Companies Using Effective Apps Terms and Conditions Checkbox

Our October 2026 crawl finds Effective Apps' terms and conditions checkbox on 3,932 domains, all of them Shopify stores. The app is listed on the Shopify App Store as TN Term and Condition Checkbox, and Effective Apps calls it TnC. It puts an "I agree" box next to the checkout button, and the shopper can't continue until it's ticked. Below is the list of companies that use Effective Apps Terms and Conditions Checkbox, with size, country, industry and stack. It includes Big Boy's merchandise shop, Babymoov, EOTECH, Kill Cliff and Big Agnes's European store.

It ranks 8th of the 33 technologies we track in Cart & Checkout, with 5.12%. The buyers are tiny: 74.36% of the 1,091 companies we matched have 1 to 10 staff. A tag isn't always a working checkbox, though. When we requested the app's script for 86 tagged domains from our company candidates, 75 got the checkbox code back and 11 got an empty reply, so a share of these stores have the app installed but switched off.

Effective Apps Terms and Conditions Checkbox Usage Statistics

We began detecting the app on 4 August 2026, so the chart starts in August: 3,000 domains, then 3,884 in September and 3,932 in October. The August point covers less than a full month of our crawl. After that, the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with closed stores dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection widens over time, so the September step says little about new installs. 305 domains have dropped the app on at least one hostname since 4 August, and 36 of those still run it on another.

Expert Analysis: Effective Apps Terms and Conditions Checkbox Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

David Thomson
David ThomsonCTO, TechnologyChecker

I run the crawler behind these numbers. This app is easy to detect and harder to interpret. When a store installs TN Term and Condition Checkbox, Shopify adds a script from app.tncapp.com to its pages, with the store's Shopify address in the URL, and we count the domain when we see it. Our October 2026 crawl finds 3,932 domains, 1,091 matched to a company, 8th of 33 in Cart & Checkout. I loaded every company page in our list in mid-October: 49 of the 50 carried the script, and the 50th sat behind a bot wall.

Installed isn't the same as switched on

The script URL is a request to Effective Apps' server for that store's checkbox. So I requested it for the 86 domains in our candidate list that carried the tag. 75 got the checkbox code back and 11 got an empty reply, which means the app was installed but had nothing to show, most likely a lapsed plan or a disabled checkbox. That's 12.8% of the sample. Domains also overstate stores: where we could read the store address, 3,791 domains belonged to 2,853 stores. NOBS, a personal-care brand, has 34 of them and BODÉ STUDIOS, a perfume house, 19. Closed and broken stores are under 1% of the clean set.

Sales signal: before a campaign, check the store's script returns code. About one tagged store in eight isn't showing a checkbox, which is either a lapsed customer for Effective Apps or an open slot for a rival.

A short chart

We began detecting the app on 4 August 2026, so the chart has three points: 3,000 in August, 3,884 in September and 3,932 in October. The August point covers part of a month. The rest of the movement is mostly ours, too: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with closed stores dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection widens over time. Since 4 August, 305 domains have dropped the app on at least one hostname, and 36 of those still run it on another.

"Most of these buyers are ordinary small shops, but the list also holds sellers that need a yes first: defibrillators, spirits, military optics, diagnostic tests." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: three months of data can't show a trend. Treat it as a pool of about 3,900 domains and re-check it next quarter.

Who buys a checkbox

The base is tiny businesses. 94.42% of matched companies with a known size have 50 or fewer staff, and 73.64% of those with a known founding year started in 2010 or later. The industry chart is led by retail and apparel, but the list shows what's being sold. Avive and Procardio sell defibrillators, Vave Health handheld ultrasound and Cryomed aesthetics devices. EOTECH sells optics to military and police users, the Cotswolds Distillery and Burial Beer sell alcohol, and Oxford BioDynamics sells a diagnostic test. These sellers want a recorded agreement before money changes hands, and the app's Advanced plan logs the time the box was ticked.

Sales signal: the strongest leads for legal, compliance or age-verification services are in this list's medical and alcohol stores, not in its fashion majority.

A Danish surprise

The United States has 533 matched companies, the United Kingdom 88, Australia 68 and Canada 62. Denmark is fifth with 39, one ahead of Germany, while France has 9. Nielsens, the Danish fashion chain founded in 1961, is in the list. Our data can't say why Danish stores pick this app, only that they do: Denmark has as many as Germany, a far larger market.

Sales signal: a Danish Shopify agency or app reseller should look at these 39 companies first. It's a small, concentrated group.

Neighbours, not rivals

We publish no switching table, because nothing passed our tests. 115 domains run Code Black Belt and this app today, out of 136 ever seen with both. CartBot has 30 out of 36 and Product Customizer 18 out of 21. Those are add-ons that sit together, and none of them is a checkbox. Its direct rivals are other checkbox apps, such as RoarTheme's RT: Terms and Conditions Box and Relentless Apps' R Terms and Condition Checkbox.

"Every app in this page's competitor table does a different job. The overlap you see is stores stacking small apps, not choosing between them." - David Thomson, CTO at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: pitch a checkbox rival on consent logging, which Effective Apps keeps for its Advanced and Pro plans, and on express-checkout coverage.

The stack around it

Across the 3,904 clean live domains, Klaviyo runs on 31.92%, against 49.24% on CartBot's. Judge.me is on 30.38%. Cookie consent tools are scarce: Pandectes is on 5.25%, Cookiebot on 1.05%, and the six consent tools in our table add up to 9.68% at most, even though each of these stores installed an app to ask for agreement at checkout. Google Analytics is on 59.32%.

Sales signal: a store that already pays to collect agreement at checkout is a fair prospect for a consent banner or a policy generator.

Price and reviews

The App Store listing (checked 14 October 2026) lists Basic at $6.99 a month, Advanced at $10.99 and Pro at $12.99, each with a 7-day trial, and free use only for development stores. It's rated 4.9 from 565 reviews, carries the Built for Shopify badge and has been listed since 2 December 2019. Effective Apps has 18 apps on the App Store, so this is one product in a wider catalogue.

Sales signal: since there's no free plan, almost every store with a working checkbox is a paying customer, unlike CartBot, Product Customizer and CareCart's Cartly, which all have free plans.

Key takeaways

1. 3,932 domains, 8th of 33 in Cart & Checkout, about 1.3 domains per store.

2. About one tagged store in eight got no checkbox code in our check.

3. Tiny buyers, with medical-device and alcohol sellers standing out in the list.

4. Denmark is the fifth country, ahead of Germany.

5. The six most common consent tools on these stores together reach at most 9.68% of them.

How to use this list

Filter by country and industry, then dedupe by store. An opening line that fits: "You already ask customers to accept your terms at checkout. Here's how to show you've done the same for cookies."
