Companies Using Glyphicons

Glyphicons is a fossil, and fossils are useful if you know how to read them. Our October 2026 crawl finds a page linking a stylesheet called glyphicons.css or glyphicons.min.css on 12,782 live domains once one platform's sites are set aside, 0.06% of Font Services and 13th of 25. I treat this list as a map of websites that were built around 2013 to 2017 and haven't been rebuilt since. For anyone selling redesigns, migrations or modern front-end tooling, that is a prospect list with a reason attached.

What the rule counts, and what it misses

Bootstrap 3 shipped about 250 Glyphicons Halflings icons for free; its documentation says the creator made them available to Bootstrap at no cost. Bootstrap 4 removed them in 2018. The catch is that Bootstrap 3's main stylesheet carries the font itself, so a stock Bootstrap 3 site never loads a separate glyphicons file and isn't in this count. What we see are sites that load Glyphicons on its own. In a random sample of 400 domains, 29 served the font from GetCourse's asset path; of the other 371, 312 showed the stylesheet in their HTML. 100 loaded a copy of Bootstrap's own Glyphicons file, 57 of them from BootstrapCDN's Bootstrap 3.0.0 folder. 105 got it from WordPress, mostly the Responsive Menu Pro and Formidable Bootstrap plugins (29 each). Only 8 used a paid set from glyphicons.com.

Sales signal: on most of these sites nobody chose Glyphicons. A plugin or template did. Pitch the site's age and the plugin's age, not the icon font.

The platform we set aside

Our raw crawl finds the stylesheet on 14,474 domains. 1,657 of them are GetCourse schools. GetCourse is a Russian platform for online schools, and it serves its pages with Glyphicons on each school's own domain: 836 of those domains show nothing but its login screen, "Страница входа", and the rest load its scripts from getcourse.ru. The platform loads the font, not the school, so we removed all of them. Only 201 domains in the clean count still end in .ru.

Exits

The usage chart has one point, because the GetCourse correction applies to our current crawl. Any monthly change in a count like this mixes two causes on our side, the domains we crawl turning over and our detection widening, so the exits are the better guide. 1,275 domains dropped Glyphicons on at least one hostname since we began tracking it on 16 March 2026; 173 still load it elsewhere, so about 1,100 sites lost it entirely in seven months, mostly through redesigns or closure.

Sales signal: every month a few hundred of these sites are rebuilt or switched off. The owners still running a 2015 front end are the ones an agency can reach first.

Who still runs it

61.63% of matched companies have 1 to 10 staff, and only 10.08% were founded in the 2020s. Real Estate leads the industries at 10.62%, a sign of agency templates reused across estate-agency sites. The large organisations are the more interesting half. 144 companies have more than 1,000 staff, and in our list 29 of the 40 that size load Glyphicons on a subdomain, usually one application: Correios on its export portal, Kelly Services on a science and engineering jobs site built from a HubSpot theme, SMRT on its journey planner, the City of Phoenix on myPHX311. QIAGEN and FiberCop load it on their main sites. The University of Connecticut is the biggest single owner: a paid Glyphicons file set runs across 178 uconn.edu subsites from one shared WordPress install.

Sales signal: at enterprises, the buyer is the owner of the legacy application, often in IT or digital services, not the brand team. Ask which portal it is before you pitch.

Where it lives

The United States has 2,077 matched companies, but Brazil is second with 1,013, ahead of Germany (622), France (550) and Spain (469). In our sample, Brazilian property and print-shop sites often load the font from the same few template paths. Government and universities are steady customers everywhere: the City of Brussels, the Delhi High Court, UNC Greensboro.

Sales signal: for web agencies, Brazil and the Iberian markets carry a large stock of template-built sites due for an upgrade.

Overlap, not switching

None of the rival pairs passes our switching tests. 8,602 Glyphicons domains also run Font Awesome today, out of 9,441 ever seen with both, and 8,952 run Google Font API. Bootstrap Icons, Glyphicons' successor in Bootstrap, sits on only 428. Since March, 267 domains dropped Glyphicons and kept Font Awesome, while 172 went the other way, a ratio I wouldn't build a pitch on. What the overlap shows is accumulation: sites add a newer set and never remove the old stylesheet.

Sales signal: performance and accessibility tools have an easy opening here. Two icon fonts and a jQuery stack are measurable waste.

The stack around it

jQuery runs on 98.29% of the 12,782 domains in our stack analysis, jQuery Migrate on 57.63% and jQuery UI on 35.94%. WordPress is on 44.63%. Where we read a Bootstrap version, 4,436 domains run Bootstrap 3, 1,814 Bootstrap 4 and 871 Bootstrap 5. Cloudflare fronts 30.13% and cdnjs serves files to 21.22%.

Sales signal: jQuery Migrate on more than half the base means plugins written for jQuery 1.x are still in use. That is a security and maintenance conversation, not a design one.

What it costs

The Halflings icons in Bootstrap 3 cost nothing. glyphicons.com (checked 14 October 2026) sells the full sets on a buy-once licence: the Basic set of 1,060+ icons for $149 and the Halflings set of 330+ icons for $45. Its licence allows unlimited projects but forbids bundling the icons into themes or frameworks.
