Our October 2026 crawl finds Swagger UI on 3,094 live domains. Swagger UI is SmartBear's free, open-source viewer for OpenAPI documentation, so the number counts websites carrying its code or styles, not paying customers. Below is the list of companies that use Swagger UI, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes DHL's API developer portal, Amadeus for Developers, Starling Bank's developer site and the FDIC's BankFind API documentation.

The count leaves out 375 domains whose only trace of Swagger UI was another product's stylesheet, such as sites on Hugo's Docsy theme; How We Counted, at the foot of the page, has the detail. What remains is mostly API developer portals, documentation sites and apps that bundle Swagger UI for an API page. Software Development is 21.38% of matched companies, and Next.js runs on 25.18% of the domains. Swagger UI ranks #9 in Documentation & Knowledge Base with a 1.66% share.

Swagger UI Usage Statistics

Our October 2026 crawl counts 3,094 live Swagger UI domains, after removing 375 sites that carried only another product's Swagger UI styling. The chart starts at that cleaned October figure, so it doesn't show a trend yet. Since we began tracking Swagger UI in March 2026, 547 domains have dropped it on at least one hostname, and 27 of them still run it on another.

List of Companies Using Swagger UI

Our list of companies using Swagger UI names 50 of the 1,693 matched companies, and each page carried Swagger UI's script or styles when we checked it in October 2026. Most of the websites using Swagger UI here are API developer portals, such as those of DHL, Lumen, Amadeus, OpenText, Equifax, Trellix and Starling Bank. The rest are documentation and data portals, often on a vendor's platform: open-data sites on Opendatasoft, Austrian and German university systems on CAMPUSonline, and AVEVA's, Pegasystems' and Avalara's documentation on the same docs-portal software.

Swagger UI Alternatives & Competitors

Swagger UI rarely replaces these tools; it more often sits beside them. 81 domains run both Docusaurus and Swagger UI today, of 91 we've ever seen with both, and GitBook and Postman API Documentation each share 39 live domains with it (45 and 44 ever). MkDocs shares 26. None of these pairs passes our switching tests, because most domains ever seen with both still run both. That fits a docs site built with a generator that embeds Swagger UI for its API reference page.

How We Counted Swagger UI Sites

A domain counts here if its front page loads Swagger UI's script (swagger-ui-bundle.js), defines the SwaggerUIBundle or SwaggerUIStandalonePreset object, or carries a stylesheet containing Swagger UI's class names. The stylesheet test is the broad one. Several products include Swagger UI styling in their own CSS whether or not a site uses Swagger UI, so before computing anything we removed 375 domains whose only trace was one of those stylesheets, and 4 more with for-sale or gambling page titles. Our crawl found Swagger UI on 3,472 live domains; every chart and table on this page uses the remaining 3,094.

The 375 are 182 sites on the Docsy theme for Hugo, whose main stylesheet carries one Swagger UI selector; 155 church and parish sites that embed widgets from ChurchTools, a German church-management service whose stylesheet includes Swagger UI rules; and 38 help centres published with K15t's Scroll Viewport, whose theme has a Swagger UI rule too. None of them named a Swagger UI script, container or default title on any hostname we fetched. Before the cut, those church sites made Germany look like the second-largest market and put Religious Institutions among the top industries.

What remains is not all rendered documentation. In a random sample of 30 live domains, 29 pages loaded and 6 drew Swagger UI docs on the page we check. Eight of the 29 were Docsy, Scroll Viewport or ChurchTools sites and fall in the removed group. Of the other 21, 9 loaded Swagger UI's script or its full stylesheet without drawing docs there, usually an app that bundles it for an API page elsewhere; 3 had a few Swagger UI style rules of their own; and 3 showed no marker on a second visit. The count also keeps products that ship Swagger UI inside their own consoles: Opendatasoft data portals, Dokploy server panels, CAMPUSonline university systems and documentation portals built on Zoomin. Their pages carry real Swagger UI code, but the vendor chose it, not the site owner.

Our Documentation & Knowledge Base category table hasn't had this correction and lists Swagger UI at 3,436 domains with a 1.84% share. On the cleaned count it has 1.66% and is still 9th.

Expert Analysis: Swagger UI Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Mehmet Suleyman
Mehmet SuleymanCEO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

I expected Swagger UI to be a simple count: an open-source API viewer, found wherever it renders. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 3,094 domains, and 1,693 of them match a company. Getting to that number took a correction. A domain counts when its front page loads Swagger UI's script, defines the SwaggerUIBundle object, or carries a stylesheet with Swagger UI's class names, and that last test caught products that only style Swagger UI. We removed 375 of them. Swagger UI itself is free under the Apache 2.0 licence, so none of this is a count of paying customers.

What the count measures

On 30 random live domains, 29 pages loaded. Six drew Swagger UI on the page, three of them still titled just "Swagger UI". Nine loaded its script or its full stylesheet without drawing docs there, usually because the app bundles it for an API page elsewhere. Three carried a few Swagger UI style rules of their own. The other eight carried only another product's styling (the Docsy theme for Hugo, Scroll Viewport or ChurchTools), and across all live domains those three products came to 375 sites, which we removed. Of what's left, 715 domains name a Swagger UI file or container in the page HTML itself.

Sales signal: for a high-confidence list, start with hostnames that look like API documentation. On the cleaned set, api (270 domains) and docs (252) are the two most common hostname prefixes, and developer adds 100.

A baseline, not yet a trend

The chart has a single point, the cleaned October 2026 figure of 3,094, so it can't show growth yet. What we can see is turnover. Since March 2026, 547 domains have dropped Swagger UI on at least one hostname, and 27 of them still run it on another.

"Swagger UI's footprint is wider than its usage. Hundreds of sites carry its class names because a theme or widget styles it, so the honest count starts with the pages that load its code." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: treat this as a pool of about 3,100 API-publishing organisations and prospect it for what it tells you about a company (it publishes an API), not for momentum.

Who publishes with it

36.49% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 31.23% have 11 to 50. The base is young: 68.35% were founded in 2010 or later. The 126 companies above 1,000 staff are where the named portals sit. DHL runs its API developer portal on it, and so do Amadeus, Lumen, OpenText, Equifax, Trellix, Condor and Starling Bank. FIS uses it inside Code Connect, its API marketplace, and Red Hat on Partner Connect. Some public bodies render it directly: the FDIC's BankFind API documentation and SEPTA's API page both draw Swagger UI on the page we checked.

Sales signal: at a large company, a Swagger UI detection usually points to the team that owns the developer portal or API program. That team buys API gateways, portal software and documentation tools.

Industry and geography

Software Development (21.38%), IT Services (9.48%) and Technology, Information and Internet (9.05%) lead, and with IT & Services and security the tech cluster reaches 43.81%. Financial Services (6.82%) and Government Administration (3.04%) follow, and both show up in our list as API and open-data portals. The United States leads with 466 matched companies, but Europe is close behind: France (105), the United Kingdom (102), Germany (90), Spain (72), the Netherlands (70) and Denmark (62) add up to 501. Several of the European rows in our company list are open-data portals and university systems that come with Swagger UI built in.

Sales signal: in Europe, check whether a row is a platform portal (Opendatasoft, CAMPUSonline) before you pitch, because there the vendor picked Swagger UI, not the site owner. Many of the large US rows are a company's own developer portal, such as Equifax's or Lumen's.

Docs generators: beside, not instead

No switching flow passed our tests, so this page has no migration table. Most sites with both tools keep both. Of 91 domains ever seen with Docusaurus and Swagger UI, 81 run both today. GitBook and Postman API Documentation each share 39 live domains with it, and MkDocs 26. A static docs site often embeds Swagger UI for its API reference page, so the two tend to appear together.

"Since March, seven domains that dropped Swagger UI run Docusaurus, while 81 run both. Most teams add a docs site and keep Swagger UI for the API reference inside it." - Mehmet Suleyman, CEO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: vendors of hosted API reference tools should pitch Swagger UI sites on what they add to the reference page (search, versioning, an API client), not on replacing the docs platform around it.

The stack around it

Percentages here are of the 3,094 live Swagger UI domains. Next.js runs on 25.18%, React on 18.1%, Vue.js on 11.12% and Angular on 10.63%. Amazon Web Services hosts 24.01% and Vercel 7.11%. On the server side, ASP.NET is on 8.99%, Ruby on Rails on 5.69% and Express on 4.82%. The ASP.NET share matters because Swashbuckle, the ASP.NET Core package whose README describes an embedded version of swagger-ui, was the default in Microsoft's web API template until the .NET 9 release removed it.

Sales signal: AWS-hosted API teams on modern JavaScript front ends are the core of this list. .NET shops on newer templates no longer get Swagger UI by default, which opens a door for documentation tools that fill the gap.

Releases, licence and naming

The GitHub repository dates from 2011, carries the Apache 2.0 licence and shipped v5.33.2 on 12 October 2026. SmartBear publishes it on npm as swagger-ui, swagger-ui-dist and swagger-ui-react. The specification it renders is now called OpenAPI; the OpenAPI Initiative says it was based on the Swagger Specification donated by SmartBear. FastAPI still ships Swagger UI and ReDoc as its two default docs pages, and 238 domains in our crawl have a front page titled just "Swagger UI".

Sales signal: a default-titled Swagger UI page on a public host is an API whose team hasn't customised its docs page. For portal and API-security vendors, that's a concrete opening line.

Key takeaways

1. 3,094 live domains after removing 375 theme and widget sites, #9 in Documentation & Knowledge Base with 1.66%.

2. Only 6 of 29 sampled front pages drew Swagger UI docs; 9 more load it in an app bundle without drawing it there.

3. API developer portals at DHL, Amadeus, Equifax and Starling Bank are the clearest enterprise users.

4. Six European countries (501 companies) outnumber the United States (466).

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Swagger UI?

Mostly software and IT companies publishing API documentation, plus banks, public bodies and data portals. Our October 2026 crawl finds Swagger UI on 3,094 domains, and Software Development is 21.38% of matched companies. Named users include DHL's developer portal, Amadeus for Developers, Lumen, Equifax, Starling Bank and the FDIC's BankFind API docs.

How many customers does Swagger UI have?

Swagger UI is free under the Apache 2.0 licence, so it has users rather than customers. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 3,094 live domains, 1,693 of them matched to a company, after we removed 375 sites that carried only another product's Swagger UI styling. Since March 2026, 547 domains have dropped it on at least one hostname.

What is Swagger UI's market share?

1.66% of Documentation & Knowledge Base, ranked #9, on 3,094 domains in our October 2026 crawl. Docusaurus (3.45%, 6,424 domains), Postman API Documentation (3.42%, 6,366) and GitBook (3.39%, 6,309) sit just above it, each with about twice Swagger UI's count. MkDocs has 1.29%. These tools often run together rather than compete head on.

What are the best alternatives to Swagger UI?

For an OpenAPI reference page, the main open-source options are Redoc and Scalar, both under the MIT licence on GitHub; FastAPI ships ReDoc beside Swagger UI. For a whole docs site, look at Docusaurus, GitBook, MkDocs or Postman's documentation. Those often sit beside Swagger UI rather than replace it: 81 domains run Docusaurus and Swagger UI together today.

Which countries use Swagger UI the most?

The United States, with 466 matched companies, then France (105), the United Kingdom (102), Germany (90), Spain (72), the Netherlands (70) and Denmark (62). Those six European countries together have 501 matched companies, more than the United States on its own. The counts cover the 1,693 Swagger UI domains we matched to a company.

What size companies use Swagger UI?

Mostly small ones. 36.49% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 31.23% have 11 to 50, so 67.72% have 50 staff or fewer. 126 companies have more than 1,000 staff, and in our list they mostly run Swagger UI on an API developer portal, as DHL, Amadeus, Equifax and Starling Bank do.

How old are companies that use Swagger UI?

Young, on the whole. 44.47% of matched companies with a known founding year were founded in the 2010s and 23.88% in the 2020s, so 68.35% date from 2010 or later. The 2000s add 14.1%. The older tail includes banks, regulators and public bodies that publish APIs or open data, such as the FDIC, Equifax and Brazil's Chamber of Deputies.

What is the ideal customer profile for Swagger UI?

The ideal Swagger UI customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees (36.49%), Location: US, France, UK or Germany, Founded: 2010 or later (68.35%), Industry: Software and IT services, Site type: API developer or docs portal — based on our analysis of 1,693 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

What is Swagger UI used for?

Swagger UI turns an OpenAPI description into an interactive reference page where developers can read each endpoint and try requests from the browser. swagger.io says it lets anyone visualise and interact with an API's resources without the implementation in place. In our crawl it runs on API developer portals, open-data portals and the API consoles inside products such as CAMPUSonline.

Is Swagger UI free?

Yes. Swagger UI is open source under the Apache License 2.0, per its GitHub repository, and SmartBear publishes it on npm as swagger-ui, swagger-ui-dist and swagger-ui-react. SmartBear sells paid API products under the Swagger name, but the viewer itself costs nothing. That's why the 3,094 domains in our crawl are sites, not paying customers.

Is Swagger now called OpenAPI?

The specification is. Swagger's documentation describes the OpenAPI Specification as formerly the Swagger Specification, and the OpenAPI Initiative says the spec was originally based on the Swagger Specification donated by SmartBear and is now governed under the Linux Foundation. Swagger is still the name of SmartBear's tools, including Swagger UI, Swagger Editor and Swagger Codegen.

What is Swagger UI vs Postman?

Swagger UI is a free viewer that renders an OpenAPI file as interactive docs on your own site. Postman is an API platform with its own hosted documentation feature. In our crawl Postman API Documentation reaches 6,366 domains to Swagger UI's 3,094, and only 39 domains run both today, so most sites settle on one way to publish their API docs.

Is Swagger outdated?

No. Swagger UI shipped v5.33.2 on 12 October 2026, per its GitHub releases. The defaults around it changed. Microsoft removed Swashbuckle, which embeds Swagger UI, from the .NET 9 web API template, and its docs now say a visual UI needs a third-party package. ASP.NET still runs on 8.99% of the Swagger UI domains we profiled.

What are the key differences between Swagger UI and Scalar UI?

Both render an OpenAPI file as interactive documentation. Swagger UI is SmartBear's Apache 2.0 project, whose GitHub repository dates from 2011. Scalar is a newer project under the MIT licence that pairs API references with a REST API client. We don't publish a Scalar profile yet, so we can't compare footprints; Swagger UI is on 3,094 domains in our crawl.

Does FastAPI use Swagger UI?

Yes, by default. FastAPI's features page lists two automatic documentation interfaces: Swagger UI, for interactive exploration and test calls from the browser, and ReDoc. Plenty of API hosts in our crawl serve a stock Swagger UI page: 238 domains have a front page titled just "Swagger UI", the default, which usually means nobody renamed the docs.

How does TechnologyChecker.io detect Swagger UI?

We count a domain when its front page loads Swagger UI's script, defines its SwaggerUIBundle object, or carries a stylesheet with Swagger UI's class names. Because some themes and widgets ship those class names without Swagger UI, we removed 375 such domains, mostly Hugo Docsy sites and church sites embedding ChurchTools, leaving 3,094. How We Counted has the detail.
