (2,046) and ipstack (1,806) are nearer ipgeolocation's size. Many sites use two: 99 ipgeolocation domains also call ipify today. For server-side lookups, which we can't see, compare database downloads as well as APIs, since ipgeolocation.io sells both.
Which countries use ipgeolocation the most?
The United States, with 244 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (82), Australia (48), and Canada and India (37 each). The four English-speaking markets hold 411 between them. India is far lower than on IPinfo's profile, about 15 Indian companies per 100 American ones against 56 there. ipgeolocation.io is built in Lahore, yet Pakistan isn't in our top 15.
What size companies use ipgeolocation?
Mostly small ones. 42.49% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 30.75% have 11 to 50, so 73.24% have 50 or fewer. That's a little less tilted to the smallest band than IPinfo (50.2% at 1 to 10). 23 companies have more than 1,000 staff, including DWF, Giant Tiger, Charlotte Russe and Multi-Color Corporation.

What is IP geolocation used for?
On the sites we opened, the clearest uses were country-based: sending visitors to a country store, showing an EU-only banner, picking a currency or checking local stock. Chat and consent widgets use it to set themselves up. Royal Holiday calls ipgeolocation.io's astronomy endpoint instead, which returns sunrise and sunset times for a location.
Why do chatbot and consent widgets call ipgeolocation?
Because their vendors built it in. We opened 24 sites carrying Writesonic's Botsonic chatbot: 21 looked up the visitor under Writesonic's own key and three didn't load. Cytrio's consent banner calls the free getip endpoint, which returns the visitor's IP address without a key. Those calls aren't the site owner's, so we leave the 343 Botsonic and 120 Cytrio domains out of our count.
ipgeolocation vs IPinfo: which do more sites use?
IPinfo, by a wide margin: 43,583 live domains in our October 2026 crawl against ipgeolocation's 1,539. They overlap little, with 25 domains calling both today. IPinfo's base leans further toward Shopify, at 39.64% of its domains against 21.77% here, and toward the smallest companies, with 50.2% at 1 to 10 employees against 42.49%.
What is IP2Location?
IP2Location.io is an IP geolocation API, one of the rival homepages Google returns for ipgeolocation.io itself. In our October 2026 crawl it's called from the browser on 2,046 live domains, 507 more than ipgeolocation's cleaned 1,539, though its own figure hasn't had the same widget cleaning. Our IP2Location.io profile has its company list.
Can you geolocate an IP address from a website?
Yes, and that's what we count. A page's JavaScript sends the visitor's request to api.ipgeolocation.io, which returns country, city, time zone and currency on the free plan, plus locality, accuracy radius, company and security fields on paid ones. Several sites we opened asked only for the country, with fields=country_code2 or fields=country_code3 in the request.
How does TechnologyChecker.io detect ipgeolocation?
We record a domain when one of its pages makes a browser request to api.ipgeolocation.io, whatever the endpoint, including the free getip call and the astronomy endpoint. Then we remove domains where another vendor's widget makes the call, 531 in October 2026. Server-side lookups are invisible to us, so treat the remaining 1,539 as a floor.
