Expert Analysis: BookThatApp Growth Trends & Key Signals for Sales Teams in 2026

Elif Arslan
Elif ArslanCMO & Co-founder, TechnologyChecker

I pulled BookThatApp out of our October 2026 crawl to answer a marketer's question: if I bought this list, how many of these stores sell bookings? A domain counts here when its pages load BookThatApp's scripts from bookthatapp.com, which Shopify injects after the page has finished loading. That gives 4,379 live domains, 1,704 of them matched to a company, 7th of 100 in Appointment Scheduling. Shopify runs on 99.98% of them, so every row is a Shopify merchant.

Installed isn't the same as taking bookings

I drew 40 domains at random. One was a Shopify store that's no longer available. The other 39 all loaded BookThatApp's script, which only happens while the app is installed. Then I asked BookThatApp's own storefront endpoint whether each shop had anything to book. 26 did. 12 answered "No configured products" and one "Shop is paused". In a browser, all 21 live stores I loaded fetched BookThatApp's code after the load event, and the booking calendar rendered on a product page at 11 of them: fly-rod and gumball-machine rentals, tasting flights, mosaic workshops, a Kyoto tour. The dormant stores loaded the scripts and showed nothing. Six of the 39 domains also redirected to another of the store's domains, so read the count as domains, not companies.

Sales signal: about two in three rows are live booking businesses. Before outreach, open a product page; a date picker means the merchant is selling time, and an empty page means the app is waiting for setup.

Flat since July

The chart reads 3,475 in June, 4,220 in July, 4,321 in August, 4,327 in September and 4,379 in October. The June step is ours. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month as dead sites drop out and new ones come in, and our detection signals widen over time, so the early months aren't a like-for-like series. Since July the line has moved by 159 domains. Underneath, 741 domains dropped BookThatApp since we started tracking it on 16 March 2026; 99 of them still run it on another hostname, and of the 642 that lost it everywhere, 519 still run Shopify.

"Most stores that drop BookThatApp are still open. The app comes off and the shop keeps trading, which is a different story from store closures." - Elif Arslan, CMO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: a stable pool of about 4,300 domains. The leavers are worth a look for anyone selling a booking app, because they're live Shopify stores that removed one.

Who the customers are

73.67% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 20.9% have 11 to 50. Only 14 have more than 200 staff, and the big names among them run BookThatApp on a single storefront: shop.panasonic.com, Weber's anz.weber.com, shop.royalarmouries.org. Half were founded in the 2010s (50.12%) and 20.57% in the 2020s, an older base than Appointo's, whose 2020s share is 31.29%. That fits the apps' ages: BookThatApp listed on the Shopify App Store in May 2012, Appointo in October 2020. The pre-2000 tail (15.46%) includes places with something to visit, like Everards (1849), Adnams (1872) and the Royal Armouries.

Sales signal: the buyer is usually the owner, or at a larger brand the person who runs one online store. Pitch tools that sit beside a booking, such as waivers, deposits, reminders or staff rotas, rather than enterprise platforms.

What they book, and where

Retail leads at 17.21%, then apparel (6.1%) and food and beverage services (4.86%). The giveaway is further down: wellness and fitness (3.16%), events services (2.93%), travel arrangements (2.31%) and hospitality (2.16%) add up to 10.56%, and beverage manufacturing (2.47%) brings in brewers and winemakers like Tasca d'Almerita. By country, the United States has 657 matched companies, the United Kingdom 193, Canada 184 and Australia 162. Canada and Australia together reach 346, more than half the US figure, and New Zealand adds 44, about three times Appointo's 15.

Sales signal: for tour, rental and class operators, the Canadian, Australian and New Zealand rows are a better-than-expected list. Localised payments, weather cancellations and seasonal staffing are the angles.

Rivals and leavers

The category table pits BookThatApp against Calendly, Bookly, FareHarbor and Acuity Scheduling, but none of them is a Shopify app. On BookThatApp's own domains they're rare: 29 run Calendly today (36 ever ran both) and 16 run FareHarbor (21 ever). The real rival is Appointo, 165 domains behind. 81 domains run both apps today. Since March, 11 domains that dropped BookThatApp now run Appointo, and 10 went the other way. Churn runs both ways at the same small size.

"BookThatApp and Appointo are almost the same size, and the stores moving between them cancel out. Neither one is winning the other's merchants." - Elif Arslan, CMO & Co-founder at TechnologyChecker.io

Sales signal: the 81 stores running both apps are the warmest list for either vendor, since they're paying, or at least installing, twice. For BookThatApp's team, the 519 leavers still on Shopify are a win-back list.

The stack around it

Across the 4,309 live domains in our clean set, Apple Pay (74.36%), Shop Pay (72.96%) and PayPal (58.6%) are the checkout defaults, and Google Analytics runs on 60.76%. Email is split almost evenly between Klaviyo (19.03%) and Mailchimp (17.66%); on Appointo's stores Klaviyo leads Mailchimp by 19.91% to 11.94%. Instafeed (18.87%), Judge.me (13.67%) and Klaviyo Reviews (14.64%) show merchants who care about social proof. Seal Subscriptions sits on only 2.55%, so recurring bookings are uncommon.

Sales signal: memberships and class passes look like open ground. Only 2.55% of these stores run a subscription app, though many sell sessions that people book more than once.

What it costs, and what merchants say

BookThatApp's Shopify App Store listing, checked in October 2026, shows a Free plan with 10 bookings, Lite at $25 a month for 50 monthly bookings, Premium at $49.95 for 350 and Business at $110 for 1,000, with 17% off for annual billing. It rates 4.7 from 416 reviews: 88% five-star and 4% one-star. Appointo, by its listing, offers unlimited bookings from its free plan up. That matters for the 13 dormant installs in our sample: a store that installs BookThatApp and never configures a product still shows up in a crawl, whatever plan it's on.

Sales signal: stores on capped plans near their monthly limit are upgrade candidates for BookThatApp and switch candidates for everyone else.

Key takeaways

1. 4,379 live domains, 7th of 100, and the larger of the two Shopify booking apps we track.

2. About two in three installs had bookable products set up in our random sample; the rest are dormant or paused.

3. A micro-business base (73.67% at 1 to 10 staff) that's older than Appointo's.

4. Strong in Canada, Australia and New Zealand for its size, with events, travel and hospitality in its top ten industries.

What is the best booking app for Shopify?

It depends on what you sell, and our data measures reach, not quality. Of the two Shopify booking apps in our Appointment Scheduling table, BookThatApp is on more domains (4,379) than Appointo (4,214). On the Shopify App Store in October 2026, BookThatApp rated 4.7 from 416 reviews and Appointo 4.9 from 931. BookThatApp's plans cap bookings; Appointo's listing shows unlimited bookings from its free plan up.

Does Shopify allow appointment booking?

Not on its own, but booking apps add it. BookThatApp makes a Shopify product bookable for a date or time slot, and the customer pays at Shopify's normal checkout. In our random sample of 39 live BookThatApp stores, 26 had bookable products set up, from fly-rod, prop and gumball-machine rentals to mosaic workshops, tasting flights and dive trips.

How much does BookThatApp cost?

BookThatApp's Shopify App Store listing shows four plans: Free with 10 bookings, Lite at $25 a month for 50 monthly bookings, Premium at $49.95 for 350, and Business at $110 for 1,000 monthly bookings with API access. Paying annually saves 17%. Charges are in US dollars and billed every 30 days through Shopify. Checked October 2026.

Is BookThatApp free?

There is a free plan, but it's small: 10 bookings, with email notifications, blocked dates and customer cancel or reschedule, per the App Store listing in October 2026. Paid plans start at $25 a month for 50 monthly bookings. Appointo's free plan lists unlimited bookings, so a store that only needs a basic calendar has a cheaper route.

Is there a better option than Calendly?

For a Shopify store selling bookings, the two do different jobs. Calendly shares a meeting link, while BookThatApp sells a dated product through Shopify checkout, so payment comes with the booking. Our crawl shows little overlap: only 29 of BookThatApp's 4,379 domains run Calendly today, and the handful that moved between them don't add up to switching.
