Companies Using Yahoo! JAPAN Tag

I went into Yahoo! JAPAN Tag expecting a small regional tag manager with a loyal user base. What our October 2026 crawl shows is a tag that outlived its product. A domain counts when a page loads a script from s.yjtag.jp, the address of Yahoo! JAPAN Tag Manager's universal tag. That gives 3,038 live domains, 667 matched to a company, 8th of 17 in Tag Management. LINE Yahoo closed the service on 30 June 2024, per its closure notice.

What the tag does in October 2026

I fetched s.yjtag.jp/tag.js directly. The server answers, but with an empty file: zero bytes, last modified 28 June 2024. The site ID in each snippet sits after a # in the address, and that part never reaches the server, so every site gets the same nothing. In a browser sample of 40 random domains, 37 still requested it; two timed out and one didn't load it. Of those 37, 19 also loaded ytag.js, a newer Yahoo ads script served from s.yimg.jp that still sends measurement calls to Yahoo. The other 18 didn't load it on the page we opened.

Sales signal: a dead snippet is a strong marker of a site whose tags haven't been audited since the service closed more than two years ago. Tag-audit and consent vendors working in Japan can use this list as a ready-made lead filter.

Who owns the domains

In raw HTML from 400 random domains, the snippet appeared on 335 pages with 307 different site IDs, so these are mostly separate accounts, not one agency's. Two owners stand out. Token Corporation, which runs the Homemate rental-shop chain, accounts for 113 domains (3.7% of the clean set): shop domains that redirect to homemate.co.jp, its Token branch sites and its Homemate Research directories. The shop and branch pages we sampled share one site ID. Audi's Japanese dealer sites add 74 domains that requested the tag in our early-October crawl. Neither is more than 5% of the count. Token's sampled pages share one account, and Audi's dealer sites look like one rollout across a dealer network, though their pages blocked our browser.

Sales signal: dedupe Token Corporation's and Audi's domains before sizing the list, then treat the remaining sites as independent advertisers.

Who still carries it

The companies behind it are mid-sized more often than tiny. 26.82% of matched companies with a known size have 51 to 200 staff and 26.04% have 11 to 50; just 20.12% have 10 or fewer, against 62.36% on Google Tag Manager's profile. The age data is stranger still: only 2 of 273 companies with a founding year date from the 2020s. That's what you'd expect when sign-ups stopped in 2023. The named companies are established Japanese brands, often on one property: LIXIL's culture site, Lion's homepage, Bridgestone's tyre site, Suntory Beverage & Food's online store, MonotaRO's recruiting site. Audi Japan loads it on a page announcing that its catalogue-request form has closed, a fair picture of how long these snippets survive.

Sales signal: the buyer is the marketing or web team of an established mid-sized Japanese company that set up Yahoo! JAPAN's tag manager before 2024. They run several ad networks' tags and carry old technical debt.

Japan, almost entirely

615 of 642 matched companies with a known country are Japanese. The few foreign ones are mostly Japanese-language sites of foreign firms, such as Qlik's ja-jp pages and IG's Japanese trading site. By industry, LinkedIn puts Facilities Services first (8.45%), but that label covers Gurunavi, Kyodo PR and Chunichi Shimbun on our list, none of them facilities firms. Wholesale (8.21%), Retail (7.49%), IT services (5.07%) and Real Estate (4.83%) are the honest top. Staffing is visible too, with Work Port, Adecco's freelance site and MEITEC NEXT. So are marketing firms: Geniee, Principle and Glad Cube still carry the snippet on their own sites.

Sales signal: Japanese ad agencies and analytics consultancies can use the list to find advertisers whose measurement setup predates 2024. Wholesale and retail are the largest verticals we can label with confidence.

Not a migration story

Google Tag Manager runs on 2,953 of the 3,052 domains in our clean set, and Adobe Experience Platform Launch on 33. That isn't switching. LINE Yahoo's notice says there's no alternative feature and tells advertisers to use another company's tag manager or each service's own tags, and Google Tag Manager templates for Yahoo's conversion tags are published on GitHub. Most of these sites made that move and left the old line in the page template. Since we began tracking on 4 August 2026, 164 domains have dropped the tag, and a re-check found 36 of the 140 we could see still running it on another hostname.

Sales signal: rival tag managers such as Commanders Act TagCommander or server-side hosts such as Stape won't win these accounts by replacing Yahoo, because Google already did. The opening is the audit: a site that left a dead snippet for two years probably has other stale tags in its Google container too.

The stack around it

Across the 3,052 clean domains, Google Analytics is on 97.02%, DoubleClick Floodlight on 64.58%, Yahoo Advertising on 37.98%, Twitter Ads on 26.38% and Microsoft Advertising on 22.18%. These sites still run tags from several ad networks. WordPress is on 35.06%, and stores split between Shopify (1.83%), MakeShop (1.74%), ecbeing (1.61%) and EC-CUBE (1.51%). Consent tools are rare: Funding Choices on 1.57% and OneTrust on 1.34%.

Sales signal: with several ad networks' tags and almost no consent manager, these sites are a natural fit for consent and tag-governance tools.
