Companies Using Autoptimize

I run the crawler behind these numbers, and Autoptimize is one of the easier WordPress plugins to see. It writes its combined CSS and JavaScript into its own cache folder, /wp-content/cache/autoptimize/, and its pages link those files by name. A domain counts here when a page links a stylesheet from that folder or from the plugin's own folder, or loads a script carrying Autoptimize's version marker. Our October 2026 crawl finds 236,271 live domains doing that, 148,657 of them matched to a company, 2nd of 45 in Performance Optimization.

We also loaded all 90 candidate company pages in mid-October 2026. 72 served Autoptimize's files: 65 linked combined files from the cache folder (55 stylesheets, 45 scripts) and 27 loaded its lazy-load script. Of the other 18, 14 were behind bot walls, timed out or returned an empty page, and 4 loaded without it. The largest single cluster in the count is one publisher's 516 alias domains, all showing the same home page, 0.22% of the clean set.

What the count can't see

The rule sees files, so it only counts the settings that write one. Autoptimize can also minify HTML, remove WordPress's emoji script, combine or drop Google Fonts and add preconnect hints, and a site using only those options leaves no Autoptimize path in its pages. Neither does a site that inlines all its CSS, an option the plugin's own FAQ advises against, or one that has moved WordPress's content folder away from /wp-content/. WordPress.org lists 800,000+ active installations; it counts installations and we count live domains serving the files, so the two will never match.

Sales signal: every domain on this list has Autoptimize switched on and doing visible work. Someone there chose to tune front-end speed with a free plugin, and may be ready to pay for the next step.

The chart is mostly coverage

The chart reads 201,549 in June, 225,438 in July, 227,032 in August, 234,098 in September and 236,271 in October. Most of the June to July step is ours: the set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and newly found ones added, and our detection widens over time. The same two effects run through the later months, so I wouldn't read them as adoption either.

Since we began tracking Autoptimize on 16 March 2026, 33,242 domains have dropped it. A few days after that figure was taken, about one in eleven of those domains still ran Autoptimize on another hostname, so roughly nine in ten left it everywhere.

Sales signal: treat Autoptimize as a large, settled base of about 236,000 live domains with steady churn. Nothing here supports pitching it internally as a fast-growing segment.

Who runs it

64.48% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 23.73% have 11 to 50. The base isn't young: 39.92% were founded in the 2010s, 14.31% in the 2020s and 26.29% before 2000. The 1,129 companies with more than 1,000 staff mostly run Autoptimize on one property. Arm uses it on its newsroom, Xero and PerkinElmer on their blogs, the University of Georgia on its student financial aid site. Kroger runs it on its corporate site, and TGI Fridays and Ruby Tuesday on their main sites.

Hosting shows who builds these sites. Of the 70 company pages that served Autoptimize to a plain request, 25 sent WP Engine's server header, against 4.57% WP Engine across all live Autoptimize domains. WP Engine caches pages on its own servers, as its support pages say, and these sites still add Autoptimize for their files.

Sales signal: at large accounts the buyer is the team that owns one WordPress property, such as comms, recruiting or a brand blog, often with an agency behind it. Start there, not with central IT.

Germany, two for every three

The United States has 32,937 matched companies and Germany 21,821, about two German companies for every three American ones. The United Kingdom (9,906), Spain (9,107), France (7,707) and the Netherlands (6,056) follow. WP Fastest Cache tilts further, with Germany ahead of the US, while Perfmatters, a paid plugin priced in dollars, has about one German company for every ten American ones. Industry is flat: Construction leads at 4.86%, then Advertising Services (3.81%) and Business Consulting and Services (3.65%), and the top ten add up to 29.82%.

Sales signal: German, Spanish and French WordPress sites are a large share of this market. Localised documentation and EU-hosted services will find an audience here that a US-only pitch misses.

Used alongside, not swapped

No pair passes our switching tests, and the overlaps show why. 3,550 domains run Autoptimize and WP Fastest Cache today, out of 5,168 ever seen with both: one combines the files and the other caches the page. 446 run it with ShortPixel, whose CDN powers Autoptimize Pro's image optimisation according to the Pro page, and 256 with Perfmatters. In each pair, 64% or more of the domains ever seen with both still run both.

Sales signal: a page-cache or hosting product doesn't need to displace Autoptimize. Sell next to it, and pitch the speed problem it leaves untouched: whole-page caching and server response time.

The stack around it

These percentages are of the 235,388 clean live Autoptimize domains. WordPress is on 100.0%, Elementor on 29.59%, Divi on 6.98% and wpBakery on 5.12%. Cloudflare fronts 24.78%. Google Analytics runs on 59.18% and Google's Site Kit plugin on 8.26%. CookieYes (8.01%), Complianz (6.74%) and Borlabs Cookie (2.63%) are the most common consent tools. GoDaddy shows on 10.69%, but that rule reads DNS; among real hosts WP Engine (4.57%), IONOS (4.06%) and Hostinger (3.38%) lead.

Sales signal: an Elementor site running Autoptimize has already tried to fix its speed with free tools. That's the natural prospect for a paid caching plugin or a faster host, and three in ten Autoptimize domains fit it.

What it costs

The plugin is free on WordPress.org, published by Optimizing Matters with Frank Goossens among its contributors. Autoptimize Pro is a subscription that adds image optimisation and a CDN powered by ShortPixel, page caching, automatic critical CSS rules and booster options such as delaying JavaScript. The Pro page (checked October 2026) lists 12.99 a month or 89 a year for a single site, and 39.99 a month or 379 a year for five sites, priced in euros or dollars.

Sales signal: Pro takes Autoptimize into page caching and image CDNs, the ground WP Rocket already holds; its profile counts 733,891 domains in Caching in August 2026. Free users who outgrow combining files are the market both want.
