Companies Using Volusion
Our August 2026 crawl finds 2,188 domains running Volusion, and unlike many entries on this site that number is a straight census rather than a floor. Volusion serves every storefront from its own template system, so a live store cannot hide the platform: the markup carries Volusion asset paths on every page. Across the domains we currently track, the signal resolves the same way on 99.9% of repeat scans, which is about as close to deterministic as web detection gets.
Of those domains, 1,409 match a company record, a 63.4% enrichment rate that makes the distributions below unusually solid for a base this size. They describe a very specific business: 96% of matched customers employ fewer than 50 people and 90.5% are in the United States. There is no estate effect inflating that picture either. Across enriched domains we count 1,403 distinct companies behind 1,405 domains, a ratio of 1.001 to 1, so one domain really does mean one merchant here.
Read the category ranking with care. Volusion sits 84th of 100 in Ecommerce Platforms at 0.03% share, but that table mixes store platforms with Shopify add-ons: Instafeed ranks 5th on 146,838 domains and Hextom 8th on 46,764, and neither is a place to build a shop. The comparisons that mean something are the platform ones. BigCommerce runs 24,308 domains to Volusion's 2,188, an 11 to 1 gap between two products that launched into the same market a decade apart.

Volusion Usage Statistics
How many websites use Volusion? Our current crawl detects it on 2,188 domains. The series here starts from a single detection in July 2005 and climbs through the platform's growth years. Treat it as a trend rather than a same-domain comparison: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly discovered ones added, and our detection signals widen over time.

There are 2,188 companies and websites using Volusion, sign up to download the entire Volusion dataset.
The pattern in this list is worth more than any single name. Nearly half of these entries run Volusion on a dedicated store subdomain, not on the main website: giftshop.torrancememorial.org, store.texasbar.com, parts.ptrco.com, consumables.alliedhightech.com. The organisation's primary site is on something else entirely, and Volusion runs the shop bolted onto the side of it.
Which Countries Use Volusion the Most?
Where are companies using Volusion located? Overwhelmingly the United States, at 1,262 of the 1,394 matched companies that publish a country, or 90.5%. Canada adds 49 and the United Kingdom 41. We have not recomputed a United States only ranking, because the platforms above Volusion in this category are heavily American too, so it would not change the picture.
Volusion Market Share Among Ecommerce Platforms
What is Volusion's market share? It holds 0.03% of the Ecommerce Platforms category and ranks 84th. That position is diluted by Shopify apps filed in the same category, so the useful readings are direct: BigCommerce is 11 times larger, and Volusion's nearest neighbours by size are single-country platforms such as Haravan in Vietnam, IdoSell in Poland and Unas in Hungary.
Top Competitors by Market Share
Volusion Customers by Company Size & Age
Is Volusion only for small businesses? On this evidence, yes. Of the 1,309 matched companies that publish a headcount, 875 employ 10 people or fewer and 381 employ 11 to 50, so 96% sit under 50 staff. Only four companies in the entire matched base employ more than 500. Shift4Shop, the closest comparable platform, is near identical at 96.2%.

Company Age (Founded Decade)
What Industries Use Volusion the Most?
What kinds of companies use Volusion? Long-tail catalogue selling. Retail leads at 17.02% of the 999 matched companies with an industry tag, followed by Wholesale at 5.01%. Below that the list turns industrial: Motor Vehicle Manufacturing, Retail Office Equipment and Machinery Manufacturing all place in the top ten.
This is a parts-and-supplies mix more than a consumer-brand mix, and it explains why the base is durable. A store selling 4,000 fasteners, exhaust components or lab consumables is a catalogue with a checkout attached. It has no design ambitions, its buyers arrive knowing the part number, and a replatforming project buys the owner very little. That is a different economic position from a fashion brand, where the storefront is the brand and a dated template is a real cost.
Volusion Alternatives & Competitors
Who are Volusion's competitors? In practice, Shopify. Of the domains we have watched drop Volusion and land on another platform we track, 26 of 34 went to Shopify and four to WooCommerce. BigCommerce is the fairer like-for-like comparison, since both are hosted American carts sold to small merchants, and it is 11 times the size.

Volusion Customer Migration
Across churn we have observed directly, the traffic is close to one way. 34 domains left Volusion for another platform we track against two that arrived, a ratio of 17 to 1. Shopify accounts for 26 of the departures. The counts are small because they cover only the churn we have watched happen since March 2026, and we would rather report that than a longer window we cannot see.

Tech Stack of Volusion-Powered Websites
Two rows here describe Volusion rather than its customers. Cloudflare Browser Insights appears on 98.07% of these domains, but on BigCommerce it is 2.73% and on Shift4Shop 0.88%, so this is Volusion's own hosting layer showing through, not 2,180 independent decisions. Ignore it and the real merchant choice is Google Analytics at 90.28%, above the 73% to 86% its peer platforms record.

Volusion Customer Reviews with Pros and Cons
Based on aggregated G2 reviews, the sample for Volusion is small, roughly nine themed mentions in total, so read it as direction rather than weight. The split is consistent: reviewers praise how quickly a non-technical owner can get a catalogue running and how clean the admin is, and criticise the template system, third-party integration limits and the pace of platform development.
Generated from real user reviews on G2
- Reviewers consistently single out ease of use, describing Volusion as straightforward to run day to day without technical help.(2 reviews)
- The back end admin is praised as clean and intuitive, with reviewers finding their way around the interface quickly.(1 reviews)
- Reviewers value having payment setup and inventory tracking handled inside one system rather than assembled from separate tools.(1 reviews)
- Getting a store live is described as a fast initial setup, which matters for owners who are building the shop themselves.(1 reviews)
- Integration limits are the most common complaint, with reviewers finding it hard to extend the store using third-party apps.(1 reviews)
- Reviewers describe limited customisation, asking for more modern templates and more room to make a storefront distinctive.(1 reviews)
- Some reviewers consider the software dated, comparing it unfavourably with newer platforms such as Shopify.(1 reviews)
- Template constraints come up repeatedly, with reviewers wanting more contemporary designs than the built-in themes provide.(1 reviews)
Expert Analysis: Volusion Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Volusion is the cleanest measurement subject I have worked with on this site, and that is worth saying before anything else. Most technology pages here carry a caveat about what the number can and cannot see. A tag that loads only after consent. A product whose core runs in a back office and leaves nothing on the page. Volusion has none of that. It is a fully hosted platform that renders every storefront from its own template system, so the asset paths are in the served HTML on every page of every store. Across our current base the signal resolves the same way on 99.9% of repeat scans. When we say 2,188 domains, we mean 2,188 domains.
I checked it anyway. We pulled a random sample of 60 active domains and fetched each one at the exact address where the platform was detected, which matters more than it sounds. My first pass fetched the apex domain and came back with a confirmation rate near 78%, which looked like a data quality problem. It was not. It was my method. A large share of Volusion deployments sit on a store subdomain, and checking the wrong URL finds the organisation's main website, which is usually running something else. Fetched properly, 53 of 60 were serving live Volusion markup. Four had replatformed since we last crawled them and three were unreachable.
The single most useful thing our data says about Volusion has nothing to do with its size. Of the 438 matched customers that publish a founding year, three were founded in the 2020s. Not three percent. Three companies.
That number needs a control before it means anything, because company age comes from a profile field that younger businesses fill in less often. So we ran the same query, over the same field, with the same match method, against three platforms detected the same structural way. BigCommerce records 5.63% of its base founded in the 2020s. Shift4Shop records 4.37%. Miva, which is older than Volusion, records 2.60%. Volusion records 0.68%. Shift4Shop is the tightest control of the three: its founding-year coverage is 29.8% against Volusion's 31.1%, its size profile is almost identical at 96.2% under 50 staff, and its total footprint of 2,020 domains is within a rounding error of Volusion's. It still shows six times the share of new businesses.
So the platform works, it is genuinely detectable, its customers are real, and it has very nearly stopped acquiring new ones. Those statements are all compatible, and holding them together is the whole point of the page.
Where the remaining base actually lives
The industry table reads as a parts catalogue. Retail leads at 17.02%, then Wholesale at 5.01%, and underneath that the list turns industrial in a way consumer ecommerce rarely does: Motor Vehicle Manufacturing, Retail Office Equipment, Machinery Manufacturing, Wholesale Building Materials. The named companies match it. An exhaust parts maker, a fastener warehouse, a lab consumables supplier, a CCTV equipment reseller, a firearms manufacturer, an industrial supply dealer.
These are catalogues with a checkout attached. The buyer arrives knowing the part number. The storefront is not the brand, it is a lookup table, and a dated template costs the owner close to nothing. Set that against a fashion label, where the storefront is the brand and an old design is a measurable revenue problem, and you can see why this particular base has not moved. Retail Apparel and Fashion is present at 3.6%, but it is third, not first.
The second pattern took longer to see. Roughly 43% of the largest accounts on this page run Volusion on a dedicated store subdomain rather than the main site, against 4.63% across the base as a whole. That is a nine-fold concentration at the top, and once you notice it the list reads differently. A hospital gift shop at giftshop.torrancememorial.org. A bar association's merchandise store at store.texasbar.com. A parts catalogue at parts.ptrco.com. An equipment dealer's consumables shop at consumables.alliedhightech.com.
None of these organisations chose Volusion as their web platform. They chose it as their store annex, and nobody schedules a replatforming project for the gift shop.
That is the structural reason the decline is slower than the acquisition numbers suggest. A store nobody owns strategically is a store nobody migrates. It also tells you exactly what a competitor's sales motion into this base looks like, and it is not a platform pitch. It is a conversation with whoever inherited the shop.
What we can and cannot say about churn
We have watched 101 domains drop Volusion since March 2026. Of those, 34 now run another platform we track, and Shopify accounts for 26 of them. In the other direction, two domains arrived. A ratio of 17 to 1 against is not a close contest, but I want to be precise about its limits: this is five months of observed churn, not a decade of history, and the counts are small enough that a single quarter could move them.
What the churn does not show is closure. Of the 101 domains that dropped the platform, 90 are still live sites carrying three or more detected technologies. These merchants did not go out of business, they replatformed. That distinction matters if you are selling into this base, because it means the addressable opportunity is close to the whole footprint rather than a distressed remnant of it.
Two rows on this page that describe Volusion, not its customers
The technology stack section shows Cloudflare Browser Insights on 98.07% of these domains. That is not a merchant preference. On BigCommerce the same product appears on 2.73% of domains and on Shift4Shop 0.88%, and corpus-wide it sits around 11%. A 36-fold gap over the nearest peer means we are looking at Volusion's own hosting layer, which is exactly what you would expect from a platform that controls the entire serving path.
The payment rows carry a quieter version of the same problem. Volusion shows PayPal at 45.12% and Stripe at 22.18%, against 3.96% and 0.93% on BigCommerce. Read naively that is a wild difference in merchant preference. It is far more likely to be a difference in where checkout lives, since Volusion renders checkout on the merchant's own domain where we can see it and other platforms often do not. We report Volusion's own figures and leave the cross-platform multiple alone, because the comparison is not measuring what it appears to measure.
Strip both out and one clean merchant signal remains. Google Analytics runs on 90.28% of Volusion domains, against 74.91% on BigCommerce, 73.47% on Shift4Shop and 86.14% on Miva. Same order of magnitude, a genuine and comparable choice, and Volusion is at the top of it. For a base this small and this old, near universal analytics coverage says these are operators who still measure their storefronts.
How to read the ranking
Volusion is 84th of 100 in the Ecommerce Platforms category on TechnologyChecker.io, and that number flatters nobody, including the category. The table mixes store platforms with Shopify add-ons, so Instafeed places 5th on 146,838 domains and Hextom 8th on 46,764. Neither is somewhere you can build a shop. Meanwhile Volusion's actual neighbours by size are national platforms serving one country each: Haravan in Vietnam, ColorMeShop in Japan, IdoSell in Poland, Zid in Saudi Arabia, Unas in Hungary.
That is the honest summary of where Volusion has landed. A platform that once sold internationally now measures the size of a regional cart, with 90.5% of its identifiable customers in a single country. The product still runs, the stores still take orders, and the people running them are reachable and identifiable. It is a maintenance base rather than a growth one, and for anyone selling migration services that is not a weakness in the data. It is the reason to look.

How many websites use Volusion?
Our August 2026 crawl detects Volusion on 2,188 domains. Because the platform renders every storefront from its own template system, the signal appears in the served HTML of every page, so this is a full census rather than a partial sample. The detection resolves identically on 99.9% of repeat scans.
Is Volusion still in business?
Yes. We detect 2,188 live storefronts and confirmed 53 of a random 60 domain sample serving Volusion markup when we fetched them directly. The platform is operating and its stores are taking orders. What our data shows is a base that is being maintained rather than one that is growing.
What kind of companies use Volusion?
Small American catalogue sellers. Of matched companies, 96% employ fewer than 50 people and 90.5% are in the United States. The industry mix leans to Retail at 17.02% and Wholesale at 5.01%, with a strong industrial tail covering motor vehicle parts, office equipment, machinery and building materials. Consumer fashion brands are present but rank only third.
Is Volusion losing customers to Shopify?
In the churn we have observed directly, yes. Of 34 domains that dropped Volusion and moved to another platform we track, 26 went to Shopify and four to WooCommerce. Two domains moved the other way. That is a ratio of about 17 to 1 against Volusion, measured over roughly five months.
How does Volusion compare to BigCommerce?
BigCommerce runs 24,308 domains to Volusion's 2,188, an 11 to 1 gap. Both are hosted American carts detected the same structural way, so the comparison is like for like. BigCommerce has also moved upmarket over time: 89% of its matched base employs fewer than 50 people, against Volusion's 96%, and it records eight times the share of customers founded in the 2020s.
How does Volusion compare to Shift4Shop?
They are near twins by size. Shift4Shop sits at 2,020 domains against Volusion's 2,188, and both are roughly 96% small business. The difference shows up in new customers: 4.37% of Shift4Shop's matched base was founded in the 2020s against 0.68% for Volusion, about six times the share on the same field and the same matching method.
Why does Volusion rank so low in the Ecommerce Platforms category?
Partly size and partly the category itself. It ranks 84th of 100 at 0.03% share, but that table includes Shopify add-ons rather than only store platforms: Instafeed places 5th on 146,838 domains and Hextom 8th on 46,764. Neither is a platform you can build a shop on, so the ranking compares unlike things.
Are Volusion customers small businesses?
Almost entirely. Of the 1,309 matched companies that publish a headcount, 875 employ 10 people or fewer and 381 employ 11 to 50. Only four companies across the whole matched base employ more than 500 people. There is no large-account tier hiding underneath the distribution, and no estate effect inflating it either.
Where are companies using Volusion based?
The United States accounts for 1,262 of the 1,394 matched companies that publish a country, or 90.5%. Canada contributes 49 and the United Kingdom 41, with Australia on 12 and Germany on five. This is a domestic American platform by customer base today, whatever its original international ambitions were.
Do Volusion merchants use it for their whole website?
Usually, but not always, and the exception is concentrated at the top. Across the base 4.63% of detections sit on a distinct store subdomain, but among the largest accounts that rises to roughly 43%. Those organisations run their main site elsewhere and use Volusion only for the shop.
What technologies do Volusion stores run alongside it?
Google Analytics leads on 90.28% of domains, which is a genuine merchant choice and higher than the 73% to 86% peer platforms record. PayPal appears on 45.12% of domains and Stripe on 22.18%. Cloudflare Browser Insights shows on 98.07%, but that figure reflects Volusion's own hosting layer rather than any merchant decision.
How old are companies using Volusion?
The base is dated to the platform's own growth era. Of the 438 matched companies that publish a founding year, the 2000s are the largest decade at 32.19% and the 1990s add a further 18.95%. Only three companies, 0.68% of that sample, were founded in the 2020s at all.
How many companies have left Volusion?
We have watched 101 domains drop Volusion since March 2026, which is observed churn rather than a lifetime figure. Of those, 90 remain live websites carrying three or more detected technologies, so they replatformed rather than closed. Only 34 have so far appeared on another platform we track.
How accurate is this Volusion data?
The detection is close to deterministic, resolving identically on 99.9% of repeat scans, because the platform emits its own asset paths in server-rendered HTML. We also re-fetched a random 60 domain sample live and confirmed 53. Company details come from matching 1,409 of the 2,188 domains to company records.
