Companies Using Skimlinks

Our October 2026 crawl finds Skimlinks on 5,786 live domains. Almost all of them are publishers: sites that run Skimlinks' script so the product links in their articles earn a commission. A few are merchants carrying Skimlinks' separate merchant tag, such as On and Johnston & Murphy. Below is the list of companies that use Skimlinks, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes Vogue, GQ, Variety, Rolling Stone, Car and Driver and the Bangkok Post.

One owner stands out. 1,185 domains, 20.5% of the 5,790 we kept after removing for-sale and gambling pages, are forums run by VerticalScope, all under one Skimlinks publisher ID. Skimlinks ranks 13th of 96 technologies in Affiliate & Referral with 1.83%, nearly three times its closest like-for-like rival, Sovrn//Commerce, once sites that only get Sovrn's script through Shareaholic or Disqus are left out. It has been part of Taboola since 2021.

Skimlinks Usage Statistics

Skimlinks reads 4,529 domains in June 2026, 5,683 in July, 5,687 in August, 5,735 in September and 5,786 in October. The June to July step is mostly our side: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones added, and our detection signals widen over time. From July the line is close to flat, up 103 domains in three months. Since we began tracking Skimlinks in March 2026, 902 domains have dropped it, and about 160 of them still run it on another hostname.

Skimlinks Customers by Company Size & Age

What size companies use Skimlinks? Mostly small ones. 71.12% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 19.38% have 11 to 50. That's how blogs, niche review sites and forum communities look on LinkedIn. Only 11 companies list more than 1,000 staff, yet the publishers people know sit in the bands above 50, among them Variety, Billboard, Car and Driver and Food Network.

Company Size Distribution

Company Age (Founded Decade)

The largest group of matched companies was founded in the 2010s (50.89%), then the 2020s (20.9%) and the 2000s (17.16%), so 71.79% date from 2010 or later. The old names are magazines and one shoemaker. Vogue (1892), Billboard (1894), Variety (1905) and WWD (1910) all load Skimlinks' publisher script, and Johnston & Murphy (1850) carries its merchant tag.

What Industries Use Skimlinks the Most?

Book and Periodical Publishing leads at 7.94%, then Online Audio and Video Media (6.03%), Technology, Information and Internet (5.85%) and Retail Apparel and Fashion (5.45%), based on our enriched company data. Add Media Production (5.04%) and Internet Publishing (2.43%) and the publishing and media group reaches 21.44%. Fashion and retail rank high for a publisher tool because brands such as Rose Inc and Abbott run the publisher script on their own content.

Magazine publishers using Skimlinks organise it differently. Penske Media runs Variety, Rolling Stone, Billboard and WWD under one publisher ID, while Condé Nast gives Vogue, GQ and Vanity Fair an ID each. Forum operators on Skimlinks are mostly one company, VerticalScope, with 1,185 forums. Beauty and fashion brands using Skimlinks include Rose Inc and Abbott on the publisher side and LELO on the merchant side.

Skimlinks Alternatives & Competitors

Only one row in this table is counted the same way as Skimlinks. Sovrn//Commerce (2,074 domains, 0.66%) also converts publishers' links, and 171 domains run both today, 149 of them with their own Sovrn//Commerce setup. Its raw count was 5,838 until we removed 3,761 sites that load it through Shareaholic's share buttons or Disqus comments, under those platforms' accounts. AWIN (24,883), impact.com (10,467) and ShareASale (6,646) are counted from brands' tracking tags, the advertiser side, so their bigger numbers count a different population.

Expert Analysis: Skimlinks Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Sophie Clarke
Sophie ClarkeProduct Marketing Manager, TechnologyChecker

I pulled Skimlinks out of our October 2026 crawl to see which publishers let a script turn their product mentions into affiliate links. A domain counts when its pages load a script from skimresources.com or expose one of Skimlinks' JavaScript objects. That's the publisher side of the deal. The merchants who pay the commissions are mostly invisible here, because they don't run the script. The total is 5,786 live domains, 1,943 of them matched to a company, 13th of 96 in Affiliate & Referral. Skimlinks' company page calls it a Taboola company, acquired in 2021. Joining is free for publishers, and Skimlinks keeps 25% of each commission, per its support article on charges.

One account is a fifth of the count

The script's file name carries the publisher's ID, so I counted accounts as well as domains. On the 4,667 clean domains where an ID was visible, there are 2,580 different publisher IDs. One of them covers 1,185 domains: enthusiast forums such as gsxr.com, rs25.com and 3si.org, whose pages name VerticalScope Inc. of Toronto. That's 20.5% of the 5,790 domains we kept after removing for-sale and gambling pages, and a quarter of the domains with a visible ID. They are VerticalScope's own forums, so this is one customer with a lot of sites, not a platform putting its key on strangers' pages. The next account down has 92 domains, also forums.

The big media groups organise it differently. Penske Media runs Variety, Rolling Stone, Billboard, WWD, Robb Report and Vibe under one ID. Hearst puts Elle, Esquire and Car and Driver under another. Condé Nast splits its titles, and Vogue, GQ and Vanity Fair each have their own.

Sales signal: collapse a Skimlinks list by owner before you size it. The 4,667 domains with a visible ID belong to 2,580 accounts, and one account holds a quarter of them.

103 domains in three months

The chart reads 4,529 in June, 5,683 in July, 5,687 in August, 5,735 in September and 5,786 in October. The June to July jump is mostly our side: the domains we crawl turn over every month, with dead sites leaving and new ones arriving, and our detection signals widen. After July, Skimlinks added 103 domains in three months. Since March 2026, 902 domains have dropped it, and about 160 of those still run it on another hostname, so some drops are a publisher retiring a subdomain rather than leaving.

"Skimlinks' footprint is a few thousand publishers plus one forum company. Before you treat the count as a market, work out how much of it is VerticalScope." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: treat this as a steady pool of about 5,800 publisher domains. Nothing in our data supports pitching it as a growing segment.

Who the publishers are

Among matched companies with a known size, 71.12% have 1 to 10 employees and 19.38% have 11 to 50. That's how blogs, niche review sites and forums look on LinkedIn. Only 11 companies list more than 1,000 staff. The recognisable titles sit in the middle bands instead: Variety, Billboard, Car and Driver and Rolling Stone are each listed at 51 to 200, which is the size of a magazine's own team inside a bigger group. Age splits the same way. 50.89% were founded in the 2010s and 20.9% in the 2020s, while Vogue (1892), Billboard (1894) and Variety (1905) are among the 30 matched companies founded before 1960.

A few rows are merchants, not publishers. On's design site, Johnston & Murphy and LELO load a different Skimlinks file, a merchant tag named after their own domain and served from assistjs.skimresources.com. We logged it on 12 domains, against about 4,800 loading the publisher script, so the merchant side barely registers in this count.

Sales signal: for most of this list, the person who added Skimlinks also writes the content and sells the ads. Pitch revenue per page and time saved. At the magazine groups, look for a commerce or affiliate editor, and expect one buyer to cover several titles.

English-language media, mostly American

We matched 1,023 Skimlinks companies to the United States, 305 to the United Kingdom, 116 to Australia and 107 to Canada. Those four are 91.1% of the companies in the top 15 countries. Continental Europe barely registers: France 18, the Netherlands 16, Germany 15. Book and Periodical Publishing leads the industries at 7.94%, and with Online Audio and Video Media (6.03%), Media Production (5.04%) and Internet Publishing (2.43%) the media group reaches 21.44%. Retail Apparel and Fashion (5.45%) is higher than you'd expect for a publisher tool. Brands such as Rose Inc and Abbott run the publisher script on their own sites, which puts them in this count.

Sales signal: a Skimlinks list is an English-language publisher list. For UK and Australian commerce-content teams it's ready to use; for continental Europe it has too few rows to be worth a campaign.

Publishers that run two link networks

We don't publish switching rows for Skimlinks, because none pass our tests. The overlaps are real, though. 171 domains run Skimlinks and Sovrn//Commerce today, out of 194 ever seen with both, so 88% kept both. 231 Skimlinks domains also carry AWIN's advertiser tag, 112 ShareASale's and 63 impact.com's. Those sites advertise on one network and publish on Skimlinks at the same time.

"Publishers don't swap Skimlinks for Sovrn. Of the domains we've seen with both, nearly nine in ten still run both." - Sophie Clarke, Product Marketing Manager at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: a publisher running both link networks is shopping for yield. Pitch comparison, link routing and reporting to them.

An ad stack with a link script on top

Across the 5,791 live Skimlinks domains we kept, DoubleClick Floodlight runs on 46.37%, AdSense on 43.19%, Google Publisher Tag on 39.84% and Prebid on 37.02%. Taboola, Skimlinks' owner, is on 37.45%, and 1,153 of those Taboola domains are VerticalScope forums, 97% of the forum group. comScore's audience tag is on 31.22% and Blockthrough, an ad-recovery tool, on 24.0%. WordPress is the main builder at only 38.27%; 1,087 of the forum domains run on XenForo instead.

Sales signal: these publishers already earn from display ads and Taboola. Skimlinks is a second or third revenue line, so commerce-content tools, review templates and link management fit. A pitch for yet another ad network will land on a full stack.

Key takeaways

  1. 5,786 live domains, 13th of 96 in Affiliate & Referral with 1.83%, nearly three times Sovrn//Commerce's 2,074.
  2. The rule sees the publisher side; about a dozen merchants carry Skimlinks' merchant tag.

Sales applications

Outreach template: "Your site turns its product links into affiliate links with Skimlinks. More than a third of the publishers we see doing that also run Taboola and Prebid, so links are one revenue line among several. We help commerce editors earn more per article without adding another ad unit."

Targeting: filter Skimlinks domains on TechnologyChecker.io to the United Kingdom and Australia, set the VerticalScope forums aside, and sort by company size. What's left is the independent and mid-size publishers.

Competitive angle: the 171 domains that run Skimlinks and Sovrn//Commerce together are already comparing networks. They're the natural audience for link routing or yield reporting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who uses Skimlinks?

Mostly publishers: magazines, blogs, review sites and forums that want their product links to earn commission. Our October 2026 crawl finds Skimlinks on 5,786 live domains. Vogue, GQ, Variety, Rolling Stone and Car and Driver all load it. VerticalScope's enthusiast forums are 1,185 of the domains. A few merchants, such as On and LELO, carry Skimlinks' merchant tag instead.

How many customers does Skimlinks have?

We count domains, not accounts: 5,786 live domains in October 2026, 1,943 of them matched to a company. Accounts are fewer. On the 4,667 domains where the publisher ID is visible, we found 2,580 different IDs, and one, VerticalScope's, covers 1,185 forums. Since March 2026, 902 domains have dropped Skimlinks, and about 160 of them still run it on another hostname.

What is Skimlinks's market share?

1.83% of Affiliate & Referral, 13th of the 96 technologies we track there, on 5,786 domains. That share mixes two sides of the market: AWIN, impact.com and ShareASale are counted from brands' tracking tags, while Skimlinks is counted on publishers' pages. Its like-for-like rival, Sovrn//Commerce, has 2,074 domains (0.66%) once sites loading it through Shareaholic or Disqus are removed.

What are the best alternatives to Skimlinks?

For a publisher, the closest alternative is Sovrn//Commerce, the former VigLink, which converts links the same way; 171 domains run both today. Publishers can also join networks such as AWIN, impact.com or ShareASale directly and keep the whole commission, at the cost of managing each programme. Skimlinks keeps 25% of commissions, per its support pages, so direct deals pay more where you have them.

Which countries use Skimlinks the most?

The United States, with 1,023 matched companies, then the United Kingdom (305), Australia (116) and Canada (107). Those four hold 91.1% of the companies in the top 15 countries. India follows with 33. Continental Europe is thin: France has 18, the Netherlands 16 and Germany 15. The counts cover the 1,943 Skimlinks domains we matched to a company, not all 5,786.

What size companies use Skimlinks?

Small ones, on the whole. 71.12% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 19.38% have 11 to 50, the profile of blogs, niche sites and forum communities. Only 11 list more than 1,000 staff. The magazines most people know sit in the middle bands: Variety, Billboard, Car and Driver and Rolling Stone are each listed at 51 to 200.

How old are companies that use Skimlinks?

Among matched companies with a known founding year, 50.89% were founded in the 2010s, 20.9% in the 2020s and 17.16% in the 2000s, so 71.79% date from 2010 or later. The oldest names are magazines: Vogue (1892), Billboard (1894), Variety (1905) and WWD (1910). Johnston & Murphy, founded in 1850, carries the merchant tag rather than the publisher script.

What is the ideal customer profile for Skimlinks?

The ideal Skimlinks customer is: Company Size: 1-10 employees, then 11-50, Location: United States, then UK, Australia, Canada, Founded: 2010-2019, Industry: Magazines, online media and fashion, Site type: Ad-funded publisher running AdSense or Prebid — based on our analysis of 1,943 enriched companies at TechnologyChecker.io.

How much does Skimlinks cost?

Nothing up front. Skimlinks says it's free for publishers to join and works on a revenue share: you keep 75% of the commission a merchant pays and Skimlinks keeps 25%, already deducted in your reports. It pays monthly once your balance passes $65, €55 or £50, normally around 90 days after a sale, while retailers review commissions. Checked 14 October 2026.

Who owns Skimlinks?

Taboola. Skimlinks' company page calls it a Taboola company, acquired in 2021, sharing Taboola's offices in London and New York. The link shows in our data: Taboola's widget runs on 37.45% of live Skimlinks domains. 1,153 of those are VerticalScope forums, which carry both, so the overlap is partly one customer rather than a bundle.

How does Skimlinks make money?

From commission on the sales it sends to merchants. When a reader clicks a product link on a publisher's page, Skimlinks' script turns it into an affiliate link, and if the reader buys, the merchant pays a commission. Skimlinks keeps 25% and passes 75% to the publisher, per its support pages. That script is what we detect on 5,786 domains.

What kind of sites get approved for Skimlinks?

We can't see Skimlinks' review, only who passed it. Approved sites in our crawl are content sites with product links: fashion and men's magazines such as Vogue and GQ, entertainment titles from Penske Media, food, golf and car magazines, and 1,185 VerticalScope forums. 71.12% of matched companies have 10 or fewer staff, so size isn't the bar; editorial content seems to be.

Is Skimlinks legit?

Large publishers run it under their own accounts, which is a fair test. In our October 2026 crawl, Penske Media's titles share one Skimlinks publisher ID, Hearst's Elle, Esquire and Car and Driver another, and Condé Nast's Vogue and GQ have their own. Skimlinks publishes its 75/25 split and payout thresholds. Payment is slow because retailers confirm sales first.

Skimlinks vs Sovrn//Commerce: which is bigger?

Skimlinks, by a wide margin. Our October 2026 crawl finds Skimlinks on 5,786 domains and Sovrn//Commerce's script on 5,838, but 3,761 of those get it through Shareaholic's share buttons or Disqus comments, under the platform's account. That leaves Sovrn//Commerce 2,074 domains, 0.66% of the category against Skimlinks' 1.83%. 171 domains run both today.

Do merchants use Skimlinks too?

A few, on a different file. Skimlinks' merchant tag loads from assistjs.skimresources.com and is named after the merchant's own domain. We saw it on On's design site, Johnston & Murphy and LELO, and on 12 domains in the pages we logged, against about 4,800 loading the publisher script. So nearly every domain on this page is a publisher.
