Our live crawl finds CodeIgniter on 63,867 domains, resolving to 40,176 identifiable organisations. Named users include Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Habib Bank Limited, the Supreme Court of India, the University of Nottingham and Spirit AeroSystems. IT Services and IT Consulting is the largest industry at 4.33%, ahead of Real Estate and Retail.

CodeIgniter holds 3.44% of the Web Frameworks category and ranks 6th. Microsoft ASP.NET dominates the category at 46.19%, so a mid-single-digit share still represents the second-largest PHP framework we detect after Laravel.

Laravel is the usual PHP alternative and the largest at 90,325 domains. Among domains that actually left CodeIgniter, though, the over-represented destinations are Nuxt.js, Express.js, Ruby on Rails and Django, which suggests teams leaving CodeIgniter more often leave PHP altogether than move to another PHP framework.

India leads with 8,907 matched companies, 23.05% of CodeIgniter's geographic base and almost twice the United States at 5,301. Brazil (3,363), the United Kingdom (2,239), Indonesia (2,040) and Turkey (1,897) follow.

Small companies dominate. 50.03% of matched organisations employ 1 to 10 people and 25.43% employ 11 to 50, so roughly three quarters are under 50 staff. Only 0.53% exceed 10,000 employees, though that group includes national banks and government bodies.

Companies founded in the 2010s are the largest group at 38.64%, followed by the 2000s at 19.83% and the 2020s at 14.59%. The distribution skews older than newer JavaScript frameworks, matching CodeIgniter's own 2006 release.

Far less than expected. Laravel runs on 0.48% of active CodeIgniter domains and 0.75% of domains that dropped CodeIgniter, a ratio near 1.5 to 1. Nuxt.js by comparison is 4.2 times over-represented among leavers. On our data, teams leaving CodeIgniter more often move to a JavaScript or Python stack than to Laravel.

CodeIgniter runs on modest shared hosting with no build step and no dependency manager requirement, which matches how much of the web is deployed in those markets. The supporting signals agree: LiteSpeed appears on 17.11% of CodeIgniter domains and WhatsApp Business Chat on 12.03%, both far above the rate we see under newer frameworks.

We match CodeIgniter on its session and CSRF cookies and on the hidden CSRF form input it renders. Those are server-set signals, so a match means the framework is running, not merely referenced.
