Companies Using Summernote

I pulled Summernote out of our October 2026 crawl expecting a short page about a small open-source editor. What I found was 3,730 domains whose pages load Summernote's files, many of them customer, student and supplier portals built on jQuery, with 2,091 of them matched to a company. A domain counts when a page we crawl loads a file named summernote.js or summernote.min.js, or a versioned path such as the jsDelivr package. Summernote is free under the MIT licence and has no vendor, so this is a count of sites, not of licences sold.

What the count measures

We look at each site's front page. On 30 random live domains, 22 pages loaded, 21 of them pulled in Summernote, and none showed an editor. Ten of those 22 pages had a password field. When we fetched the front page of every live domain, 2,929 named a Summernote file in their HTML, and 1,027 of those had a password field too. The script loads with the page template; the editor itself appears later, on the form that needs it. The largest single carrier we found is a WordPress support-ticket plugin, on 105 domains. No theme, plugin or platform comes near a majority, so the count is spread across thousands of separate builds.

Sales signal: a Summernote detection marks a site with a logged-in area (a customer portal, a student system, a supplier login) rather than a brochure site. Used as a filter, it finds organisations that run custom web software.

Growth is mostly coverage

The chart reads 2,362 domains in June 2026, 2,894 in July, 3,469 in August, 3,708 in September and 3,730 in October. I wouldn't read that as adoption. The set of domains we crawl turns over every month, with dead sites dropping out and new ones coming in, and our detection signals widened over the same months. September to October added only 22 domains. Since we began tracking Summernote in March 2026, 305 domains have dropped it on at least one hostname, and 31 of them still run it on another.

Sales signal: treat Summernote as an installed base of about 3,700 sites, not a growth segment. The trigger worth watching is a portal rebuild, because that's when the editor gets replaced.

Small organisations, public bodies and a few large names

53.38% of matched companies with a known size have 1 to 10 employees and 24.04% have 11 to 50. The age profile leans older: 37.94% were founded in the 2010s, but 26.84% before 2000 and 7.14% before 1960. The 84 companies with more than 1,000 staff mostly run Summernote on one service site. Renesas Electronics loads it on its customer hub, en-support.renesas.com. Prudential Vietnam has it on its customer portal, Sacem on Sacem Plus, Zuken on its global support site and Pelni on its careers site. Bank Aljazira is one of the few large companies that load it on a main website.

Sales signal: at a large account, the Summernote owner is whoever runs the support, careers or customer portal. Start with that team, and expect a custom build with a long life.

Portals for patients, students and citizens

Software Development (4.86%) and IT Services (4.8%) top the industry chart, but the rows after them tell you more: Medical Practices (4.7%), Higher Education (3.4%), Hospitals and Health Care (3.35%), Government Administration (2.48%) and Utilities (2.27%). Each of those runs portals where people sign in to file something. Minnesota Power and Snohomish County PUD use the same customer-account portal software, with identical Summernote files. Eight Turkish municipalities in our candidate list run the same municipal portal, called Bridge, all loading Summernote 0.8.12 from cdnjs.

The countries are spread just as widely. The United States leads with 323 matched companies, then Brazil (213), Spain (158), India (152), Italy (100) and France (96). Brazil, Spain, Italy, France and Colombia (25) add up to 592 companies, more than the 487 in the US, UK, Canada (40) and Australia (32) combined, and Turkey's 80 puts it ahead of Germany's 65.

Sales signal: the list is strong in Latin America, southern Europe and Turkey, and in regulated sectors that run self-service portals. Agencies that rebuild public-sector or healthcare portals will find more fit here than SaaS vendors selling to start-ups.

WordPress overlap and leavers

No switching flow passed our tests, so this page has no migration table. The one overlap worth knowing is WordPress. Of the 870 domains we've seen with both, 766 run both today, and WordPress sits on 20.15% of Summernote domains. On those sites Summernote usually arrives inside a plugin or theme: 164 domains load it from WordPress's wp-content folder, 105 of them through that support-ticket plugin. None of the flows out of the 305 domains that dropped Summernote since March 2026 passed our switching tests. We also checked the rich-text rivals. TinyMCE has been seen with Summernote on 124 domains (106 run both today), and Quill and CKEditor on 76 each (71 and 65 today). Moves between them are tiny: since March, two domains that dropped Summernote run Quill and one runs CKEditor, while seven dropped TinyMCE and kept Summernote.

Sales signal: for editor vendors, Summernote leavers are rebuild projects. Reach them through the agency or platform doing the rebuild, not with a feature comparison.

The stack: jQuery, Bootstrap and server-rendered apps

Percentages here are of the 3,791 live Summernote domains we profiled for stack. jQuery runs on 99.89% and Bootstrap on 94.43%, as Summernote requires. Around them sit the usual admin-template plugins: jQuery UI on 43.89%, Select2 on 33.53%, Moment.js on 33.16% and Masonry on 30.81%. On the server side, ASP.NET is on 13.58%, CodeIgniter on 5.57%, Laravel on 5.12% and Livewire on 1.53%. Tailwind CSS turns up on 15.91%, usually beside Bootstrap rather than replacing it. Google Analytics runs on 48.8%.

Sales signal: this is a list of server-rendered PHP and .NET applications with a jQuery front end. Agencies offering front-end modernisation, and .NET or PHP development shops, have the clearest fit.

Versions and upkeep

Summernote's GitHub releases page lists v0.9.0 on 28 September 2024 and v0.9.1 on 9 October 2024, three years after v0.8.20. Sites haven't followed. Of the 1,163 domains whose pages show a version in the file path, 534 run 0.8.18, a May 2020 release, and only 144 run the 0.9 line. 1,075 of the 2,929 domains we scanned load Summernote from a public CDN such as jsDelivr or cdnjs, which makes the version easy to read from outside.

Sales signal: a portal running a 2020 editor on a 2010s jQuery template is a fair opening for a front-end maintenance or accessibility audit. The version number in the script path tells you how far behind it is before the first call.
