Companies Using Ionicons

I look after detection at TechnologyChecker.io, and Ionicons is a good example of a rule that measures an era as much as a library. We count a domain when a page links a stylesheet named ionicons.css or ionicons.min.css. As of our October 2026 crawl that's 172,930 domains, 112,390 of them matched to a company, 6th of 25 in Font Services. Ionic's current way of shipping the icons, a web component loaded by script, doesn't trip this rule, so I read the count as a floor and as a map of older builds. What the rule actually sees

We took a random sample of 120 Ionicons domains in October. 109 loaded, and 100 still linked the stylesheet in their HTML. We then read the header of each file. 71 of the 92 readable files were version 2, 20 were version 4 and one was 1.5.2. Version 2.0.1 went to npm in July 2015, and Ionic still keeps a version 2 page calling it the premium icon font for Ionic Framework. The current package is at 8.1.0, released in July 2026.

Sales signal: an Ionicons detection dates a site's front end better than its copyright footer does. A version 2 stylesheet means the theme or template is probably the one the site launched with.

Growth, read carefully

The line reads 146,657 in June, 163,605 in July, 167,130 in August, 172,555 in September and 172,930 in October. I wouldn't sell that as adoption. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites leaving and new ones arriving, and our detection signals widen over time. October's step was only 375. On the other side, 20,160 domains have dropped the stylesheet on at least one hostname since 16 March 2026, and about one in ten still load it on another.

Sales signal: size the pool at about 173,000 domains and expect it to shrink as those themes are replaced.

Who put it there

61 of the 100 sampled pages took Ionicons from a WordPress theme (48) or plugin (13). I looked up the theme author on each of those sites. Edge Themes (6), Mikado Themes (6), Elated Themes (5) and Select Themes (4) supplied 21, through themes such as Aalto, Agava, Estelle and Prowess and their companion core plugins. DrFuri's Martfury and StudioPress's Navigation Pro had 3 each. 11 pages pulled it from code.ionicframework.com, Ionic's own CDN, which still answers, and 3 from cdnjs or unpkg. The rest came from Joomla templates, a TYPO3 extension and self-hosted copies inside custom builds. No theme reaches 5% of the sample, so there's no single bundle behind this count.

Sales signal: the decision-maker was a theme developer, and the site owner bought the theme. Rebuild and redesign sellers should target owners of multipurpose premium themes, not the icon set.

Who the companies are

63.93% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 23.26% have 11 to 50. The 2010s are the largest founding decade (42.57%). Industries are flat, led by Advertising Services at 4.29%, LinkedIn's label for agencies, and the top ten sum to 29.36%. The enterprise tail, 1,141 companies above 1,000 staff, lives on single properties: GE HealthCare's HLS learning platform runs Ionicons 1.5.2, Honda Racing's US site 2.0.1 and Geisinger's jobs site 2.0.1 from Ionic's CDN. 26 of the 50 named rows are subdomains.

Sales signal: at a large account, the owner is the team behind that portal or careers site. Lead with what an old front end costs them in maintenance, not with icons.

Where they are

The United States has 21,387 matched companies, India 8,140 and Italy 6,859, just ahead of the United Kingdom (6,696). Spain (5,703), Germany (5,655), France (4,991) and Brazil (4,705) follow. Italy and India rank higher here than on the Twemoji profile, which tracks WordPress defaults more closely.

Sales signal: web agencies in India and Italy, where Ionicons ranks higher than on WordPress-wide counts, are a channel for rebuild and hosting offers.

Overlap, not switching

No switching table appears on this page, and that's deliberate. 100,165 domains run Ionicons and Font Awesome together today, out of 112,678 ever seen with both. The Google Font API runs on 142,949 Ionicons domains, Adobe Fonts on 2,936 and Bootstrap Icons on 2,594. Most domains ever seen with each pair still run both, so none passes our switching tests. A theme that loads two icon fonts doesn't swap one for the other. The whole theme gets replaced.

Sales signal: page-weight audits are an easy opener. A site carrying Ionicons and Font Awesome together is loading two icon fonts for one menu.

The rest of the stack

On the 172,969 clean live domains behind the stack figures, WordPress runs on 68.77%, Elementor on 24.25% and wpBakery on 6.71%. jQuery is on 97.07%, jQuery UI on 52.68%, Masonry on 48.13% and Isotope on 44.25%, the libraries portfolio themes use for filterable grids. cdnjs shows up on 14.71%, jsDelivr on 7.7% and unpkg on 6.26%. Google Analytics is on 49.47%, CookieYes on 5.54% and Complianz on 3.35%.

Sales signal: these are jQuery-era front ends. Sellers of rebuilds and block-theme migrations get a clean target list in the domains that pair Ionicons with Isotope and wpBakery.

Competitive angle: theme and builder vendors can pitch these owners a maintained replacement for a theme that ships a decade-old icon font.
