Companies Using Optimole
Our October 2026 crawl finds Optimole on 13,788 live domains, and almost all of them are WordPress sites: WordPress runs on 99.2% of the cleaned set. One account stands apart. BrightFire, which builds websites for insurance agencies, serves the images on 1,313 agency sites from its own Optimole account, about one domain in ten. Below is the list of companies that use Optimole, with size, country and industry. Organisations running it on their own accounts include The Hackett Group, Vensure Employer Services, Bloodworks Northwest, The Wine Group and Squire's Garden Centres.
Apart from BrightFire the base is very spread out. The 9,959 cleaned domains whose account we could see use 8,887 different Optimole accounts, and the largest, a Dutch web agency's, covers 50 sites. Optimole ranks 4th of 42 technologies in Digital Asset Management with a 12.07% share. The charts below leave out the BrightFire sites and 20 for-sale or gambling pages, so they describe 12,313 domains.

Optimole Usage Statistics
Optimole went from 11,829 live domains in June 2026 to 13,788 in October, with most of the rise between June and July (13,270) and a small dip from September's 13,900. Read the June-to-July step as a change on our side rather than a burst of sign-ups: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, dead sites out and new ones in, and our detection widened. 2,430 domains dropped Optimole on at least one hostname since we began tracking it on 16 March 2026.

Which Countries Use Optimole the Most?
Which countries use Optimole the most? The United States has 1,918 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (728), the Netherlands (425), France (410), and Germany and India (374 each). Add up the European countries in our top 15 and they hold 2,793, well above the US. That spread matches a WordPress plugin sold worldwide and installed site by site, often by local web agencies.
Share of the 8,031 Optimole domains we matched to a company record — 58.2% of the 13,788 we detect. Top 15 countries shown, so these do not sum to 100%. Domains with no matching company record are not represented here and skew small and independent.

Optimole Customers by Company Size & Age
What size companies use Optimole? Small ones, overwhelmingly. 72.0% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 20.07% have 11 to 50, so 92.07% have 50 staff or fewer. Only 43 have more than 1,000. The large names here, such as The Hackett Group, Vensure and The Wine Group, run Optimole on a marketing site built in WordPress rather than across a whole estate.
Company Size Distribution
Company Age (Founded Decade)
The biggest group of matched companies was founded in the 2010s (41.27%), and another 25.62% in the 2020s, so two thirds are from 2010 or later. The 2000s add 16.52%. The older end includes Milligan University (1866), Smith System (1905), Cairn University (1913) and Bloodworks Northwest (1944), all on WordPress sites that load Optimole.
What Industries Use Optimole the Most?
Construction leads at 4.9%, with Business Consulting (4.87%) and Advertising Services (4.84%) close behind, then IT Services (3.93%), based on our enriched company data. No industry reaches 5%. Advertising this high usually means agencies putting the plugin on their own sites as well as clients'. Insurance still shows 2.11% after the 1,313 BrightFire agency sites are taken out.
Construction companies using Optimole include Donley's, the Cleveland concrete contractor. Agencies using Optimole on their own sites include Incubeta, Imagination and the healthcare marketer Unlock Health. Universities on Optimole are a visible cluster: Cairn, Milligan, the University of New York in Prague and Pensacola Christian College's news site.
Optimole Alternatives & Competitors
The table ranks by domains, and it compares Optimole with tools that do other jobs. Adobe Dynamic Media Classic (7,026) is Adobe's image server for large companies, and Nextcloud (3,903) is an open-source file sync server that companies host themselves. Canva and Dropbox are design and file-sharing tools; 14 domains run Canva alongside Optimole. ImageKit, an image CDN for custom-built sites, shares no live domain with Optimole and has shared five. Optimole's real competition sits in our performance category: EWWW Image Optimizer counts 131,888 domains on its profile, Smush Pro 34,791 and ShortPixel 2,977.

How We Counted Optimole Customers
A domain counts here if a page loads a script from an Optimole delivery host, which always has the form <account>.i.optimole.com, or defines optimoleData, the settings object Optimole's WordPress plugin writes into the page. The headline, 13,788, counts every live domain that passes that test in our October 2026 crawl, and it is the figure our category table uses.
The charts and tables use a narrower base. From the 13,646 live domains in our data pull we removed 1,313 that load Optimole from one account, mlxwx3bywoz1, and 20 with for-sale or gambling page titles, leaving 12,313. The 1,313 are independent insurance agencies' websites built by BrightFire. Their titles follow one pattern ("Edinburgh Insurance | Insuring Edinburgh & Indiana"), their footers credit "BrightFire, Websites for Insurance", and their hostnames point at BrightFire's hosting. Each agency has a real site, but the decision to use Optimole was BrightFire's, so we count it once in the text and leave the agencies out of the distributions.
We also checked who holds the accounts in what remains. Of the 12,313, we could read the account on 9,959, and they use 8,887 different accounts. The largest after BrightFire's belongs to a Dutch web agency and covers 50 sites; the next ones, with 36 down to 16 sites each, are agencies serving Lehigh Valley businesses, Finnish companies, senior-living groups and US churches. No other account reaches 0.5% of the base.
Expert Analysis: Optimole Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Optimole is one of the easier technologies to audit, because every customer leaves a fingerprint: its images load from a subdomain unique to the account, so I can see who bought it as well as where it runs. Our October 2026 crawl finds it on 13,788 live domains. Reading the accounts behind them turned up one large platform customer and thousands of very small ones, and very little in between.
One platform, then everyone else
BrightFire builds WordPress sites for independent insurance agencies, and it serves every agency's images through one Optimole account. Our crawl finds that account on 1,313 domains, about 9.5% of the headline, each an agency titled "Insuring" its home town. The sites don't hide it: their footers credit "BrightFire, Websites for Insurance", their theme is called hello-brightfire, and their www hostnames point at BrightFire's hosting. The agencies are real businesses with real sites, but none of them chose an image CDN. We keep them in the headline and leave them out of the charts. In the 12,313 domains that remain, we could read the account on 9,959, and they use 8,887 different accounts. The largest, a Dutch agency's, covers 50 sites.
Sales signal: for BrightFire's agencies, the buyer is BrightFire. For everyone else, the buyer is the site owner or the agency that built the site, and those are worth separating before outreach.
A gentle curve, read with care
The chart rises from 11,829 domains in June to 13,788 in October, most of it between June and July. That step comes from our side as much as the market's: the domains we crawl turn over every month, dead sites out and new ones in, and our detection widened over the summer. Since September the line has been flat, at 13,900 then 13,788. Exits we can count: 2,430 domains dropped Optimole on at least one hostname since 16 March 2026; in a recount on 14 October, 196 of 2,434 such domains still ran it on another hostname.
"Optimole is a rare case where the account is visible on every site. Outside one insurance-website platform, almost every account serves a single site." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: a flat line on a base this fragmented means sites leaving and joining at about the same rate. It doesn't signal decline.
Who the customers are
72.0% of matched companies have 1 to 10 employees, and two thirds were founded in 2010 or later. Industries are flat: construction leads at 4.9%, and no industry reaches 5%. Europe matters more than for most US-made tools: the European countries in our top 15 hold 2,793 matched companies to the United States' 1,918, with the UK (728) and the Netherlands (425) strongest. Larger names use Optimole on WordPress marketing sites: The Hackett Group, Vensure Employer Services, BCI, Varex Imaging and The Wine Group all run it under their own accounts.
Sales signal: the typical buyer is a small firm or its agency in the US, UK or Benelux. Enterprise logos exist, but they are single marketing sites, so pitch the web team that runs the marketing site.
Agencies hold many of the keys
When I checked our top candidates, about one in five loaded images from an account shared with unrelated companies: a church-website agency with 19 client sites, a senior-living marketer with 20, Finnish agencies with 22 and 19. Those sites are real Optimole users, but the agency chose the tool and pays for it. We dropped them from the named list for that reason. Advertising Services at 4.84% of matched companies points the same way.
Sales signal: agency accounts are the efficient target. One agency decision moves 20 to 50 sites at once.
Switching: no corridor to speak of
Our switching table for Optimole is empty. ImageKit, the only other image CDN in the category, shares no live domains with it and has shared 5. Canva runs alongside Optimole on 14 domains, but a design tool doesn't replace an image CDN. The real alternatives are other WordPress plugins, which sit in our performance category: EWWW Image Optimizer counts 131,888 domains on its profile, Smush Pro 34,791 and ShortPixel 2,977.
"Optimole's competition isn't in its own category table. It's the other image plugins in the WordPress dashboard." - Emma Davies, Data Analyst at TechnologyChecker.io
Sales signal: win-backs and displacements happen inside WordPress, plugin against plugin, usually when a site outgrows a free tier.
The stack around it
Across 12,310 clean live domains, WordPress runs on 99.2%, Elementor on 45.69% and Divi on 8.16%. WooCommerce is on 17.2%, Google Analytics on 56.78%, and Cloudflare fronts 25.98%. Hostinger's CDN on 6.3% points to shared hosting for part of the base. Consent banners come from WordPress plugins too, CookieYes (8.26%) and Complianz (7.46%).
Sales signal: anything sold as a WordPress plugin fits this base. Elementor sites are the single largest segment to target.
What Optimole says, and what we see
Optimole's pricing page cites 200,000+ active installs on WordPress.org and lists Starter at $22.90 a month for 48,000 visits, Business at $46.90 and Flexible from $109 (rendered 14 October 2026). Its WordPress.org listing describes a free plan for up to 2,000 visits a month. An install count includes sites that never connect an account; we count 13,788 live domains serving images through the CDN.
Sales signal: the 2,000-visit free limit is the upgrade trigger. Sites growing past it are the ones weighing a paid plan or a rival.
Key takeaways

3. Small, WordPress-only and European-leaning: 72.0% have 1 to 10 staff, 99.2% run WordPress.

Who uses Optimole?
Mostly small businesses on WordPress, plus a long tail of larger organisations' marketing sites. A plugin install isn't the same as a live site loading images through Optimole's CDN, which is what we count. 2,430 domains have dropped it since March 2026.
What is Optimole's market share?
12.07% of Digital Asset Management, 4th of 42 technologies by domain count at TechnologyChecker.io. Canva (25,215 domains), ImageKit (21,263) and Box (19,121) are larger, and Dropbox (8,237) and Adobe Dynamic Media Classic (7,026) follow. On WordPress, the usual alternatives are other image plugins: EWWW Image Optimizer (131,888 domains in our crawl), Smush Pro (34,791) and ShortPixel (2,977), plus Imagify. Outside WordPress, ImageKit and Cloudinary do the same CDN job for custom-built sites. Only 5 domains have ever run both Optimole and ImageKit, so the two rarely compete for the same site.
Which countries use Optimole the most?
The United States leads with 1,918 matched companies, followed by the United Kingdom (728), the Netherlands (425), France (410) and Germany and India (374 each). Together the European countries in our top 15 hold 2,793 matched companies, well above the US. That pattern fits a WordPress plugin installed one site at a time, often by local web agencies.
What size companies use Optimole?
Small ones. 72.0% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 20.07% have 11 to 50, so 92.07% have 50 or fewer. Only 43 have more than 1,000 staff, among them The Hackett Group, Vensure, The Wine Group and Varex Imaging, which use Optimole on a WordPress marketing site rather than everywhere.
How old are companies that use Optimole?
Mostly young. 41.27% of matched companies were founded in the 2010s and 25.62% in the 2020s, so 66.89% date from 2010 or later; the 2000s add 16.52%. The older end is varied: Milligan University (1866), Smith System (1905), Cairn University (1913) and Bloodworks Northwest (1944) all serve their WordPress images through Optimole.
What is the ideal customer profile for Optimole?
On our data, a small business or agency client with 1 to 10 staff, running WordPress with a page builder such as Elementor (45.69% of domains), often WooCommerce (17.2%), in the US, UK or western Europe. Is Optimole free?
Yes, for small sites. The Optimole listing on WordPress.org (checked 14 October 2026) describes a free plan with all features for sites with up to 2,000 visits a month, with unlimited image optimisations within that limit. Bigger sites need a paid plan, starting with Starter at $22.90 a month for 48,000 visits, according to Optimole's pricing page on the same date.
What is Optimole used for?
Compressing, resizing and serving WordPress images from a CDN. The plugin rewrites image URLs to an Optimole host, scales each image to the visitor's screen, converts to WebP or AVIF, and lazy-loads, per its WordPress.org listing. That rewritten host is what our crawl detects: every Optimole account has its own subdomain, so we can tell whose account a site uses.
Does Optimole only work with WordPress?
In practice, nearly. WordPress runs on 99.2% of the 12,310 cleaned domains where we find Optimole, and the Elementor builder on 45.69%. On the other 0.8% we couldn't confirm WordPress from outside the site. Optimole's WordPress.org listing also describes a free plan for sites with up to 2,000 visits a month.
Optimole vs ShortPixel: which do sites use more?
On our counts, Optimole: 13,788 live domains serve images through Optimole's CDN, while ShortPixel's profile counts 2,977 domains. Both are WordPress image plugins, and few sites run more than one image optimiser for long. The larger WordPress rivals in our crawl are EWWW Image Optimizer, with 131,888 domains, and Smush Pro, with 34,791, so Optimole is mid-sized among them.
Why do so many insurance agency sites use Optimole?
Because one platform builds them. BrightFire makes WordPress websites for independent insurance agencies, credits itself in their footers as "Websites for Insurance", and serves all their images from a single Optimole account. Our crawl finds that account on 1,313 agency domains, about 9.5% of Optimole's 13,788. We keep them in the headline and leave them out of the charts.
