Companies Using ElasticSuite

Our October 2026 crawl finds ElasticSuite on 4,387 live domains, and nearly all of them are Magento stores. Magento runs on 79.17% of them, and 32.98% also use the Hyvä theme, which ElasticSuite integrates with officially. ElasticSuite is the open-source search and merchandising module that Smile built for Magento 2. It isn't Elastic Suite, the B2B wholesale ordering platform with a near-identical name. Below is the list of companies that use ElasticSuite, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes Philips' AED shop, Lidl Switzerland's product catalogue, Biocoop, ÖBB's fan shop and the bakery chain Paul.

It ranks 8th of the 58 technologies we track in Site Search, with 2.61%. Read the count as stores, not paying customers. The tracker we detect ships in the free module, so free and paid installs look the same, and a few owners run many domains: PRO&Cie's franchise shops account for 131 and Do it Best member stores for 115. The companies behind the domains lean industrial. Manufacturing, wholesale and building-materials wholesale together make up 21.08% of matched companies, more than retail's 18.64%.

ElasticSuite Usage Statistics

One point: 4,387 live domains in October 2026, counted after removing copies of another store's site and for-sale or gambling pages, as described at the end of this page. Earlier monthly totals included those pages, so the chart starts here. Month-to-month totals aren't like-for-like anyway: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. Since we began tracking it in March 2026, 677 domains have dropped it. 114 of the domains behind that figure still run it on another hostname, so the number that left entirely is closer to 560.

List of Companies Using ElasticSuite

Who uses ElasticSuite? This list of companies that use ElasticSuite names 50 of the 2,725 matched companies. I loaded each page in a browser in October 2026: 37 showed ElasticSuite's tracker script, its module files or a tracker hit, and the other 13 blocked automated visits or timed out. Many rows are a storefront rather than a company's main site, such as aedshop.philips.com, shop.oebb.at or b2b.upperdeck.com, so the ElasticSuite customer is often the team that runs one shop.

Which Countries Use ElasticSuite the Most?

Which countries use ElasticSuite the most? The United States has the most matched companies, 386, then the Netherlands (327), Germany (306), Australia (303), the United Kingdom (287) and France (216). Add up the European countries in the table and they reach 1,604, about four times the US figure. Two owners lift the non-European rows: 79 of the US companies are Do it Best member hardware stores, and 69 of the Australian ones are branch domains that forward to the MMEM group's AWM and TLE pages. These counts cover the 2,725 domains we matched to a company.

ElasticSuite Market Share Among Site Search

What is ElasticSuite's market share? 2.61% of Site Search, 8th of the 58 technologies we track there, counting live domains at TechnologyChecker.io. The table mixes kinds of product. Algolia (22.92%) and Doofinder (8.17%) are hosted services that plug into any shop platform. ElasticSuite only runs inside Magento, where it takes over the catalogue search and category ranking. Inside that market it is common: its 4,387 domains compare with the 58,347 live domains on our Magento profile (August 2026), or roughly one Magento store in 17.

ElasticSuite Customers by Company Size & Age

What size companies use ElasticSuite? Mostly small and mid-sized ones. 41.65% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees, 29.41% have 11 to 50 and 16.74% have 51 to 200. 74 companies have more than 1,000 staff, and they tend to run it on one storefront rather than the corporate site: Philips on its AED shop, ÖBB on its fan shop, Calor on its appliance shop, Lidl Switzerland on its product catalogue.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

The founding years run across more than a century. The 2010s lead with 19.5% and the 2000s follow with 18.24%, but 18.02% of matched companies were founded before 1960, almost as many as in either recent decade. Only 4.73% date from the 2020s. Old manufacturers and distributors with big catalogues explain the tail: Qlar (1881), Paul (1889), TricorBraun (1902) and Soprema (1908) are all on the list.

What Industries Use ElasticSuite the Most?

Retail leads at 18.64%, followed by Manufacturing (8.46%), Wholesale (8.2%) and Wholesale Building Materials (4.42%), based on our enriched company data. Put the three trade categories together and they reach 21.08%, ahead of retail. ElasticSuite's virtual categories and ranking rules are built for big catalogues, and a distributor with thousands of part numbers needs them as much as a shop does.

Manufacturers using ElasticSuite include Qlar on its online shop, BRAND on its laboratory-equipment shop and TricorBraun on its packaging catalogue. Building-materials companies on ElasticSuite include Soprema in France and Canada and Edilians, the French roof-tile maker. Retailers using ElasticSuite range from Biocoop's organic grocery to Kasanova's housewares stores in Italy.

ElasticSuite Alternatives & Competitors

The rows above ElasticSuite are mostly a layer it can sit under. A Magento store can keep ElasticSuite as its catalogue engine and put a hosted search box on top, and the overlaps show it: 206 domains run ElasticSuite and Doofinder today, out of 216 that ever ran both, and 63 run it with Algolia, out of 78. Luigi's Box sits on 52 ElasticSuite domains and Klevu on 37. MageWorx Search Autocomplete (0.97%) is the closest like-for-like rival, another Magento extension, and shares 28 domains with ElasticSuite. Klevu's row is the count after its own page removed copies of other stores' sites.

How We Counted ElasticSuite Customers

A domain counts here if a page on it loads ElasticSuite's tracker script (a file under a Smile_ElasticsuiteTracker path), creates the tracker's smileTracker object, or sets the tracker's two cookies, STUID and STVID. The cookie test is the weak one, since other software could use the same names, so I checked it on a random sample of 40 counted domains in October 2026. 27 pages loaded; 26 of them showed the tracker script, ElasticSuite's module files or a tracker hit, and one showed nothing. The cookies turned up on 7, always next to the tracker's files. The other 13 blocked automated visits or didn't answer.

Our crawl found the tracker on 4,541 live domains. Before computing anything we removed 154 that aren't ElasticSuite customers. 127 were expired domains serving copies of Planet Gadget's online store, loading Planet Gadget's own theme files, tracker included, from its host; 57 of them also carried a gambling or for-sale page title. 27 more were for-sale or gambling pages. Every chart and table on this page uses the remaining 4,387. Our Site Search category table hasn't had this correction and lists ElasticSuite at 4,526 with 2.69%; the rank, 8th, is the same either way. A plain fetch of every counted homepage in October 2026 found about a dozen more gambling or copied pages, under 0.3% of the count.

One owner can account for many domains. PRO&Cie's franchise shop pages make up 131, Do it Best member hardware stores that forward to the co-op's site 115, the MMEM group's Australian branch domains 75, Pharmacie Lafayette 33, OTC Industrial Technologies 26 and Verlagshaus24 21: 401 domains for six owners, about 9% of the count. They stay in because each one does run ElasticSuite (we could not load Do it Best's site, which blocks automated browsers), but read them as six customers. And because the tracker ships in the free, open-source module, this page counts ElasticSuite installs, not subscriptions to a paid plan.

Expert Analysis: ElasticSuite Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

I pulled ElasticSuite out of our October 2026 crawl to answer a simple question: how many Magento stores run Smile's search module? The answer is 4,387 live domains, 2,725 of them matched to a company, 8th of 58 in Site Search. We count a domain when a page loads the module's tracker script, creates its tracker object or sets its two cookies. The cookie test is the shaky one, so I opened 40 counted domains at random: of the 27 that loaded, 26 showed the tracker or the module's files. I also loaded the 50 companies listed on this page. 37 showed ElasticSuite and 13 blocked automated visits or timed out; five earlier rows didn't hold up (two were matched to the wrong organisation, three no longer showed the module) and were replaced.

A catalogue engine, not a search box

Most of the products in Site Search are hosted services: you add a script and the vendor answers the queries. ElasticSuite is different. It is a Magento 2 module that replaces the platform's catalogue search and category ranking, running on the merchant's own Elasticsearch or OpenSearch server. That is why Magento runs on 79.17% of the domains and Adobe Commerce on 2.48%, while Shopify barely registers at 0.59%. Against the 58,347 live domains on our Magento profile (August 2026), ElasticSuite is on roughly one Magento store in 17. Since March 2026, 677 domains have dropped it, but 114 of the domains behind that figure still run it on another hostname.

"In the Site Search table ElasticSuite looks small, at 2.61%. Inside Magento it isn't: we find it on roughly one Magento store in 17." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: an ElasticSuite domain is a Magento shop with an engineering budget, because someone installed a Magento module and runs a search server for it. That makes it a good list for Magento hosting, OpenSearch support and replatforming pitches, and a poor one for plug-and-play Shopify apps.

Hyvä is the other half of the stack

Hyvä, the lightweight Magento theme, announced an official ElasticSuite integration, and the crawl shows how far that pairing has spread. 32.98% of ElasticSuite domains run the Hyvä theme, 36.31% load Alpine.js and 43.10% load Tailwind CSS, the two libraries Hyvä is built on. Several of the stores I opened serve the tracker from a Hyvä theme folder, PRO&Cie's among them.

Sales signal: Hyvä agencies and Hyvä-compatible extension vendors will find a dense list here. A store on Hyvä has rebuilt its front end at some point, so it is also a fair target for performance and conversion tooling.

Catalogue sellers and old companies

41.65% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 29.41% have 11 to 50, close to Luigi's Box's 40.54% at the smallest band. The industries are where ElasticSuite differs. Retail leads with 18.64%, but Manufacturing (8.46%), Wholesale (8.2%) and Wholesale Building Materials (4.42%) add up to 21.08%. The founding years agree: 18.02% were founded before 1960 and only 4.73% in the 2020s. Qlar, BRAND, TricorBraun, Soprema and OTC Industrial are B2B catalogue businesses, and Upper Deck runs it on its B2B ordering site. The 74 companies above 1,000 staff mostly use it on one storefront: Philips' AED shop, ÖBB's fan shop, Calor's appliance shop, Lidl Switzerland's product catalogue.

Sales signal: pitch B2B commerce features (customer-specific pricing, quick order, PIM and ERP connectors) to the manufacturing and wholesale rows, and at large companies find the owner of the specific shop rather than central IT.

Europe first, and six owners to dedupe

The United States has the most matched companies, 386, but the Netherlands (327), Germany (306), the United Kingdom (287), France (216) and Belgium (159) together outnumber it more than three to one, and all European countries in the table reach 1,604. Australia's 303 includes 69 branch domains of one wholesale group, MMEM, that forward to its AWM and TLE pages, and the US figure includes 79 Do it Best member stores. Owners like that matter: PRO&Cie's franchise shops are 131 domains, Do it Best's member stores 115, Pharmacie Lafayette 33, OTC Industrial 26 and Verlagshaus24 21. Those six owners hold 401 domains, about 9% of the count.

Sales signal: dedupe by redirect target before you size a territory. Six accounts look like 401 rows, and a franchise network is one buying decision.

The search box on top

The overlaps with hosted search point the same way. 206 domains run ElasticSuite and Doofinder today, out of 216 that ever ran both; 63 run it with Algolia (out of 78), 52 with Luigi's Box and 37 with Klevu (out of 68). Our switching tests publish no corridor for any of these pairs, because most domains that ever ran both still do. PRO&Cie is the clearest case: its shop pages load ElasticSuite's tracker, and Doofinder's profile counts the same 131 domains under one Doofinder account.

"When a Magento merchant adds a hosted search box, ElasticSuite usually stays. Of 216 domains ever seen with ElasticSuite and Doofinder, 206 still run both." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: for a hosted search vendor, these stores already accept a second search layer, so the pitch is the autocomplete and merchandising UI, not ripping out the catalogue engine. For ElasticSuite's team, the 206 Doofinder stores are the obvious upsell list for its own instant search.

What it costs

The module is open source under OSL-3.0 on GitHub, where the README marks the recommendations engine and behavioural ranking as premium-only. The pricing page (October 2026) lists Free at €0 and self-hosted, Growth from €415 a month, Business from €999 a month and Enterprise on request, shown on a default three-year term, with a fixed licence that doesn't rise with traffic or catalogue size. Our crawl can't separate free installs from paid ones.

Sales signal: treat the list as installs of a free engine. The ones worth calling about a paid plan are stores that already pay for a second search vendor or sell large catalogues, the two groups most likely to want AI ranking and recommendations.

Key takeaways

1. 4,387 live domains, 8th of 58 in Site Search, on roughly one Magento store in 17.

2. A Magento-only catalogue engine: Magento on 79.17%, Hyvä on 32.98%.

3. More B2B than Klevu or Luigi's Box: manufacturing and wholesale categories at 21.08%, and 18.02% of companies founded before 1960.

4. Hosted search sometimes sits on top, and both stay: 206 of 216 ElasticSuite and Doofinder domains still run both.

5. Six owners hold 401 domains, and free installs can't be told from paid ones.

How many customers does ElasticSuite have?

That is domains, not paying customers: the free open-source module carries the same tracker as the paid plans, and some owners run many domains, such as PRO&Cie's 131 franchise shops. Algolia leads the table with 22.92% and Doofinder has 8.17%, but those are hosted services for any platform, while ElasticSuite only runs inside Magento. Against the 58,347 live domains on our Magento profile, it is on roughly one Magento store in 17.

What are the best alternatives to ElasticSuite?

On Magento, the closest match is another extension, such as MageWorx Search Autocomplete or Magento's own built-in search. Hosted services are the other route: Doofinder, Algolia, Klevu and Luigi's Box all sell a search box that can run on top of ElasticSuite, and 206 domains run ElasticSuite and Doofinder together today. Outside Magento, its maker sells Gally.

Which countries use ElasticSuite the most?

The United States has 386 matched companies, then the Netherlands (327), Germany (306), Australia (303), the United Kingdom (287) and France (216). Is ElasticSuite free?

The core module is. Smile publishes ElasticSuite on GitHub under the OSL-3.0 open-source licence, and the vendor's pricing page lists a Free plan at €0, self-hosted, with community support. Paid plans add hosted options, AI ranking, recommendations and support. Our crawl can't tell the two apart, because the tracker we detect ships in the free module. Checked October 2026.

How much does ElasticSuite cost?

ElasticSuite's pricing page lists four plans: Free at €0, Growth from €415 a month, Business from €999 a month and Enterprise on request, shown on its default three-year term, which it says saves up to 20%. The price is a fixed licence that doesn't change with traffic, catalogue size or search volume, according to the same page. Checked October 2026.

Is ElasticSuite the same as Elastic Suite?

No. ElasticSuite (elasticsuite.io) is the Magento search and merchandising module built by Smile. Elastic Suite (elasticsuite.com) is an unrelated B2B wholesale ordering platform for brands, and it ranks first when you search the name. Neither is Elastic, the company behind Elasticsearch, although ElasticSuite runs on Elasticsearch or OpenSearch underneath. Check the domain before comparing reviews.

Does ElasticSuite work with Hyvä?

Yes. Hyvä announced an official integration with ElasticSuite, installed through a compatibility module, covering autocomplete, search results, virtual categories and layered navigation. In our crawl, 32.98% of ElasticSuite domains also run the Hyvä theme and 43.10% load Tailwind CSS, which Hyvä is built on. So on about a third of ElasticSuite stores, the storefront is a Hyvä theme.

ElasticSuite vs Algolia: what is the difference?

ElasticSuite is a Magento module that runs on your own Elasticsearch or OpenSearch server and is free in its open-source form. Algolia is a hosted search API that works on any platform, so the index lives on Algolia's servers. Some stores use both: 63 domains run ElasticSuite and Algolia today, out of 78 that ever ran both. Algolia holds 22.92% of Site Search; ElasticSuite 2.61%.

Does ElasticSuite work outside Magento?

ElasticSuite itself is a Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce module; our crawl finds Magento on 79.17% of its domains and Adobe Commerce on 2.48%. For other platforms its maker offers Gally, a standalone version launched in 2023 that connects to other e-commerce systems, and its site lists Shopware and Sylius alongside Magento. We don't count Gally on this page.

Who makes ElasticSuite?

Smile, a European open-source company, created it: first as an Elasticsearch connector for Magento 1 in 2013, then as ElasticSuite for Magento 2 in 2016, according to the product's company page. A paid Premium version followed in 2020. The project is maintained on GitHub, and the product site is now published as Elastic Suite Group.
